Character:
Name: Lialla
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Not really sure...
Occupation: Sr.Apr. Astronomer/Weyrling
Description: Dark auburn hair is often more in the way of chocolate with red highlights streaking through it in the sun. It is cut short… about right above Lialla’s shoulders. It’s mostly straight, but she doesn’t do anything to it at all, besides brushing it, and parting it over to the side. It curls at the ends, out or in depending on the day, and how she slept on it the night before. It’s actually very pretty when she decides to style it or something, for a Gather, feast, or the like, or even just when she stands in the sun the correct way, it brings the highlights out.
Overall, though, her appearance is quite plain. Lia’s naturally pale; she’s never spent much time in the sun, but whenever she does, her skin just develops an unattractive pinkish-tint that clashes terribly with her hair, and her lighter-auburn eyebrows. They arch nicely above her dark brown eyes. Oddly enough, she doesn’t enjoy any of her features other than her eyebrows. She likes her eyebrows the best of all of her other features. Other than her hair and eye color, and her complexion, Lialla’s face is quite similar to that of her brother’s. She has the same salmon lips, similarly-shaped eyes, and the same pointed nose.
Lialla stands at about 5’6”, her slender form holding very minimal curves. In fact, she’s very bony, though she doesn’t have a bad figure. She has narrow hips and a slim waist, but her form has little fat, which makes her seem fragile and willowy. When she hides herself in her regular clothing, it makes her seem even more slim and breakable.
The clothing she wears are often overlarge and more… eccentric. It’s usually quite colorful, with bright blues and green and reds and yellows, unless she’s in uniform. A lot of times, though, Lialla is in uniform, so many people don’t actually see her more interesting wardrobe. Her uniform is much more stable (as indicated by the title uniform), and upon realization that she doesn't really want to draw attention to herself, she'll probably be wearing it much more often.
Personality: Lialla is ferociously intelligent. She has a long memory and an amount of knowledge paralleled by only a small portion of the population. Often, she speaks in circles around others, using words and grammatical structure that aren’t often practiced by regular people. Her social skills have grown better as she is exposed to more people, but sometimes it slips and she talks in confusing turns of phrase that many wouldn’t recognize.
Due to this, she isn’t very… prepossessing. Maybe if she tried: bothered to do her hair up, and focused on her language talents, she could be more charismatic, but Lialla doesn’t really worry about much of this. Instead, she has a very small circle of friends. Many people don’t find her very friend-worthy, simply because she doesn’t act… ‘normal’, really. Around her small circle of friends, though, she does relax quite a bit, and as long as they don’t flinch when she speaks in riddles, everything turns out pretty well.
In general, though, Lia is quite a happy person. She rarely has negative thoughts, or anything of the sort. She’s big on the helping-people streak; she went to the Healer Hall first, in fact, but her drive for knowledge moved her more in the way of the Star Craft. Lialla loves, adores, her work and her learnings. There’s always more to learn about everything, and this is certainly true about astronomy.
There is, however, a very fierce temper on Lialla- even as furious as her intelligence. She doesn’t appreciate mockery, or cruelty, or anything delivered by the mean boys and girls who dislike dealing with unsociable smart girls. She is in no way naïve, as some people are, to when they are being mocked. And, most definitely, Lia’s not shy in her dealings with these cruel people. The young astronomer also isn’t quiet about the tongue-lashing which she delivers.
History: Lia was a simple girl, Searched from the dolphineer hall. She Impressed a green, Oireth, her first time Standing, and it changed her life completely. She adapted to Weyr life easily, but always felt the pang that she probably would never meet ‘the one’ that she and her girl friends had dreamed about at the Hall, and would never have her perfect little family. Around the time that she was finally dealing with this disappointment, thanks to Oireth’s frequent Flights and all of her friends, she met brown rider R’mor.
He had been the middle child of the Lord Holder at the hold that looked to their Weyr, and had grown up like Lia: with the expectations to meet a nice girl, Join with her, and create a family. After being Searched, he, too, had to give up his hopes for the future he had grown up imagining… although, admittedly, upon Impressing his brown Fadikth, he didn’t mind nearly as he had thought, what with all he was gaining. But then he met green rider Lia.
It was after a Flight that the pair delightedly fell in love, and became weyrmates. Soon after, Lia went on maternity leave, and then Liamar was born. R’mor and Lia loved their little boy desperately, and soon after, Lia decided she wanted to give Liamar another sibling… practically unheard of within the Weyr. Due to their devotion to the Weyr, they waited a few turns, to allow for some time between pregnancies. A few turns later, however, when Liam was around 5, Lia became pregnant again, giving birth to a little girl whom they named Lialla.
Liamar and Lialla were the best of siblings, even at the ages of 3 and 2. They made up a perfect little hold family, except they were in the Weyr, and their parents were dragon riders. But other than Lia and R’mor’s devotion to their dragons, their wings, their Weyr, it might as well have been like being your regular Hold family. Both siblings had big plans… big plans, with Liamar wanting to become a dragon rider, and Lialla wanting to go to Healer Hall.
