I know I've been absent for more than a month, and I wish I could say that I'm back, but the truth is that life is simply overwhelming at the moment. A family member died recently and another is fighting a serious illness, add school to that and you've got a Kristín with no time or motivation for role playing.
I'm sorry guys, I love this Weyr and I sincerely hope that it won't die because I plan to return someday. Hopefully in the summer.
Best of luck to all of you guys.

Running his comb one last time through his hair, F‘ren sighed. It was rare that the bronzerider didn‘t want to go to a feast, but tonight, and a while before that, he had simply not been in a very festive mood. But K‘roi had made it clear that attendance was mandatory and maybe the feast would even take his mind off things, what with the joyous occasion of being promoted to full dragon rider status.. F‘ren scrutinized his appearance in his small hand mirror, he looked good as usual, but there was a certain tiredness in his eyes that hadn‘t been there before. The soon to be rider scowled at the mirror before putting the offending object away and calling to Patch. The little blue would accompany him to the feast even though the firelizard didn‘t like crowds. But crowds were bearable when His was with him. Eneth was awake and alert, eager to follow the proceedings through F‘ren‘s mind but thankful that dragons weren‘t required at the feast.
As he entered the Great Hall, F‘ren stopped for a moment, observing the people that were already there. The newly impressed weyrlings were easy to spot, they were practically glowing, and F‘ren allowed himself a small smile at the memory of how he was at his feast. The bronze weyrling grimaced a little though when he saw the new bronze weyrling, that stuck up annoying one. He tried scanning the crowd for the little girl that had impressed the white dragon but couldn‘t see her. Perhaps she was uncomfortable in crowds that consisted of mostly older people. F‘ren waved to a few people he knew but decided against sitting with someone since he saw no one he particularly desired to talk to. Nope, it would just be F‘ren, wine, Patch and of course some more wine until K‘roi‘s announcement. And the Survival Weyrling‘s promotion to full rider status, which F‘ren had to admit, was rather exciting despite the circumstances.
--
Even though Cerulean‘s queen had gone between earlier, K‘vin was surprised to find that his spirits were actually better today than they had been since the attack. There was something about a hatching, new life and new impressions, that just gave him hope and happiness. He tried not to think of the stolen eggs that had also hatched today because he was not going to ruin the relatively good mood he was in. So he entered the Great Hall with a smile on his face and Toll sitting proud on his shoulder.
Looking around, K‘vin spotted his friend, K‘ron, immediately and walked straight to him. K‘ron didn‘t seem to be in very good spirits, but that was to be expected. It had been some time since the attack but K‘ron had lost his good friend and, probably role model, there. And of course with the loss of the queen today, there had been an awful lot of losses. Including Lialla... That had been the greatest loss for K‘vin, and suddenly he was reminded of the last hatching feast, or rather the bonding in the weyrling barracks where he had befriended Lialla and she had had a large part in K‘vin‘s self acceptance.
I thought tonight was supposed to be a happy occasion Mine, do you not remember how happy you were only moments earlier? Tonight we are celebrating the little ones‘ arrival and we should not be sad on a night like this. Asileth‘s little speach was welcome to K‘vin who felt slightly better, and even more so when Toll crooned and rubbed K‘vin‘s cheek with his head. You‘re right my love.
K‘vin squared his shoulders before taking the last steps to K‘ron, and then sat down. His friend had already started on the wine and K‘vin wished he had some experience drinking wine, because he really didn‘t think it was a good idea for him to start drinking tonight, it could end badly. „Hello K‘ron,“ K‘vin said warmly and clapped him on the shoulder. „Have you got any idea what the big announcement will be about?“

