C'ko grinned at the hungry green. Oh yeah! He needed to feed Peth! He grabbed some meat from M'ma and sat down next to Lialla. "Yep! It's C'ko!" he said, the grin not leaving his face, "Hi Cryth! She's pretty, sleepyhead! Too bad she's not sleepy like you. You can't hunt felines together!"
A look of "oops" crossed his face. Zan hadn't mentioned that theory to Lialla, had he? Oh well. He'd just let her wonder. C'ko grinned as he fed the blue some meat. The dragonet snatched it and devoured it. He looked even more wher-like as he ate in a very uncouth manner. No civilized chewing for this blue.
He looked up form his meat to look at the green that spoke to him. Oh yes! His wanted them to meet, right? The green seemed so friendly! Even though she called him weird. It didn't matter if she thought he looked weird, though. She wanted to be friends! Joy filled his heart as his tail thumped the ground behind him and he devoured more meat.
Oh yes! I am Peth! And you don't look so weird. It looks like Ours might be friends already! Have you met Polo? I could not see him at first, but C'koMine showed me! Isn't that great? The blue chattered on, seeming more talkative than a green.

Cheko gasped at the other boy's suggestion. Of course! That was such a good suggestion! Cheko liked this older boy a lot. He was like the older brother Cheko never had...or knew he had at least. He especially liked that he at least played with him in regards to Polo. he obviously had no idea who or what Polo was, but he was nice enough to joke around with the boy.
Cheko didn't even feel like correcting Zan. Of course Polo didn't always live on Cheko's head. That'd be silly. And Cheko would have a mess of firelizard droppings in his hair. Cheko took the opportunity to sit when Zan offered, sliding next to him and looking up with a large grin on his face. He didn't know if sleepyhead would join them. She seemed pretty into doing work. Wow, she was weird.
The question threw Cheko for a loop though. Which was he? He had lived at Benden for a while with his dad. Then at Bitra Hold. After thinking about it shortly, he enthusiastically answered, "Both! I was born at Bitra Hold, moved to Benden Weyr, then went bsck to Bitra!" He gave the boy a smile, hoping this was an adequate answer.

