Who: The rebellious weyrlings who don't go to Feasts... or who are shy... or just random people who wander into the barracks. XD What: Sitting in the Barracks When: Evening post-Hatching Where: Main Weyrling Barracks.
It was late... and Lialla wasn't looking forward to going to the Feast. She would much rather get settled in in her new barracks, and then go to sleep. Even with her unconventional sleep-schedule, the weyrling was wiped out post-Hatching. The festivities held little for her, although Cryth was bouncing off the walls, utterly elated at the idea of meeting new people and watching them eat food. Lia wasn't too sure what the latter fascination was all about, and she wasn't keen on the idea of finding out. Please oh please, Mine? It will be fun! the hatchling insisted. The green was convinced that she and Hers would have a splendid time, despite all of the negative commenting.
“Cryth, love, I'm not too terribly fond of the people at this Weyr...” she trailed off, and when she opened her mouth to continue, the green cut her off. That's because you haven't met any yet! Except for my new friend, Peth, and His, of course of course, she replied. Please oh please, Mine? Cryth was practically bouncing off of the walls, in her want to go. Lialla huffed, moved her trunk against the wall, and then looked back at her brightly-colored green. “Can't we just stay here?”
In all reality, what she really wanted was an evening alone with her green. An evening to get used to this... enthralling new bond, and come to terms with having Impressed. It was the most amazing experience, the most profound experience. No, Lia hadn't gone into the Hatching expecting, or even deeply desiring to Impress, but she was glad- beyond glad- that Cryth had been there. She would have to later find the Searchrider (what were the words she had used? The shards rider who had played on her sympathies) and thank him. Without him and his manipulation, she wouldn't have her lovely, tiny green.
Alrighty, I guess we can stay here! the green responded, just as cheerfully. As long as we can go to the main barracks, that way I can meet all, all of my clutchsiblings! The repeating-thing was something that Cryth seemed to do often, Lialla noted with a tiny smile. It was infuriating, in a sweet way. “I concede,” she conceded, leading the green out into the main area of the Barracks. Although, truthfully, she wasn't really expecting anyone. Why wouldn't they be at the feast?

K‘vin really did not want to go to the feast. There were going to be lots and lots of people and the evening would be full of awkward conversations at best but most likely K‘vin would have to spend the evening alone in the corner because he would be to shy to start a conversation with anyone. Then don‘t go K‘vinmine. Asileth made it sound so simple... And why not? It wasn‘t as if many people would miss him. And it was not only that the feast itself would be a torture, there was also the fact that so soon after impressing Asileth K‘vin wanted nothing more than to spend time with her in peace and quiet. He wanted to spend every waking moment with her and wasn‘t planning on going to sleep anytime soon. You wouldn‘t mind? Of course I don‘t mind silly Mine. You are much more fun than everyone else. Besides you promised me that I would meet the little one. Oh yes, you‘re right. I‘m certain that you and Toll will love each other.
As if he sensed that he was being talked about, a brown firelizard appeared in the air, chirping curiously. He had been bored out if his mind since His had left to fetch the green bigwing. Toll had dutifully stayed put away from His as His had istructed but now sensed that he was welcome again. And now instead of settling down on his usual spot on His shoulder he approached the bigwing who regarded him curiously.
K‘vin couldn‘t see what they were discussing with pictures but it looked like they accepted each other, Toll at least settled on Asileth after a while and they continued communicating. The new weyrling led his two bonded ones to the main area of the Weyrling barracks, focusing all his attention on the pair before he noticed that they were not the only ones there as he had expected. K‘vin had thought that everyone wanted to be out celebrating but apparently another new greenpair had also decided to skip the festivities.
Asileth saw that there was one of her clutch sisters nearby but she instead decided to continue conversing with Toll, perhaps rudely ignoring the other green. A part of K‘vin wanted to do the same thing as his green but he didn‘t think that he would get away with being so rude. Besides, he actually wanted to get to know the girls that had also impressed greens and there was one of them. He wasn‘t particularly keen on being the first one to speak however. K‘vin ended up settling down near the girl, but not too near, and smiling tentatively. „Hi.“ Perhaps not a very good greeting but he didn‘t want to disturb the girl if she didn‘t want to talk and she could either ignore him or also greet him and maybe talk to him. The ball was in her hands really.