Somehow it didn‘t surprise K‘vin that the brownrider responded to the hug with ease and it said something about their friendship that K‘vin was secure in the belief that the angry frown that marred his friend‘s face for a moment, wasn‘t because of him. Well, perhaps it was because of K‘vin, but it was certainly not aimed at K‘vin. He just wished he knew what the weyrling was thinking.
K‘vin had to commend K‘ron for actually letting the green weyrling‘s sappy words slide with only a grin and a few words instead of teasing him mercilessly, but that was just part of the boy‘s easygoing personality. And when K‘ron started talking about his old crush, K‘vin was happy to listen. Because that‘s what friends did, they were supposed to know things about each other that no one else did. „Well, I‘m sorry that you didn‘t have the guts to do something about it,“ K‘vin said with his eyes twinkling. „But I‘m still kind of glad that things didn‘t work out, because as you say, then Asileth, Toll and I wouldn‘t have our best friends!“
K‘vin leaned on the stall, waiting for K‘ron to finish, taking in the quick and well practiced moves. „But you know, she sounds like a really good friend of yours. You could visit her sometime, after all nothing is too far away when you have a dragon. Do you still keep in touch with her?“ K‘vin grimaced a little when he realized that they were nearly ready to go out and ride. Their talking had made K‘vin forget for a moment what they were here for but now he was getting nervous, not sure anymore that this was a good idea.
When the two dragons touched noses Asileth felt a shiver of affection for her brown brother. It was so strange how Asileth cared so much for her large sibling when she couldn‘t be bothered with most of the others, but Asileth spent little time contemplating that thought since Calzanth had already gone exploring and Asileth didn‘t want to be left behind. It is really good to see you too, my brother! And I‘m coming! [/i]

((Short, I know. *uses school and being sick as an excuse*))
Couldn’t he even walk normally? Could he do anything normally? Probably not, F’ren decided after studying the little freak. But the man was after all treating Eneth, so F’ren kept his mouth shut for the time being. He had to have a civil conversation with Mikovren at least while he talked for Eneth. The bronze dragon had no desire to speak directly to Mikovren, knowing that His disliked him, not knowing exactly why though so Eneth was careful not to take sides in the matter. He loved his rider to death, but he couldn’t understand how his mind worked sometimes.
Tell the Healer that I feel no pain in my body. The pain inside him was not spoken of, both dragon and rider felt that Mikovren had no business knowing about their personal problems. F’ren spoke neutrally while he spoke for Eneth, but never once looked at Mikovren, preferring to keep his concerned eyes on his bronze.
He stepped away from Eneth though when the bronze extended his wing carefully. F’ren was impatient for Mikovren’s verdict and hoped that it would be a positive one as he was eager to get into the air again and hoped that with Eneth’s physical recovery would come mental recovery.
“So? Will he be able to fly again soon?” F’ren asked harshly, berating himself slightly for letting his true colors show so early on, but also just not caring anymore what Mikovren thought of him,

When a hand clasped K’vin’s shoulder firmly in a comforting gesture, K’vin’s whole body relaxed and he obeyed K’ron’s order meekly, looking the brownweyrling straight in the eye. He saw nothing but kindness and acceptance on K’ron’s honest face and his words only confirmed that K’vin had nothing to fear, he still had his best friend. If K’vin had been the sort to start crying at emotional moments, he would probably have bawled his eyes out, but thankfully he only felt really warm inside and a smile slowly crept on his features before K’vin was grinning so hard that it almost hurt.
“So, if you’ve got no problem with me being gay, then you’ve got no problem with this right?” K’vin said mischievously before stepping forward to grab K’ron in a hug. The gesture was meant as a joke but K’vin turned serious when he stepped away. “K’ron, you’ve really got no idea how much it means to me that you’ve taken this so well. Just... Thank you. I mean, really, really thank you.” K’vin couldn’t help thinking about how his folks back at Silver Cove Hold would have reacted and shuddered a little. They would never know if K’vin had something to say about it.
Hi lightened up again, remembering K’ron’s comment about L’cin. He couldn’t help the goofy smile that came every time he thought about L’cin. It was like he reacted still when Asileth and Toll were mentioned in a conversation. “You two will definitely have to meet, my best mate and my... Well I don’t know what we are.” K’vin blushed, he was still too afraid to ask L’cin exactly what their relationship was, but he was still pretty sure that they were on the same page. “And he’s definately good enough for me, much more than good enough. He’s so great. He’s so kind and cute and funny and sweet and just... Perfect.” K’vin almost barfed at his own words, but he couldn’t help it, it was true!
Asileth observed with glee when Calzanth dove into the water and followed quickly, not to be outdone. Yes, let’s play Calzanth! This was so much fun! Asileth didn’t normally play or talk to the other dragons, and didn’t have any desire to, but this was different. This was her favorite brother who was so much more fun than all the other dragons in Cerulean combined.