So much was going on, it was hard to keep track. All the eggs had hatched. And then the green was leading the poor brown. She led him towards the girls. Was the brown meant to Impress one of them? Valee perhaps? A cross Impression of that sort was rare, but not unheard of. Yes, the brown was heading towards her and Batavia, the girl who had helped with chores. Maybe it was one of them! She would feel very happy if the other Impressed the brown, but would feel slightly sad. Any Impression would be nice. And browns were lovely.
But, no, the brown didn't seem to want them. This was confirmed as Valee felt a searing pain across her stomach. She quickly intook breath, making a hissing sound. Then a small, cry, glancing down as the white slowly grew dark with blood. Shards! And as she began to wonder what to do with herself, the last dragonet Impressed. Again, she was left standing. That hurt just as bad as the marks across her torso. She barely registered someone talking to her.
Her large, round eyes looked slightly watery as she looked to the other girl. The tears dried up instantly when she saw the other girl in much the same predicament. "Oh yes, I'm fine!" she said, offering out her hand, the one that she had managed to not get bloody. "You need any help? We might want to go get looked at." She offered the girl a pained smile, knowing that both of them were hurting emotionally as well as physically. Valee had really hoped this time would be the time.
---
Cheko watched eagerly as the last of the eggs Hatched. A green and a blue. And then there was the brown. The green, trying to be helpful, led the brown to the Candidates. Cheko related to the brown. He just wanted some attention. Luckily, that green was good to help him along the way. Unfortunately, the brown didn't seem to like where the green had led him and went on a rampage. He hurt two girls and the cool Zan guy he had met before. And then he Impressed. Not to him.
Cheko sighed, turning his head to where Polo was. "It might still be just you and me, buddy. It'll be alright, though." As he said this, the green Impressed. Only the blue was left. Now, most would think the blue looked ugly. Not Cheko. He grinned as he watched the blue romp and play. Just like a baby canine! It was really cute in an odd, ugly way. Cheko liked it. He grinned as he watched it, but the grin lessened in sheer surprise as he watched the blue sit in front of him and thump its tail.
C’komine, Peth missed you! Peth is sorry, would C’komine feed his Peth now?
A sudden love for the ugly creature filled his heart. "It's ok, Peth. Let's go get you food! Lots of food!!!" the boy told him and they both romped merrily off the Sands together. Really, the pair was perfect with their awkward playfulness.
Cheko, no C'ko now, strode confidently into the feeding room. The grin on his face was one of the biggest he had ever worn. In all the excitement, C'ko had forgotten about one very important thing. Polo. And the imaginary firelizard wasn't too happy about that. he had gone through the whole trouble of staying and C'ko hadn't introduced him to Peth. How rude. The firelizard gently nipped at C'ko's ear, causing the boy to cry out in pain.
What is wrong, C'koMine?[/i] the blue asked, very concerned that C'ko had been hurt by one of his clutch siblings.
"I...uh...forgot to introduce you to someone. Peth, this is Polo!" he said with a grin, hearing the firelizard chirp in his ear with approval.
Mine...nothing's there... The blue pointed out. C'ko though and then quickly came up with a solution. Their minds were still syncing. He sent the blue a picture of the firelizard and showed him what the brown was doing. Oh! Polo is nice! Though he should not hurt Mine anymore! the blue did not mind that His had a firelizard. For Polo was now as real as C'ko believed he was.
"He won't!" the boy called happily, "I gotta introduce you to someone else now!" He quickly found the one he was searching for. He ran up to Lialla, Peth wagging his tail behind him and said to her. "Hey sleepyhead! I like your dragon! This is Peth! Is your dragon SleepyDragon?"
---
M'ma greeted all the Weyrlings as they came off the Sands, directing them to the food. He explained not to feed them too much, even though they should be able to feel the dragon's hunger now. Soon, he was just running back and forth, making sure no one needed anything.
"No, no, dear, that's too much!" "Well, then stop if you're feeling full. He'll try to ask for more!" "Get a smaller piece, darling, it's only a green. That piece looks more for the likes of a bronze."
He was relieved once everyone seemed to get the hang of it and looked out to see the rejected Candidates. It was sad, to be sure. But all of them would be able to Stand again from the looks of it. It was a small clutch. Maybe when a bigger one occurred, there'd be more selection and everyone would find their dragon.

M'ma shook his head at the brown. He needed to go Impress. Trith was right to push him out. He seemed to need the encouragement. M'ma clapped for the green that just Impressed. and then stood up. As much as he wanted to watch, he should probably make his way down to meet the Weyrlings. He had to make sure they weren't feeding their dragons too much. He made his way down, beaming at the newly Impressed.
"Hello, hello, my darlings!" he said with a grin, "Congratulations! What lovely dragonetts you all have! I hope you are all finding them easy enough to feed. Does anyone need any help?" He walked over to the first to Impress. Her dragon looked fairly satiated now. It was only a Green, so it didn't need too much. He wanted to make sure that the ravenous hunger that was to be felt between the two didn't cause the girl to overfeed her.
---
Cheko watched the brown with curious eyes. Why wasn't it Impressing? He absent-mindedly stroked Polo's head, thinking about why this was so. He had forgotten that firelizards weren't allowed, but most people seemed too concerned with the Hatching to pay the boy's actions much mind.
Soon, his friend, Lialla, had Impressed. A grin spread wide on his face. Sleepyhead had Impressed! He wondered if her dragon was sleepy too. He studied the little one. She didn't seem that sleepy. But you never knew. The two might sleep the days away together! That wouldn't be good for Lessons, though. No sir.
After applauding his friend, he looked out. There were two male dragons on the Sand. Maybe one would be his? That would be quite exciting. Well, probably. He looked over to Polo and his heart skipped a beat. No, he couldn't think about that again!
---
Valee watched as Trith pushed the brown forward. Why wouldn't it go Impress? She shook her head. Now there was a bronze and a green on the Sands as well. She watched the green hopefully, eyes wide and dreamy like they sometimes got. But, no, after raking at a poor girl's leg, the green ran to another and seemed quite upset. The poor green probably didn't mean to hurt the other! A hatching was just so much excitement.
Valee watched the injured girl, hoping she'd be ok. She was sure a Healer would tend to her very soon. The wound didn't look like it would be too bad for her to continue Standing. Luckily, the clutch was not too big so too much blood loss would probably not be an issue.

