While I'm sure we all know how to post up something in a forum, knowing the differences in speech, the colors, the words, it can be confusing to someone who is unaware of how things work. So, this is a shorthand guide to interpreting the dialogue and phrases one might find in a post. I will be adding more as they come up, so if you have questions or additions to suggest, please message Rouxy.
First and foremost, the differences in speech.
S'lain: "Hello." -Note the quotations.
S'lain: Jaxith? Mindspeech from a rider to his or her dragon will probably include italics and may or may not include quotation marks.
Jaxith: Hello. -Note the color and italics. This is the easiest way to differentiate dragon speech, as many dragons can be in a single post and still be distinct. Every dragon will have its own color to describe itself. Usually will not have quotation marks. The code is below for each.
Firelizards: Flitters converse in a sort of third person generalized way conveying their emotions about a particular subject, as they don't speak. Whers will likely be seen this way as well. The idea isn't necessarily even that they are thinking in such a concise way, but more to get the feel across to the person reading, and firelizards and dragons will most certainly understand each other to this degree.
Example: Turning a tiny flip in the air, Zeek trilled his happiness. His females were back! He alighted on Rozen's shoulder and nuzzled into his typical spot with a warble of affection. Why didn't she let him come? He missed her!
Whers: Very similar to the way Flitters express speech and emotion, whers also don't speak, but the difference is that they understand on a much more complex level of thought. Almost like a dragon without speech. A Handler will typically be able to understand what his or her Wher wants simply through emotion and picture communication.
Words and Phrases
Bonded: a creature's bonded, or a human's bonded creature. Example: The firelizard trilled at his bonded, demanding food.
His, Hers, Humanpet, Mine: All of these words may be seen when a firelizard, dragon or wher are given thought about their bonded.
Example: The green flitter turned a wingover, keenly aware that Hers was watching. -Note the capitalized use of the word denotes its importance, much like weyr and Weyr.
An alternative to this sentence could be. -The green flitter turned a wingover, keenly aware that her humanpet was watching.
Dragons will usually refer to a rider through their dragon.
Example: Gareth's said we must come to wingdrill. -This usually means a message was sent through Gareth from his rider, 'Gareth's' meaning Gareth's rider.