“Sweetheart, may I try something? I hail from a Weyr, originally, and noticed things about dragonriders when I was younger. Instances where they didn't speak to their dragons, but presumably, communicated through their mental link. It's not just one-way,” Lialla went on in the silence of the main barracks, assuming that all the other weyrlings were at the Feast. Sure sure, Minelove, Cryth replied cheerily, waiting on her haunches excitedly for someone else to enter. Unlike Hers, the green had full faith that someone would show up, someone who she could meet and talk to and be friends with, like she was friends with Peth!
Lialla nodded, and was about to start experimenting when she heard someone walk into the Barracks. The girl looked up from her cross-legged position on the floor, to see the face of a fellow weyrling. Although she wasn't entirely sure of his name, she recognized his face from Lessons and the Hatching. Obvious, he had Impressed green, like herself- his green was by his side, apparently conversing with a flitter. “Greetings,” she said quietly. She hadn't come out here to talk to people... although she had agreed to Cryth's plan. And so she would talk. “Congratulations on Impressing. I'm Lialla, and this is Cryth.” The weyrling offered her hand, coming to her knees so that he wouldn't be forced to bend over so as to shake her hand.
Introduced, Cryth swiveled her head to look at her clutchsister, as though waiting for a greeting. That none had come thus-far worried her. Mine, why does my clutchsister Asileth dislike me, why does she dislike me? the hatchling implored, her tone mournful. I don't... don't think I did anything to her or Hers, right Mine? Right? The details of the Hatching were already seriously blended together for both dragon and weyrling, but neither remembered an offense towards Asileth, and it was doubtful that the other green would have, either. So Lialla looked down at her little mindmate and, natural as breathing, replied silently. I can't imagine. She may be shy. Why don't you say hi, first?
Despite Hers being unaware, the green responded excitedly. You did it, Mine, you did it! You did what you were about to try to do! It took a moment, but Lialla caught on, and looked back at K'vin with a rather large smile on her face. Cryth, excited as well, decided to follow up on Lia's advice. Hi, clutchsister, hi, she greeted, hoping that she hadn't done anything offense to her to make someone a non-friend so soon. She didn't want to make any non-friends, after all.

K‘vin took Lialla‘s hand shyly but tried to make the handshake firm so he wouldn‘t look like a wimp in front of the girl that was unfortunately bigger than him. "Thank you, and congratulations to you too. My name is K‘vin and those two over there are Asileth and Toll,“ he nodded his head in the direction of the green and brown. He found it easier to talk to Lialla than many other people he had already met in the Weyr. The fact that they were equals, both weyrling green riders, and the fact that she was a girl made K‘vin more at ease. He didn‘t feel as nervous around girls as he often did around boys. Lialla also seemed to be the calm, easy going type and he liked that about her. But what should he say next? Something nice or clever or funny seemed in order but all K‘vin could do was smile feebly at the girl and hope that she was a talker.
Well her clutchsister was talking to her. That meant she would have to talk as well. It‘s not that Asileth minded terribly, but Cryth just wasn‘t the same as Calzanth. Oh well, it might be nice to make friends. Greetings Cryth. There. She had greeted Cryth so hopefully the other green wouldn‘t be offended but Asileth had no big desire to go into a long winded conversation with Cryth however she would talk more to Cryth if she was talked to. In the meantime she turned back to Toll who had been waiting impatiently for her to pay attention again to his pictures of Weyr inhabitants. He showed her pictures of a green that while the same color as Asileth, wasn‘t a bigwing. He tried to tell her trough happy thoughts that he liked the little green but he liked her, the bigwing, also. Asileth sent a happy emotion back to tell him that she liked him also. Not as much as she liked Hers, but she still liked Toll.

