Character:
Name: Valee
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Weaver/Candidate
Description: Valee could be called...well...round. Starting at the top and going to the bottom there are a lot of curves and circular shapes. Not too many sharp angles in the girl at all. Maybe once she's dressed, but still, not many.
Her hair, a dark ebony, falls past her shoulders in thick ringlets. It tends to frizz near the top because of the humid climate, but she never seems too concerned as her slightly longer hair takes care of weighing down most of the frizz. At a younger age, her hair grew down to her butt. She found a need to cut it and keep it shorter after she kept sitting on it and occasionally picking it up in her weaving. The color, while dark, contains a few natural highlights of a dark brown. It looks natural and gives it nice dimension though.
Her face, a feminine round shape, isn't what most would call "fat". Her cheeks are only slightly pinchable. She just lacks a prominent jawline or strong cheekbones. It's not necessarily an unattractive look. Just a little young. Her eyes, a dark amber color, are also large and round, rimmed with thick eye lashes. They are nice windows into her feelings. They are usually seen with a dreamy look about them.
Her body shape is also not exactly "fat". She's certainly not a stick. As a chubby little girl, Valee had hit puberty and her fat had distributed evenly about her. She had a chest and a but, that was certain, but they looked very proportionate to her body. Her stomach isn't flat. It simply has a little poochy belly that could be compared to the depictions of the Terran Greek goddesses if they had ever been seen by anyone on Pern.
Though growing during puberty had helped Valee get a more desirable shape than her pudgy childhood form, she is still not very tall. She hits just about 5'5". Her skin is slightly darker thanks to the Southern sunshine. She enjoys spending time outside after all, and Rukbat had lovingly touched her skin and developed it into the soft tan it constantly is today.
Personality: Despite her almost child-like appearance, Valee is very mature. She doesn't like to play and mess around when there's work to be done. There was always plenty of time for that later. That was how she had always lived. She finished her work, prizing correctness over quickness, before going out to play. If you did it too quickly, after all, you had to go back and do it again.
With this belief in mind, Valee was lucky to be gifted with extreme patience. She could move very slowly to accurately get a difficult stitch. She doesn't like to go back and do things over after all. She is a do-it-once type of girl rather than a perfectionist. But, she does admit, she can't stand shoddy work. Her parents simply wouldn't allow that.
With people, she has slightly less patience. It's almost as if all her patience was run thin on her craft. She can be really friendly but if she finds a person who grates her nerves- whether it's a lazy slacker or just someone who boasts too much- she can snap easily. She tries not to hold grudges for too long but has found herself still getting a little too easily upset with repeat offenders.
She does have a good variety of friends, though. They are the slightly more mature group but they still have a good time, playing games outside, swimming, enjoying normal activities young adults enjoy.
IN her downtime, and while she's away from friends, Valee tends to daydream. Her daydreams are the one place she doesn't have to worry about getting her stitches right. But weaving is one thing she doesn't dream about. Instead, a lot of her dreams revolve around flying. Ever since she saw her first dragon, she's secretly desired one. This desire to reach the sky can be seen often in her eyes, even when she's being serious.
History: Weavers Verim and Lela lived a very loving, but rigorous life. Lela was a born perfectionist. When she found out she was pregnant, she studied and prepared, wanting the perfect pregnancy. As Valee was born, Lela had to admit that she was enamored with the baby.
The couple raised the girl as best as they can. They saw that she started weaving as soon as possible. They taught her that if you didn't do it right, do it again. And again and again. At a young age. Valee had already learned that her parents would not let her slack off. When she entered apprenticeship, she was always the slowest worker, but the one who turned out some of the best work for the younger apprentices.
Her life was relatively normal. She spent her days weaving, getting better and only slightly faster. She made plenty of friends and some enemies (they were immature anyways). But she always contained a secret wish. In Southern Boll, there wasn't a Weyr too close by, but occasionally, they'd get dragon riders into the Hold. Valee was amazed by them. Everytime one was rumored to have come by, she would actually try and finish her work a little more quickly to go look at it. One day, she wished she could at least ride on one, at least once.