Valee looked up as they were joined by a new face. She waved at the girl and pulled the rag around her mouth down, "It's fine, we're just getting started," she said, looking the girl over, "You...might want to cover your nose and mouth. We're dusting, so it's bound to upset some lungs." She laughed, then quickly added, "I'm Valee. A Candidate." She wondered if the other girl was a Weyrling. Her name sounded like it might have been shortened. But it was a girl, right? Did girls get there names shortened?
What would that her? V'lee? She laughed mentally at the picture and replaced her rag to continue dusting. She didn't really want to be there all day. It was a good thing someone else had come to join them. She wasn't too late either. Probably right on time. And though Batavia wasn't supposed to be helping them, Valee certainly appreciated the help. But would the other Candidate leave them now?

Maybe it's that the Sands are so hot, Candidates can still feel the Sands through the sandals. -shrugs-

M'ma had hurried his old bones to the Hatching as soon as Heneth informed him of it. He had almost been ready for bed, which made it slightly annoying, but he hurried anyways. This was too exciting after all. This would be the chance to see all his new Weyrlings. He got there just in time to see a girl Impress a Green. He cheered for her heartily. Many more eggs hatched and soon a Blue and a Brown were both Impressed with another Brown on the Sands. What a lovely clutch.
M'ma watched the unImpressed Brown. He was sitting so closely to his adoptive mother, it was really quite amusing. He seemed like he didn't want to be out of her sight. How would he Impress like that though? Trith would, hopefully, move him along. He needed to Impress or else he'd between. The Weyr needed as many dragons as possible. Especially strong, sturdy browns. They always made great dragons and many rose to wingseconds.
---
Cheko watched as everything happened in a blur. A green, a blue, a brown, another brown. The first three Impressed. He watched them walk off the Sands, greatly jealous of them with their new partners. Still, though, a smile was on his face. What did he have to frown at? He was at a Hatching after all, right? He had the chance to Impress a dragon. And even though there were only five left, one very much could be his.
He turned his attention to the brown on the Sands. He was sitting to closely to Trith. What was up with that? Was it a momma's boy? Technically, Trith wasn't the dragon's mother. Did it know that? As he mused this, Polo rubbed the boy's cheek. He needed to pay attention to the Hatching! He had already missed so much!
---
The dreamy look in Valee's eyes never left as she stared at the dragonetts that hatched. They were all so lovely. She felt herself flash back to the disappointment of last time. What if the same thing happened? She fell inwardly more and more as each dragonett passed her by. Well, she didn't know if she saw herself Impressing a Brown or a Blue. But the green had seemed nice.
She couldn't get too down though. There were still eggs left. And maybe, just maybe, if she didn't Impress she could try again. She would have to ask if that was the case. She forced her mind to stop thinking about the past and future and focused on the present, applauding as each pair walked off the Sands. It was a happy occasion and she needn't bring anyone down.