After shaking his hand, Lialla sat back down on her feet. She liked this boy- he was quiet, like herself, which was a good break after hyperactive, imaginative Che-- oh, or C'ko. It was odd to think of the young boy, who she deemed 'friend', as a dragonrider. But, in spite of (and perhaps because of) his overactive imagination, she felt that he would make a good rider. If he survived weyrlinghood. Anyways. This new boy, K'vin he said... Lia liked him, and his willingness to not chatter incessantly. It was nice to be able to hear herself think. Her smile grew to a proportion so that maybe, now, her companion could see it; she didn't even have to force it as she looked up at him. "How long have you been at the Weyr?" she inquired. Maybe, despite his initial shyness, he could hold conversation, as well. That would be absolutely delightful.
It would be nice to have a fellow weyrling who could converse with her easily. Since coming here, Lialla had wished for a good conversation. C'ko was a sweet kid, and she liked him a lot. Zan, whom she had met doing chores, was nice as well. But neither were spectacular conversationalists. Neither, it seemed, was K'vin, but that could just be a barrier of unfamiliarity. Either way, it'd still be nice to be comfortable with another of her fellow weyrlings. That way she wouldn't be completely estranged here at Cerulean.
It delighted Cryth beyond words when Asileth responded to her. So...so you do not hate me for something I've done?! she asked her clutchsister excitedly, not caring that the other green wasn't giving her her full attention. She was just happy that she had yet to make, as she had found, any enemies. That would be sad. Mine Mine!! ClutchsisterAsileth doesn't hate me! the vibrant green told Hers excitedly. Of course she doesn't, love. Who could hate you?

„I‘ve been here for three months.“ Wow. He hadn‘t realized it had been so long. It seemed like it was only yesterday that he arrived in Cerulean on Jaxith‘s back. It had been hard at first to settle in. Weyrlife was so different from Hold and Craft life, but eventually K‘vin had grown used to everything. He could roam the Weyr with familiarity and was even friendly with a few people. And now that he had Asileth, his life seemed to be complete. „And you? How long have you been here? Are you perhaps weyrbred?“
Lialla was comfortable to talk to, K‘vin decided. She was like K‘ron. She could hold a conversation and was nice and she was calm. Like K‘ron. K‘vin often didn‘t know how to act around people who were always excitable and all over the place, they made him nervous. But Lialla, she managed to make K‘vin at ease. Plus she was a woman.
All right. So her clutchsister wanted to talk. Then Asileth would also talk. Maybe it would be nice to have a clutchsister for a friend. No I don‘t hate you clutchsisterCryth. Mine doesn‘t hate Yours so I don‘t hate Yours or you. [/i] Asileth didn‘t want to make Cryth feel bad, so even though she‘d much rather focus her attention on Toll, she reluctantly gave Cryth her full attention.

Drawing her knees up beside her, as opposed to in front of her, Lialla nodded slowly. Three months seemed like a long time... but to be honest, she wasn't entirely sure of her own arrival date. "I got here the day previous to the Touching," she told him. She hadn't been keeping track too strictly, but it couldn't have been longer than a few sevendays. Interesting- it felt both shorter and longer than that. But, then again, it felt like she'd known and had Cryth all of her life, which could be playing a factor. Reaching out to stroke the green's tail was instinctive as soon as her thoughts roamed to the vibrant creature.
Her delay to answer the second question was notable, but (hopefully) not so drastic that it seemed as though she had forgotten about K'vin. Finally, Lialla looked back up, blushed slightly at her distraction, and then answered. "I was originally weyrbred, from Ista, but I spent a good deal of time at the Star CraftHall at Honshu." The CraftHall would be missed, greatly, but she would give it up again, a million times, for Cryth. And she had pushed aside her longing for her family and Ista a long time ago.
Cryth was absolutely delighted that her clutchsister didn't hate her; oh, attention! Her tail danced excitedly behind her, pausing only when Hers petted it for a moment. I am veryvery glad! I was afraid that I did something wrong, so I'm veryvery glad to find out that I didn't! Each sentence was punctuated by a wave of her tail in the air, and then brought down to the floor with a light tap. I don't hate you or Yours, either, she added, as if to reassured Asileth.