Her wish was to eventually come true. A Search Dragon from Silver Cove Weyr had dropped by in search of Candidates for an upcoming Hatching. As per usual, she had rushed her work. This time, a little more than usual. Her mother would be upset if she saw. Valee was seventeen turns, almost old enough to walk the tables. She shouldn't be rushing work to see a dragon. Another would come another time.
However, this time was her time. The blue Ropeteth saw potential in the girl and brought her to Stand for the Hatching. He soon grew ill and died like many of the others. Then, the Queen and her rider died, taking out many of the eggs with her. Valee's heart sunk. What if one of those eggs were hers? Despite this tragedy, she went to the new Weyr, hoping she might impress one of the remaining eggs. She did not.
She watched as the dragonpairs walked off the Sands happily, fighting tears. She wanted this to be right the first time, like she was used to. Did this mean that she should go back? She thought long and hard and eventually decided to stay, promises of more eggs to come ringing in her ears.
Fun Facts: Valee has a great ability to stand still for a long time. It comes from slowly getting her stitches exactly right. She also loves lying on her back and staring up at the sky.
Bonded Critters:
Type: Fire-Lizard
Name: Yarn
Color: Blue
Age: Newly Hatched (First Month, Turn 8 of Tenth Pass) (Mid-Winter)
Description: A little on the squat side, this fire-lizard is only a smidge under average size for his color. His wings are currently a little small, but they’ll eventually hit a spurt and grow to being long enough to sustain him on very long glides. His hide is a pale, pastel baby blue all over, lightening to almost-white along his headknobs, backridges, and wingtips. There are also some wispy almost-white striations running up his limbs and tail. His wing-sails are an even lighter blue than most of his hide, but still noticeably blue.
He’ll probably always be a bit round and squat, as he’s not a very energetic fire-lizard. He will of course have his moments, but he is generally more prone to sitting around daydreaming or sunning on his back to watch the clouds. Even once his wings grow out, he will prefer to pop out of between and glide around than flap his way anywhere. His movements are almost always slow – though not overly so – as if he doesn’t really see any reason to rush. His motions are rather laconic, and will generally only be made if he has a specific reason to move; his only pointless motions will be the times he glides around daydreaming. He will, however, perk up for food and be a bit more sprightly when he thinks he’s going to be fed.
Personality:Much like his coloring would suggest, this fire-lizard tends to have his head in the clouds. He’s somewhat “not all there” at times, and will often be seen dreamily staring off into space. His slow movements and dreamy expression will make him seem consistently sleepy, but his mind is usually just elsewhere. If she tries, his bonded will usually be able to peek in on his daydreams, which can range between serene and utterly silly. Favorite pastimes for this flit will be cloud-watching and daydreaming as he suns, followed very closely by eating and eventually gliding.
He’s actually rather intelligent for his color, but this is tempered by the fact that he has a randomly bad memory. He will understand most tasks and orders given to him, but he’s not entirely reliable as he might forget what he was doing and drift off in a daydream instead. Trusting him with a letter or object is iffy, as he might accidentally leave it somewhere and forget where that was. He will remember when he’s told not to touch something, and will steer clear of it in the future. His memory for other people than his bonded is hit or miss, and it’s possible he might have forgotten someone today but will remember them tomorrow. He will know his broodparents and clutchsiblings instinctively, but his memory for other fire-lizards is just as bad.
There isn’t a mean bone in this fire-lizard’s body. He’s very trusting, and will decide he loves most beings that don’t try to hurt him or His. He’s not an active snuggler, but he does like to curl up on or with anyone who wishes to cuddle up with him. If someone needs a hug and this flit is nearby, he is surprisingly perceptive to such emotions and without further ado will come over curl up on that person’s shoulder to provide said hug – often sharing a happy thought as well. If anything bonded to that person gets jealous, he rather obliviously will go and cuddle that creature as well for he has a hard time comprehending jealousy. He loves to share and will have little issue if his bonded has any other bondeds, mates, or children. In fact, he will just see them as more of his ‘fair’ and shower love on them as well.