Cheko was happy that he had gotten Polo to stay with him during the Touching. Even though firelizards weren't supposed to come onto the Sands, especially during Hatching, Polo had to come with Cheko. It was a must. Cheko needed Polo with him. These were his thoughts as he tossed a rolled up sock up and down like a ball. The sock had a certain smell that wasn't too attractive and suggested it had been worn recently and needed to be washed.
Cheko, though, didn't seem to mind the smell, even though it wasn't his. He had felt that his socks were much too small to make a proper ball. He wasn't sure whose room he had taken them from, but he had taken them all the same. After a particularly high toss, the humming started. Cheko missed the "ball" coming down in his sudden shock at the Hatching, leading him to a face full of smelly socks.
He shook off the sock and smell, his nose twisted in disgust. The sock was a lot worst in the face. He changed in record time, much due to the fact that he didn't particularly care about his appearance. With Polo wrapped around his shoulder, the boy was off. Luckily, no one could see Polo so he wouldn't be told off for bringing him. This made his grin even wider as he dashed to join the rest of the group. He bowed to the Queen like the rest in the group and joined the circle, bouncing up and down quickly.
---
The day was going to be soon, Valee was sure. She paced in her room, extremely nervous. She had kept her Candidate robes out for the past couple of days, making sure it was clean and free of wrinkles. And, then, the humming came. She found herself freaking out a little as she slipped into the white robe.
She hoped this would be the last time she had to put it on. That and she'd walk off the Sands with her very own dragonett. She hurried to the Sands, cursing she wasn't one of the faster Candidates. When she arrived, out of breath, her curls ruffled around her face. She took the moments that they waited for all the Candidates to catch her breath and then marched confidently on the sands. Her large round eyes were focused on the moving egg as they walked on. She took her eyes off only to bow low to the Queen before standing in the semi-circle with the rest. She couldn't believe it was happening.

"I transferred with the original clutch over here," she said with a sort of sad smile, "I was left Standing unfortunately. There's always second chances, right? And, thanks, I could really use the help." She laughed at this, shaking her head at the mess. It was ridiculous. Good thing she wasn't a Harper or she might be ready to strangle someone.
She nodded to the girl and replaced the rag around her nose and mouth. She felt bad letting a Candidate do a chore assigned to her, but she was supposed to have help anyways. If this girl wanted to find anything anytime soon, helping seemed like a good option for them both, especially with Valee's pace. She turned and returned the work. The other girl didn't seem like a huge talker, but Valee hoped she wouldn't prove to be one of those chatty people who had to hold a conversation while working. It really just slowed Valee down.

Valee had been vigorously wiping off scrolls of dust when the other girl walked in. She didn't notice her at first. No, it was more important that she get every speck of dust off these scrolls. They would be the freshest records anyone had ever read. The jumped at the sound of a voice.
"Oh hi..." she said, smiling at the other girl with a sheepish grin. She hoped the other hadn't seen her jump like that. The girl seemed just as shocked at the lack of order as she was. It wasn't much fun, but it was the chore she was assigned. That made her wonder.
"Nope, no order yet. I'm getting to organizing them once I'm done dusting. It would drive me crazy if I didn't." She was talking quickly and,she soon realized, muffled due to the rag she had tied around her mouth to keep the dust out. She pulled it down and took a deep breath. Ewww, the air was still dusty.
After a short cough to clear her throat, she smiled at the other, "I'm Valee. Are you a Candidate too?" She kind of hoped this was another Candidate assigned to help with this tedious chore. It was too much work for one person, especially Valee.

Cheko stuck his tongue out at Lialla playfully. He'd work when he wanted to. She didn't seem to feel the need to give him attention though. Luckily, another boy showed up. Well, he wasn't much of a boy compared to Cheko. Much closer to a man. In fact, he looked about as manly as they came. Even his long hair, which he seemed to have tied back, couldn't detract from that.
"Yep!" Cheko piped up at the other's question, "I'm Cheko. And her name is sleepyhead, despite her saying it's Lialla. She likes to sleep in the middle of the day. Weird, huh?" He grinned as he went over to him, mind easily turning to his more troublesome side. How was he to best cause a little trouble an mischief with this one? "Oh!" he qucikly added in, pointing to the top of his head, where there was nothing there, "This is Polo. Can't forget 'bout him!"
The grin he offered the male candidate helped in no way to explain what "Polo" was to him. He'd have to ask and make things awkward or just smile and nod like many people chose to do. This would be a nice start to learning what this new Candidate was like.