Before he knew it, K’ron was back with a whole lot of stuff. K’vin was proud to see that he actually knew the name of all the things but when K'ron started talking about tacking up he lost K'vin and his confusion was clear on his face, but it all became clear when K’ron stepped into Rain’s stall and started ‘tacking her up’. K’vin followed him in and observed with interest what the older boy was doing, because it could be that he’d have to do it himself someday. If he liked this riding experience.
And then K’ron reminded him of what he had been putting off for ages and suddenly all of K’vin’s nervous gestures appeared. He gnawed his lip, rubbed his hands together, fidgeted and started looking everywhere but at K’ron, which was made hard by the fact that they were both in a small space.
“Well you know that L’cin and I are friends right? Well for a while we’ve been... more. So I guess I’m trying to tell you that I’m gay. Or maybe you already knew that because... greenriders... And I hope you don’t mind I know that you haven’t been that long in the Weyr so maybe you aren’t used to it, well I’m not even used to it... But I would hate to lose my best friend.” He had rushed everything out without looking at K’ron and held his breath while he waited for a response.
Asileth perked up when her favorite brother greeted her. She was getting bored with being alone in their weyr, doing nothing. Greetings Calzanth. I would love to go for a swim with you. Silver Beach? It was too long since she had seen her favorite brown in the world and like her rider she had missed her friend. Asileth wasted no time in leaving the weyr and in no time was on the way to a nearby beach. Today she would get to see Calzanth!

Everything was going so well, Trith was happy and the candidates were all lovingly communicating with the eggs. No one had commented on K‘vin and Asileth being there and K‘vin could feel waves of excitement coming from his green. If she was like this now, what would she be like at the actual hatching? She‘d probably want to mother all the hatchlings, regardless of what Trith would think about it. It really was too bad that K‘vin was never going to have any children, Asileth would love that.
Suddenly all thoughts of younglings disappeared and instead a wave of panic overcame K‘vin and Asileth. K‘vin stood rooted on the spot for the longest time, trying to make sense of all that was happening. Cerulean was being attacked. That was about all that registered. His home was being destroyed. And they were stealing the eggs. That woke K‘vin up. Well and the fact that there was a crazy man running towards him with a big club.
Asileth was in hysterics. There were dragons dying in the Weyr and the really evil/crazy guys were stealing the eggs! And what was wrong with those dragons? They were dirty and disgusting and crazy. And then a crazy person was nearing Hers, who was so little and weak and would never be able to protect himself.
Asileth roared and swung her head to knock the man down. He didn‘t black out and was on his way back up when K‘vin‘s instincts kicked in. He needed to protect the Weyr at all costs, the only place where he had been loved and accepted. He was not going to stand by while it was destroyed. Plus, he didn‘t really want to die. So he ran to the man and kicked him squarely in the face while he was still on his knees. The man fell to the ground yet again and dropped his club. K‘vin picked the club up and before he had a chance to think about it, he smashed it against the man‘s head, again and again until he was completely sure that the man was dead.
Now K‘vin was running on pure adrenaline, he didn‘t even pause to think about the fact that he had just taken a human life for the first time. He saw Tessarin dragging an injured person away from danger and immediately realized that he would be of most use doing that. He saw a really big male candidate on the ground with a head injury and started dragging him from the sands, following Tessarin. It was slow going and K‘vin wasn‘t able to defend himself from attacks but Asileth stuck close to him, biting, clawing and hitting anyone crazy that dared come near Hers.
Toll was not missing from the action either. He had grouped together with numerous other firelizards and together they were attacking the badtwolegs! They helped a goodtwoleg to kill a bad one and then moved onto another one. All those bad ones should leave! Now! And go away from the bigeggs! He really wanted to be protecting His though, but the greenbigwing was doing that, so Toll could focus on the badtwolegs.