He wasn‘t really sure if Lialla wanted him here. She had after all not gone to the feast, and maybe that was a sign that she wanted to be alone. And she even seemed to forget him for a little while. K‘vin bit his lip and peered at Lialla nervously. „Lialla? Do you perhaps want to be by yourself. I mean with Cryth of course. You‘ll never be really by yourself when you‘re bonded to a dragon. Not that anyone in their right mind would be bothered by having a dragon in their minds all the time...“ K‘vin laughed nervously and looked away, a blush adorning his tanned cheeks. Just when he thought he had reached comfort level with Lialla, she didn‘t seem to want him here and he made a fool out of himself by rambling on and on.
It was just as good that Cryth didn‘t hate Hers. Asileth growled a little at the thought before calming down by gazing lovingly at Hers. Wasn‘t he just perfect? Toll realized that Asileth was thinking warmly about His and crooned his agreement. Asileth was a little worried though that Theirs was much smaller than the other twolegs around the Weyr. But he could probably beat anyone in a fight. He just didn‘t look like it. Asileth decided, just in case, to keep an extra close eye on Hers.

Oh! Lialla had hoped that he wouldn't assume as such by her distractedness, and the blush on her cheeks grew brighter as he began to rumble. Sure, she hadn't been crazy about being around so many people after such a life-changing event, but she wasn't unhappy with K'vin's company. His conversation was actually quite refreshing. But maybe this was his way to get her to leave, because he wanted to be alone. That would be a little disappointing, but of course she understood. Cheeks red, Lia waited for him to finish speaking. "Oh, no," she reassured quickly, "I don't mind your company in the slightest. However..." her voice faded off, and she fought to keep the worry from it. It wouldn't be terrible, being alone, as she wouldn't be alone. As he had said. But she did like the idea that maybe she could make another friend here. "I'd completely understand if you did. You did just bond to Asileth, and if you, she, and Toll want to be alone, I can go back to my barracks."
She was actually quite impressed that she had managed to remember Toll's name. Hm. Or, at least, she hoped that was his name.
Cryth, too, was worried about her standing with someone she thought may become her friend. Her clutchsister Asileth hadn't responded to her... or, she had, but by growling. Maybe she did hate her! That'd be terrible! Cryth didn't want to be hated! Alarmed, the green reached out to her clutchsister. Are you okay, Sister Asileth? I didn't mean to make you angry... I'm sorry... do you still like me?

K‘vin‘s boyish face lit up with a bright smile. She really did want him here, something that made K‘vin very happy. So far the only person that he knew well was K‘ron. There were L‘mar, H‘seo and S‘lain too, but he hardly knew them that well. Besides they were all men and it didn‘t hurt to know a woman as well.
He furrowed his brow in confusion. Why would he want to leave? He had been the one to join her and Cryth, not the other way around. Perhaps he hadn‘t talked enough. Perhaps she thought that he didn‘t like her. He knew that people sometimes mistook his initial quiet demeanor as a sign of dislike.
„No, not at all! Please stay.“ K‘vin smiled tentatively at Lialla. „I don‘t know many people here and I only know one other greenrider, L‘mar, but he‘s a senior weyrling.“ L‘mar... He was a male greenrider. Surely he would understand K‘vin‘s fears about mating flights. Maybe it would help to talk to him. But K‘vin quickly decided not to try male greenrider bonding with L‘mar when a mischievously smiling L‘mar invaded his memory. For some reason he didn‘t think that L‘mar would understand him. Maybe Lialla might, granted she was a girl so she didn‘t have it nearly as bad as K‘vin, but she was still better than no one. But K‘vin also had it extra bad, considering he was a virgin. Probably the only weyrling that was one, well, hopefully with the exception of C‘ko.
„Lialla? I... Um... Do you... Ehrm, never mind.“ K‘vin felt like his face was on fire and he was sure it looked like it too. It was one thing to be comfortable with Lialla, another thing to be comfortable enough with someone to discuss what happened in greenflights. Intercourse, intercourse, intercourse. Maybe thinking the word would make him more comfortable with it. Intercourse, intercourse, homosexual intercourse. K‘vin squeaked and he turned even redder than before. Nope, it didn‘t help.
Mine? What is homosexual intercourse? Asileth looked at her bonded in confusion but got no answer. Hers seemed preoccupied with something on the floor. Asileth was also busy conversing with her clutchsister. It seemed that she had offended her again. Asileth really, really didn‘t mean to. Nononono clutchsister Cryth. I was just angry at the thought of someone hating K‘vinmine. I still like you