"Sleepyhead it is then!!" He beamed, hiding his frustrations well. How did he crack this girl? How could he push her buttons. She seemed like she had come out her to chew him out, but she kept cracking into this smile. It was rather annoying. But Cheko would never let it show. Nope, no weakness present on this face.Just the grin that the girl was starting to feel unnerved about. Of course, that was part of who he was. If she knew his past, she might be even more unnerved by his odd behavior and smile. His mother certainly was.
She had accepted the idea of Polo easily enough in his opinion. Most people just stared like he was crazy. But, a wink's as good as a nod, he supposed. The exaggerated head nod said almost said the same thing. It didn't matter what she thought. Or anyone for that matter. He was well attached the fire lizard. To him, Polo was as real as the sleepy girl in front of him.
Musing on the fact that she was so tired, he absently scratched the "eyeridges" above his shoulder. It wasn't to freak her out more, but if he didn't do it so often without thinking, he would have realized it probably would for most people. He was thinking on other things. He was wishing he was a Harper for just a moment. That way he could make sure to at least bug her to death while she was trying to sleep. Yes, that'd be fun.

"My firelizard, of course!" the boy chirped, slipping his hand out of the girl's quickly and wiping it instinctively on his vest. He had to get the girl germs off after all. With his "newly clean" hand, he pointed above his shoulder to the firelizard he knew deep down she didn't see. "The brown right here." Of course, that'd help her sooo much. Cheko was chock full of help.
"So, sleepyhead. You didn't tell me your name. Can I just call you sleepyhead?" he asked her, craning his head slightly so maybe he could see into her room for something to use against her in a prank, "Why ya sleeping now anyways? It's not sleeping time, sleepyhead! And I don't like to sleep. I'm too young to like that." He grinned at her in his roguish way, enjoying the fact that he was aware of his distaste of sleep and other such boring activities mostly because of his youthful age and the energy that accompanied it.
On a good note, at least to him, he seemed to be getting on her nerves. But she kept smiling again. Like she was changing her mind. That was annoying. It would be so much more fun if she was mad at him. Maybe if she yelled some or told him off. That'd be neat.