Once F‘ren felt that he had gone far enough, he let Kavvi gently down. She was beginning to wake up and started mumbling something but F‘ren put his hand over her mouth . „Shh, you‘re safe here. Don‘t go anywhere, I have to go back. There are other people there that need to be saved, and perhaps the fire can even be extinguished.” He gently removed the hand that was weakly grasping his wrist and had turned around when he remembered Patch. He located the terrified fire lizard and put him down beside Kavvi. “Listen Patch, I know you don’t want to leave me, but you have to stay here. It’s very dangerous and scary where I’m going.” Of course Patch didn’t like leaving F’ren one bit, but he remembered how hot and scary it had been in the foodstuff place and he didn’t want to go back there. So F’ren was able to leave the drudge and the blue behind, where they were comforting each other, and run to the kitchens.
When he got back to the kitchens, he observed with relief that other people had arrived and were busy extinguishing the flames. It apparently was a chemical fire of some sorts and you couldn’t use water to extinguish it. He had just arrived when there was an explosion in the storage rooms. M’ma was yelling something about getting someone, what was M’ma even doing there? It couldn’t be good for him. Everything was just so confusing and F’ren didn’t know what to do…
He forgot about M’ma while he started to copy Toven, doing everything in his power to stop the fire from spreading. But then he saw M’ma again and he was injured but still the strong Weyrling Master continued fighting the flames. F’ren started to run to him, he had to get the stubborn man out of the kitchens, he needed to be seen by a Healer. But he was too late, M’ma fell down to the ground and his blue firelizard disappeared between forever. F’ren choked back a sob while he lifted his Weyrling Master up in his arms. No way was he letting him lay there to be eaten by flames. He didn’t go far with the body, as soon as he saw a relatively safe spot he let him down. He had to go back to help. Had to focus on the task on hand and forget about M’ma for the time being. There would be time to grieve later.

Despite the circumstances K‘vin couldn‘t help but smile widely when he saw K‘ron. Sure he‘d often seen him around and chatted briefly with him, but this time they could really talk. And K‘vin had to tell him something. But that would have to wait a bit. „Hi K‘ron! It‘s so good to see you!“ K‘vin exclaimed, forgetting for a moment about runners and that small matter he needed to discuss with K‘ron. „Asileth is as happy as ever and I... I‘ve been doing good. Very good actually and there‘s so much I have to tell you.“ His smile faltered a little bit in nervousness. „But you and Calzanth? He‘s gotten so big! Almost like a bronze really.“
Ready to go? Oh. That. K‘vin cleared his throat nervously. „Yeah, sure. Super ready.“ Not. Although he knew that he was in good hands, K‘ron was good with runners, that he knew. K‘vin walked slowly towards Rain‘s stall. She looked friendly at least, not as intimidating as Jet. „Hello Rain. My name is K‘vin.“ Well K‘ron said to get to know her. A hesitant hand reached over to touch her lightly on the nose, before retreating again. The mare did nothing but stare at him, ears leaning forward in curiosity, so K‘vin started stroking her lightly and then with more determination when he saw that she wasn‘t complaining. She was so soft to the touch and K‘vin forgot himself petting her, a small smile playing on his lips. This he had to share with Asileth
Look Asileth! I‘m petting a runner! Her name is Rain! K‘vin let the green see through his eyes but Asileth was unimpressed. She looks more like food to me. And plus, Asileth was a little jealous of the beast. Asileth! Well, it seemed like he wasn‘t going to share his experience with his darling green.

Who: K'vin, K'ron What: K'ron teaching K'vin how to ride on a runner When: Late afternoon a couple of days BEFORE the touching of the Tasseography clutch. Where: Starting in the stables Warnings: None ((Pardon the terrible title. I just couldn't resist )) K‘vin jumped when a runner nearby positively snarled at him. The weyrling had a bad feeling about this, and judging by this one runner, the runners did too. He had reluctantly caved in to K‘ron after the brown weyrling had asked and begged and blackmailed K‘vin to let him teach the green weyrling how to ride a runner. Oh, who was he kidding. K‘ron had only had to ask and K‘vin had accepted right away, against his better judgment. It was just that K‘vin didn‘t have that many friends, and was constantly afraid to lose the few people that were dear to him, like K‘ron, L‘cin, Lialla and S‘lain, by doing something stupid. So when someone suggested something, K‘vin just generally tended go along with it. Besides, K‘ron and him hadn‘t done anything together in ages, so he was looking forward to meeting him, even if it had to be in such a setting. It was not that he hated runners, no far from it actually. He had always admired them, they were no dragons or firelizards, but beautiful they were. It was rather that he was afraid. Afraid of actually sitting on top of one of those creatures while they ran. Maybe it was silly, considering that he had no problem with being on dragonback, but at least dragons didn‘t shake while flying. Or trip over a stone. And if he fell down from a runner, he would make contact with the hard ground, while a dragon would always catch him before that happened, in the unlikely event of not being secured enough to the dragon. And well, there was that matter of uneasiness because it was K‘ron. His best friend. And he really didn‘t want to make a fool of himself, like he would on his first time on a runner, in front of him. But because it was K‘ron and not somebody else who had asked him, K‘vin was in the stables, waiting for the man. Asileth and Toll had been instructed to stay away, he didn‘t want them to distract him, or worse, the runners. So K‘vin waited alone, with the many runners of Cerulean, who all seemed to be staring at him suspiciously. Couldn‘t K‘ron just be here already?