Thankfully, he denied the need to be alone, as well. Lialla returned the smile, just as tentatively, as she wasn't entirely sure where she stood with her fellow green weyrling. But he wanted to stay, which was progress, to be sure. “Well, you have me beat there, as I don't know any other greenriders. Maybe you could introduce me to this L'mar fellow, sometime...” her voice trailed off. L'mar. She had just been thinking about her brother earlier, Liamar, who had this dream of becoming a dragonrider. His name would be L'mar, then. But his dream had also been to ride bronze, not green. And anyways, the odds were terribly low that it could actually be her brother, Liam.
Eyebrows high on her face, she turned back to K'vin to see his face bright red. With his stammering question, Lia pushed the idea about this green weyrling to the back of her mind for the moment. “No, no, what is it?” she inquired. He squeaked, obviously disturbed by his thoughts, and she reached out a hand to touch him briefly. “You can tell me, or ask me,” she assured him, smiling (what she hoped was) a gentle, encouraging smile. As mentioned, quite frequently, she wasn't very schooled on her social expressions.
And there was still that matter that wouldn't shut up, in the back of her mind. Biting her lip, Lialla decided not to say anything about it until K'vin spilled his own question. It wasn't likely, anyways, so maybe it would go away if she waited long enough. That'd be fantastic, if she could say so herself.
Cryth, although confused at Hers' thoughts about a brother, was delighted that her clutchsister still didn't hate her. That was good! Goodgood, I'm glad that you still like me, she said happily. I'm even gladder that no one hates Mine. I don't think. I hope no one hates Yours! Well-wishes, and all. She did very much-so like her clutchsister.

Nononono, this was much to embarrassing to tell someone he just met. Grateful that he hadn‘t given in to his moment of insanity and told her about his problems, he just shook his head. „I, uhm, I‘d rather not say anymore.“ Smooth. Real smooth, K‘vin. He really, really hoped that Lialla would just let this go. He‘d have to make her think about something else. His mind raced as he rubbed his hands together nervously, at the same time biting his lower lip. Just when he needed him the most, his mind failed him and K‘vin was forced to simply revisit the previous topic of greenriders.
„L‘mar? I don‘t really know him that well. I had kitchen duty a while ago with him.“ The relief at finding something to say made K‘vin rush the sentence out but then he grew silent. All right, what more could he say about L‘mar? „He has a firelizard.“ K‘vin grimaced, that sentence had made no sense whatsoever, why should Lialla care that a stranger had a firelizard. But K‘vin had a topic now and he was going to stick with it. He just had to find more things to say... Oh! L‘mar had said that he was originally from Ista. It made sense to tell Lialla about that. „Actually, I think he‘s from Ista like you.“ K‘vin relaxed a little now. Hopefully this was enough to make her forget that topic.
No one hates Mine. Asileth told Cryth firmly. After all, why would someone hate someone as wonderful as Hers? He had no flaws, therefore no one could dislike him. Oh, Asileth loved Hers so veryverymuch. I don‘t think anyone hates Yours either. Asileth was starting to like Cryth. She was nice and she didn‘t want anyone to hate Asileth‘s either. Maybe she could even be friends with her clutchsister. At least if Hers was going to talk to Cryth‘s more, Asileth could also talk to Cryth more.

Letting it go was the more sociable option, the more caring option, the more friendly option. If Lialla was more socially-attuned, then she probably would have seen that K'vin was unwilling to talk about it now. That maybe later, if she proved herself to be a devoted friend, that he would tell her- but right now he wasn't comfortable. She really should learn to respect people's boundaries... but hey, she could claim innocent by way of social ineptness. "Really? Why not? I can't promise to help, but I'm a fellow green weyrling, and perhaps we could become friends, since we're going to deal with the same situations, generally." She smiled gently at K'vin, a little unsure at this situation.
Then, he began rushing on with the topic that with niggling at the back of her mind. Well, she had been planning on asking, anyways (after all, the whole 'ignoring' thing never seemed to work quite right). "Ista? Really?" And his name was L'mar... and he had a firelizard. That last piece of information had nothing to do with what she was trying to piece together, but it was something. "Shells," Lialla muttered quietly. She didn't often curse, but... "I had a brother, who's name was Liamar. We were... quite close," she confided softly. "His dream was to become a rider, but last I heard, he was still at Ista. But still, I can't imagine the odds- if he's from Ista, that is."
Cryth was very absorbed in her conversation, if you could call it that, with Asileth, and was therefore almost-completely shutting out Hers' emotional epiphanies. I don'tdon't see why anyone would hate Mine, or Yours. LiaMine is tootoo nice to hate!! she affirmed earnestly. She loved Hers, and therefore couldn't imagine anyone else disliking her. Just like she liked her clutchsister, and couldn't see why anyone else wouldn't. Everyone was just so greatgreat!!