Lialla got her wish, and she departed shyly from her family. Moving away from home changed her. She had always been smart, but now, she also stayed fairly detached from everyone. Her intelligence made everyone around her stay detached from her, as well, so she didn’t make many friends at Healer Hall. Certainly, she enjoyed her apprenticeship, but she didn’t really excel as much as she was expecting to. And then, Deroinn came along.
He was just a Junior Journeyman Astronomer, who had developed a frightening cough. Near the Hall already, due to his travels, Deroinn asked for the Healers’ help. Lialla was assigned to shadow the healer that volunteered to help him, and she got the chance to talk to him quite a lot more than she was expecting to. Deroinn talked nonstop about his studies, about the Star Craft, and Lia emulated him beyond belief. It was at the point that, when he left, his cough gone, she left the Healer Hall not long after.
At the Star CraftHall, Lialla truly excelled. She sped through her apprenticeship, and even though she never saw Deroinn again, the girl never once regretted her decision to change professions. After all, it was in her astronomer apprenticeship that she actually made friends. Most of the people here were close to her level of intelligence, and her best friend became the boy who was… leagues above her in smarts. At the Star CraftHall, Lia felt that she actually fit in.
She had just been given her Senior Apprentice knots when Lialla and a few of her friends experimented with alcohol and the like. It was fun, she supposed, but not something she would repeat frequently afterwards. She also took a roll in the furs once-- just once, mind, as it was terrible for her.
One day, the word of the tragedy on Silver Cove Weyr reached her ears, and Lialla knew that she could do nothing to help the people there. Maybe if she had finished out her Healer apprenticeship… maybe then she could have helped. But she didn’t. For a day or two, Lialla irrationally blamed herself; then she straightened up and realized that she probably couldn’t have done anything there, either. So she put it behind her.
Having been told before that she could Impress, that she should attempt to Impress, Lialla had always refused the WeyrHold on the grounds of wishing to continue her Craft as far as she could, sans distractions. One day, when a blue dragonrider came to Honshu to visit a familial relation, he told her that she could Impress on their Sands, as well. At first she refused, hoping that she would be earning her Junior Journeyman's knots in a few turns. But the rider continued trying to convince her, and he said the magic sentence, the one that Honshu couldn't use: that she was being Searched to the Weyr that had been created from the wreckage of the weyrfolk from Silver Cove. Her sympathy played upon, Lia decided to go.
Fun Facts: Well she's pretty much nocturnal, due to the whole staring-at-stars thing... so she'll probably awake when all of her roommates are asleep. ^^ OH and she and L'mar are siblings, but they don't know each others existence as of yet and they probably won't interact much. I don't like RPing with myself...........
Bonded Critter:
Type: Dragon
Name: Cryth
Color: Green (0F4D92)
Age: 10 months
Description: (8FFF9C)
If its egg was anything to judge by, this very small green is slightly less colorful but no less eye-catching for it. Almost startlingly light in hue, the mint green of her hide darkens to jade along her extremities, covering her head entirely in the darker but more brilliant shade. Her body is very small, and she will likely grow to be one of the smallest dragons in the Weyr. Despite this, her limbs are all proportionate, if even a little more muscled than is typical. Her tail is slightly shortened, but the very end is tipped in jade, and she will use it to catch the attention of someone with a flick or a soft tap.
Because of her size, and in spite of it, her Flights will be something to remember. Her agility is fairly unmatched due to her smaller wingspan, and she can practically turn on a Mark with much less bulk than many of her chasers. She'll leave them struggling in the dust to keep up with her fluid, concise turns. She suffers a loss in endurance, however, and will likely be one of the first to trade out when a Fall hits. It won't take her long to recover though, as she has a boundless well of energy and enjoys using it.
Personality: Energetic. Flighty. Spastic. These are all accurate descriptions of Cryth. She is a hyperactive ball of wound up energy just waiting to shower affection on someone. Luckily for most, her bonded gets the dubious joy of handling all her love and attention. This green craves movement, and standing still in one place for too long will have her twitching some body part as an expression of her absolute -need- to be moving. She'll be a handful for the Weyrling Master to teach, but she also wants to make a good impression so she will try, only to tap that jade tipped tail of hers over and over again against the floor, the chair leg, her bonded's leg, anything. Patience is a virtue with this one, but she's too good-natured for anyone to be mad at.
She loves making people happy or making them laugh. If a well timed tumble in the dirt will have someone feeling better, she'll do it. To this point, she's very clever as catching people off guard to gain a chuckle or a smile from them, and she's also able to read humans very well. She'll often know when someone's depressed or sad simply by looking at them. The most vulnerable person to this is her bonded, and she will stop at no ends to make her happy again. Especially sensitive to the needs of Hers, Cryth's emotions will sometimes follow the track of her bonded's emotions, but she's too lighthearted to let her bonded's emotions make her down for any length of time.
Fun Facts:
Craftskills:
Craft: Astronomy/StarCraft
Level of Proficiency: Senior Apprentice
Specialty: She's pretty much awesome at all of the knowledge-based things: the straight information.
Weakness: She's not good thinking on her feet most of the time, so in an actual situation with something that astronomers would be needed for (like, you know, an asteroid or something) she'd probably be useless.