F‘ren snarled. Where was that Mikovren? F’ren didn’t want Eneth to have to walk very far, he shouldn’t strain himself. To F‘ren‘s untrained eyes, Eneth looked like he was healing well but you never knew. And it was just so hard to have to deal with a moody dragon and F‘ren had to pretend all the time that he knew that everything was going to turn out fine, and that he wasn‘t a bit worried.
But to be honest, F‘ren was a lot more concerned about Eneth‘s mental health than his physical one. Since the flight the bronze had been angry, defeated and sad and had lost all self confidence. That was the hard part for F‘ren since Eneth had always been a happy dragon with heaps of confidence in himself and F‘ren. Before the flight they could do no wrong. They were invincible. But now...
So F‘ren hadn‘t been all that happy lately. And it was just his luck – or lack of – that Mikovren was Eneth‘s Healer. Nooo, they couldn‘t have S‘lain. They had to have Mikovren that F‘ren had decided was a jealous freak who only disliked F‘ren because he had a dragon, a bronze one, and Mikovren didn‘t. Maybe he was also jealous of Patch since he had after all attended the firelizard hatching but had returned empty handed, something F‘ren loved to gloat over.
But F‘ren was so not ready to face that man, if you could call him that. The mutual dislike was obvious, though F‘ren had no idea why Mikovren disliked him so, bar the aforementioned jealousy. But a small part of F‘ren enjoyed being around Mikovren because with him F‘ren didn‘t need to put up any pretense of liking him, and could just be himself. Particularly useful today because F‘ren just needed to release some of his frustration with life somehow and Mikovren was perfect for that. Now if he could only find him.
Ah, there he was. F’ren shuddered a bit, like he always did, when he saw Mikovren. He just looked so weird. Both dragon and man walked slowly the last bit of the way, F’ren wanting to delay the unavoidable encounter and Eneth just overall unenthusiastic. Finally they were there. And F’ren was torn. It was in his nature to be polite and charming but he so wanted to straight to the snarkiness. While he contemplated on what approach to use, he grunted an acknowledgment, only briefly looking Mikovren in the eye, before averting his eyes. No point in having to look at the man longer than necessary.

Pfff, L‘mar had a point but F‘ren wasn‘t about to acknowledge that anytime soon. Instead he just shrugged and grinned. „I can‘t even remember my candidacy really, it seems so long ago now.“ A lie. F‘ren definitely remembered each and every one of his six Turns as a candidate.
„It‘s strange now to think about what it was like without Eneth, he‘s such a big part of me now.“ And now they were ready for weyrlinghood to be over already and be wingriders. „I can‘t wait to actually get to fight thread. I just hope I‘ll get a good Wingleader. How about you? Looking forward to doing some actual good?“
F‘ren grinned at L‘mar when the green weyrling attempted to defend his sister. It was clear that he loved her and F‘ren really shouldn‘t tease him, but whatever. „Hmm, I like smart and fun girls. Maybe that means I have to get to know her better.“ F‘ren sounded like he seriously did want spend time with Lialla, and a little wink followed. „She‘s not bad looking you know. And neither are you.“
Now he started running his eyes obviously over L‘mar‘s body. „If you just had breasts... But then again some girls have practically no breasts so it would be all right...“ F‘ren stared longingly at L‘mar before he couldn‘t take it anymore and burst out laughing. „Nonono, don‘t worry L‘mar. Your virtue is safe. But your sister...“