As it turned out K‘vin had accidentally stumbled upon a very interesting topic, a topic that would surely keep Lialla’s mind occupied even if she had earlier refused to let go of K’vin’s problem. What she said made sense, she was a fellow green weyrling and K’vin felt like he could trust her completely already. He had almost told Lialla about his fears but the moment passed before he could say anything, as she started talking about a brother. K’vin decided that his problem could wait and listened intently to Lialla.
Wouldn’t it be just wonderful if L’mar happened to be Liamar, Lialla’s brother? Imagine the luck if it were true. “I’m sure he said that he was from Ista. He came here from Silver Cove but I’m positive he said that he was from Ista originally.” K’vin really hoped that he wasn’t giving Lialla false hope. To be honest, he was having a hard time believing that L’mar could be related to Lialla. They were so different, Lialla was calm and quiet and L’mar was… Well not calm and quiet. “You should look for him, to see if he is your Liamar. I’m sure he won’t be hard to find, he doesn’t seem to be the type to disappear in the background.”
Cryth seemd to understand Asileth completely. That pleased the green dragon. I don’t understand why anyone would hate anyone. I love everyone. I love K’vinmine the most. Then I love the smallwing nextmost. And then I love maybe you and Calzanth the nextnextmost. And then I love everybody else the nextnextnextmost.
Toll was bored. His bigwing was ignoring him and talking to the other green bigwing. That was no fun. He flew up away from Asileth to go to his twolegbonded. He settled in His’ lap and nudged His to get him to give Toll attention. His only absently stroked Toll’s back and Toll huffed. No one was paying attention to him! Before long however, histwolegbonded’s stroking lulled the brown flit to sleep.

So he was from Ista. K'vin seemed quite positive that that is what this 'L'mar' had said, and Lialla doubted that the green weyrling (either of them, that is) would lie about it. But that didn't mean that he was her Liam, her older brother. And there was next to no way to tell, aside from confronting this boy at a later date and flat-out asking if he was her long-lost brother. Shells, it sounded like some histrionically-inclined harper's ballad, and she was probably overreacting. There were sure to have been plenty of Istans whose names could have shortened to L'mar. There had been... Alimaro, for one. He had been an older harper, but still.
K'vin's last words, however, drew a grin from Lia. "Is this L'mar a little- loud? Um... overly-rambunctious, mischief-making fiend? Because if he isn't, then I know he's not my brother." Come to think of it, she wasn't entirely sure that this boy would be her Liam. She hadn't heard of anyone walking around, cursing his name. C'ko's, sure, but not L'mar's. Shaking her head, Lialla tried to decide if she wanted it to be her brother or not. One one hand: it could be her brother, whom she loved, and missed, and hadn't seen for Turns. On the other... it could be her brother, who caused trouble everywhere he went, never stopped talking, and whom she still doubted was actually related to her. The fact that they shared the same nose notwithstanding.
Oh. And she hadn't forgotten that he wouldn't tell her something. She just wasn't mentioning it right at this moment. But it would come.
This, Cryth determined, was why she made friends. So that they would share her views completely on loving everyone and being nice, and so that they would give her new listing techniques! She loveloved being nextnextmost loved by her clutchsister, and her tapping tail indicated her pleasure. I don't love everyone, but I haven't met anyone except you and Peth and Yours. I'm sure if I met everyone I would love everyone! Oh, and I met Polo too. I think. She paused for a moment, still trying to figure out the flitter that she couldn't see. Hm. Oh well! I love Mine the mostest, and then I love Peth almostmostest, because he's my best friend. And then I love you the almostmostestmostest... or is it the almostalmostmostest? Despite being a little confused by her own variation of the listing technique, Cryth was very positive that she got her point across.
