Character:
Name: Samhara
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Weyrwoman, Goldrider
Description: Short of stature Samhara is athletic and somewhat widely built. Her whole demeanor speaks of steadfast resolve, and despite her short height of 5'2", she is capable of still managing to look everyone in the eye with a stern glare. Her fair brown hair is short, cut to well above her shoulders and slightly curly, falling in waves about her roundish face. Cinnamon eyes capable of shooting daggers sit above a pert nose and curvy lips. Her figure is quite feminine and curvaceous, welcoming men in a way that her demeanor never would.
Her riding leathers are crisp and of a natural hue, subtly denouncing the need of many for bright or eye catching colors and other such fripperies. A single bit of color rides around her waist in the form of a rose colored sash embroidered with her favorite flowers, a congratulatory gift from her sister. Sensible, well worn boots match her leathers, and her gloves are fingerless to allow her small hands better purchase.
Personality: No nonsense. Words that describe Samhara perfectly. She takes her position as Weyrwoman very seriously, and if anyone decides to cut up in her presence, that person is guaranteed to have her glare and possible slashing remark in return. She has no tolerance for pranksters and jokers, and she is hard pressed to crack a smile even in the most jovial circumstances. Her facial emotions range from angry to stoic to steadfastly unhappy with very few variations between.
She has few redeeming qualities, one being that she's unerringly fair and just when meting out punishment or reward alike. If someone has truly done something worthy of note, she won't hesitate to state as much, but she is equally likely to cut down someone who has done something utterly stupid. If a situation arose due to your laziness or ineptitude, you'll be certain to know about it on multiple levels before Samhara's done with you.
Holding family highest of all, Samhara keeps in close contact with her sister Sarah especially, happy to send a return letter any time Itzu, her sister's bronze flitter, comes for a visit.
History: Samhara was born the eldest of two daughters to a metalsmith and his wife in Keroon Hold. Her mother was ill most of her life, and her father constantly busy, so it was left to her to take care of her mother, run the house, and raise her younger sister, Sarah. The two grew up close and maintained a strong bond throughout their lives.
Shortly after Samhara’s 14th birthday, the lingering illness finally claimed her mother’s life. While Samhara was saddened by her loss, she found her mother’s departure to be a relief, lessening her household duties. With her spare time, she certainly didn’t laze about, taking the opportunity for her sister and herself to begin learning beastcraft. It was not long after this time that the Dragonriders from Igen Weyr showed up in Keroon, on Search, and it was sheer coincidence that Samhara ended up meeting them. Out in the fields tending to a birthing herdbeast, she had no idea that the riders were in town and nearly ran into one as she rounded a corner, headed towards her house to bathe off the birthing mess.
He introduced himself as D’ran, and insisted she stop and speak with him there on the spot, despite the mess. When asked of her history, Samhara gave short work of it, leaving no room for pity of the girl denied a childhood, simply acceptance and hard work. Impressed by her intelligence and determination, it took D’ran the rest of the evening to convince Samhara to join him at Igen Weyr for Candidacy. After she cleaned up, he argued with her the whole time she cooked the evening meal, and it wasn’t until he sat down and supped with her family that she finally agreed to it, due mostly to the encouragement from her father and sister.
It was several weeks between Samhara’s arrival at Igen Weyr and the hatching, and she took the time to diligently learn all she could, quickly overcoming even the Weyrbrats in terms of knowledge of dragons, Weyrbusiness, and life. When the time finally came, she stood calmly on the hot sands until the wobbly little queen burst from her egg and nearly toppled onto the tiny girl. Strength borne of hard work and adrenaline allowed Samhara to balance the beautiful gold as it nuzzled her head and whispered pleas of hunger into her mind. I am Trith; and you are mine.
Her time as a Weyrling gained her only a few friends, as many were greatly torn between her abundance of knowledge and her tendency to frown on any sort of childish mischief. After graduating from Weyrlinghood and into her place as a Junior Weyrwoman, she was welcomed by the other queenriders with open arms. She was knowledgeable and efficient, and kept excellent records. Her aim with a flamethrower was at first shaky, but grew into confident handling. She could be sympathetic to others’ needs, but not so much as to be soft to manipulation.
When thread began to fall upon the land once again, she found herself an asset in helping to direct the groundcrews and keep an eye on the skies to take note of who did well and who made mistakes. Two Turns into the Pass, another queen was hatched on the sands of Igen. Holding only about 300 dragons at maximum capacity – which they likely shouldn’t reach for another decade or so – having a total of four queens was starting to become cramped. There was also the fact that the queens would rise more often due to the Threadfall, and the Weyr would quickly become overpopulated. There wasn’t much they could do about it just yet, so they made due.
When the tragedy at Silver Cove Weyr struck seven Turns into the Pass, it was felt planet-wide as the dragons of all the other Weyrs mourned their fallen cousins. When word came that not only had both the queen-dragonpair and their only gold egg had perished, but that the Weyr was scrambling to relocate under the direction of their still-grieving Weyrleader and those of his Wingleaders that had survived the catastrophe – Samhara knew what her duty was. The small Weyr would need the direction of someone who knew what was necessary inside and out – and she could provide that. They would need a queenrider to teach any newly-hatched queen her duties – and she could do that. And she could then also alleviate the burden placed upon her small home Weyr.
Without further question, she spoke to her Weyrleaders and announced her desire to transfer to Cerulean Weyr.
Bonded Critter:
Type: Dragon
Name: Trith
Color: Gold #ff9900
Age: 14
Description: Trith is a huge gold. Easily the size of the renowned Ramoth, her tail twitches just a bit longer. Her large, elegant head has equally large eyes, her headknobs long and tapered. Her body is powerfully muscled, limbs and wings strong and firm with good health and good exercise. A long neck sits on wide shoulders, her entire body long and of medium build.
Trith's gold sheen is quite dark of hue and slightly reddish tinged, giving her an almost brassy look in the right light. When she rises to mate however, the gold sheen comes through the most making her brilliantly metallic. A spattering of almost white-gold freckles and larger splotches wink over her back and down her spine, parallel her large notched backridges.
Personality: Despite Trith's massive size, her demeanor is gentle for a gold. She expects the same perfection in her wings as her rider does, but is more indirect and soothing about delivering chastisement. She enjoys the company of her rider, and of other dragons, as is fairly tolerant of other humans. She isn't above whipcracking a mental shout at someone who strays too far out of line, but this is fairly rare.
Unlike her rider, Trith enjoys a little bit of frivolity, and will often try - most times unsuccessfully - to get her rider to join in with her. She can sometimes coerce Samhara into playing, and the two enjoy these brief times, despite her rider's insistence to the opposite. She also enjoys the attention of males, and will sometimes flirt quite a bit with any who show interest.