He’s not exactly a coward, but he is rather easily startled. Coupled with the fact that he’s not the most observant of beings, it’s rather easy to sneak up on him – by accident or for a lark. When startled, he will squawk and flail about in a flurry, doing his best to get away from whatever it was. He will often skitter away or cling to his bonded after that, wide-eyed and freaked out for a few minutes until he is convinced that it’s okay. …Or he forgets, whichever happens first. His one real fear is of thunderstorms, and he is a very big baby when it comes to them, whining and refusing to separate from His for any reason. His general lack of observational skills coupled with his tendency toward zoning out will make it rather common for him to run into things. His pudgier body protects him from most harm, and he will usually just hover there with a chirp of confusion until he works through what happened. This gentle, lovey-dovey boy has little ability to hold his own in a squabble, and will usually run away or retreat to clinging to his bonded if another being tries to start one (often snuggling up around her neck or hiding under her hair).
When it comes to Flights, he will rarely try his luck; if he does, it will be out of curiosity. He’s not very showy or athletic, so his chances of winning are low. If he does manage to win, he’ll probably be insufferably happy for about a week before he forgets why. He has very little paternal instinct, but his love knows few bounds and he will happily play with any little ones whether they’re his or not (or even if they’re not fire-lizards at all).

Strength: ? (? + 10)

Description: The first thing one will notice about this green is the startling length of her wings. At first, her weak muscles will find it quite difficult to even lift them off the ground, instead being forced to drag them along like so much dead weight. Eventually her muscles will toughen enough that she will be able to hold them properly aloft, but in her down time it might not be uncommon to see her letting them gently rest against the floor. Relaxed moments might even find her letting them sprawl across her ledge to dangle over the sides. This darling green is a bit on the large side for her sisters, easily standing the height of some of the smaller blues in the clutch. As she grows, she will maintain quite a bit of her size, and her enormous wings will be a blessing to give her back a fair amount of that agility that greens are known for.
While not exactly bulky or in any way overweight, this green will always have a rounder quality to her frame than some of the other females. Her size and shaping won’t bother her in the slightest, in fact giving her the advantage of being quite comfortable to cuddle with - reminiscent of the chubby, bubbly cook who always give the best hugs. Despite her rotund nature, there is a delicate quality to this dragon, helped along by the shy way that she moves.
Much darker in color than her other sisters, her green hide is lightened here and there by a soft swirl of an almost-tan color. A few russet freckles dot along her shoulders and wings, as well as running up the angles of her face to clutter along her headknobs.
Personality: Iveth is, quite possibly, one of the sweetest dragons one will ever meet. Though quite shy and rather quiet, she will always have a pleasant word or gesture for any who bespeak her. The eternal and unshakable optimist, she has a firm belief that everything will be okay, even if it isn’t right at that moment. Her kindness is, in part, an attempt to bring about that better world that exists in her mind’s eye, feeling that if it should start anywhere then it might as well start with her.
A staunch believer that everyone is essentially good at heart, she can be a bit naive when it comes to the world. Thankfully, this doesn’t mean that she is unintelligent, just that her Rider is going to have to watch out for her a bit more. She trusts that everyone will keep their word as solidly as she would, and that no one would ever wish to harm another. When she finds evidence to contradict this, it upsets her quite a bit, and she will be quick to curl up with her bonded and seek an explanation - preferably a positive one. Even when she has been hurt by another, she will continue giving them her warm regard despite her own pain, and is quick to accept an apology and move on.
Though her belief in the goodness of the world will be a bit trying to some, to many she will be that one being you’d like to talk to after a hard day, as even if the rest of the world seems to be against you, she will be there. Her infectious sense of peace and happiness will likely make her quite popular among more than just dragons, a veritable beacon of a draconic humanitarian.