Valee had slipped in with the first batch of Candidates, trickling in towards the end. She had bowed low, like the others, though their example was not needed, really. She had been through a Hatching before, after all. After they had been given permission to Touch the eggs, she stepped forward. She was going to go about this more thoroughly this time around.
Her plan was to touch every egg and let her hand linger, not dismissing any egg. You never knew, after all, what lay inside. She looked about and decided which one to go to first. She decided to go to the end first and work her way back since most would settle on the front eggs first. She approached the Frenatum Egg. She set her hand on it and closed her eyes. The egg gave a dull warmth. It seemed content with its station. Perhaps it would be one of the last to hatch?
She left that one and headed to the Puntius Egg. It had a lovely greenish sheen to it and seemed to flash in the light of Rukbat. The egg almost seemed striped upon closer examination. She allowed her hand to rest on it as well and then moved on to the Corydora Egg because of the proximity. It was a smaller egg and as she placed her hand on it, she felt a wonderful warmth. The egg seemed to welcome her openly. She enjoyed the feeling greatly. It was the strongest she had gotten so far. But after seeing the smiles spread to the others who touched the egg, she just assumed the dragonet inside was already welcoming all to his or her world. Next, was the Splendens Egg. Of course, the most natural egg to follow was the Xiphophorus. The eggs seemed so codependent. It made her curious how the dragons inside would Impress. Would they Impress to siblings? Friends? Lovers-current or future? Curious, she placed a hand on each of the eggs at the same time, feeling the energy they shared.
Next, the colorful Poecilidae Egg caught her eye. It seemed to seek the attention of all those around it and pull them in. But it certainly was something to behold. Valee wondered how she wasn’t drawn to it first. She was sure many were. Next, she moved to the smallest egg, the Axelrodi. It was very pretty, shimmery even. It seemed to be fine with competing with its more vibrant sibling. It was simply there and would be seen eventually.
The last egg was, in Valee’s mind, the easiest to choose last. The Colisa Egg was indeed still pretty, but seemed to lack sparkle. Valee kind of liked that though and let her hand rest there the longest, feeling the warmth that seemed to rise from the reds and yellows of the egg shell.
---
Cheko had arrived with the first group, but had not gone in. Instead, he stood, toeing the Sands. Another had run past him and apologized to the Queen. He still hadn’t gone in. Polo was clutched tightly in his arms. The firelizard and boy had continued their talks up until the point. Cheko was almost certain Polo would stay with him, at least for this time. It was odd how much a boy could understand his imaginary firelizard, really.
He wanted to Touch the eggs. Badly. But fear still kept him off the Sands. What if something fell like last time? What if an angry brown soared in to take his revenge? Cheko shuddered. Suddenly, a wrinkled hand rested on his shoulder. He looked up to see an older rider.
“What’s the matter, honey?” M’ma asked sweetly, concerned that the Candidate still hadn’t entered the Sands. Trith wouldn’t be happy, he was sure. Neither would the Weyrwoman. “You should really go Touch the eggs now. And apologize for your lateness.”
“But…” the boy said, staring at the space of air he awkwardly held his arms around.
“What is it?” M’ma questioned, a concerned look on his face to hide his utter confusion, “Talk to M’ma. I’m here to help.” The boy quickly explained the situation the best he could. It was odd how the whole thing returned him to a child-like state that wasn’t very devilish at all. M’ma stared in wonder at the boy. Apparently, the awkward air in the boy’s arms was supposed to be a firelizard named Polo.
“Umm….well, let’s see,” M’ma said, a small frown on his face, “Let’s try taking one step onto the Sands and see what happens. You can tell Polo to stay if you want.” Cheko nodded and the “three” of them too a step onto the Sands. A grin spread on his face. “Now another.”
Soon, the two had approached the Queen and Weyrwoman. Cheko had his normal grin back. M’ma gently pushed on the back of the boy’s head, and the boy bowed. He was willing to play nice for the moment. Partly to avoid the troubles of last time. And partly because M’ma had helped him keep Polo.
“Weyrwoman, lovely Trith,” M’ma said, bowing low, “I would like to explain what kept this little one here. Turns out his firelizard, Polo….is…uh…a little afraid of the Sands. He tried to leave the boy last time. So, Cheko here was scared it would happen again. He would very much like the opportunity to Touch if it’s alright with you, though. We seemed to have been able to convince the…err…firelizard…to stay.” He didn’t know what the pair would say. It could easily be no. But if that’s the case, the boy was young. He could Stand again, surely.

Who: Valee and whoever What: Chores When: Early Afternoon Where: Library
---
Valee stretched as she walked into the space that would one day be an organized library. She felt like this task was perfect for her. She had the patience to really get some stuff in order. It just might take her a Pass to do it. She knew others had been assigned to come and assist in this task, but they seemed to not have arrived yet.
She shrugged, she didn't mind. She could get stuff done now and maybe be able to chat and get to know some people once they arrived. This job wasn't too incredibly taxing physically or mentally. Well, it didn't have to be. Organizing would be the most mentally challenging thing they had to do. But for the moment, dusting was in order. She took a rag and tied it around her mouth. She had dealt with dust before wasn't extremely fond of it. Though getting dust off of yarn was much harder than getting it off of records.
She grabbed another cloth and set to work dusting. After that, she had a plan. She would start to organize then. Hopefully, they could be arranged easily into categories. She wasn't sure how exactly would be the best way to do it though. She pondered this as she thought. The records could probably be put chronologically. Any teachings would hopefully be titled and contain the Harper's name. This task wouldn't be so bad, she thought as she continued to raise a cloud of dust.
