Who: Brillia, L’cin, Queth, BABIES, and anybody who wants a baby. ♥ What: Fire-lizard Hatching. When: Afternoon. Where: Hatching Sands, southern edge near the stands. Warnings: None. L’cin had just finished his chores for the day, and was wearily heading back to his weyr for a nap before dinner. Thank Faranth he would be officially graduating soon. They were now participating in wingdrills in addition to Weyrling chores, and it was slowly killing him. The fact that he was seriously starting to miss his little golden cuddle-flit was also weighing him. He just wasn’t used to sleeping alone anymore, and he’d had to go curl up next to Queth’s head a few nights here and there when he was unable to sleep. Like last night. Which was part of why he was so exhausted. He was surprised, then, to enter his weyr and find the now-gigantic brown missing. ‘Queth? Where did you go?’Watching her, was the only response, and it made him laugh. ‘Her’ could only be one thing: the imperious little gold that had once been so sweet. She’d somehow managed to get enough fire-lizards to make up two whole fairs to guard her eggs with her, ordering them about as only a queen could. And the large brown dragon was just as much in her sway as he adored her. Shaking his head, L’cin was about to curl up and go to sleep without either of his mindmates when Queth prodded him. .o0O0o. Soon. Soonsoonsoon. Brillia meticulously turned her eggs again. They were perfect and precious and her babies would be here soonsoon! She crooned lovingly at them, sending happy images to her brownmate as she did so. Curling up on her woodperchthing that she’d made next to her prettynest, she was slowly giving in to the drowsiness from the heat and the small backwash from her bonded when she heard a little shift. Springing up and awake, she was about to chew out whatever creature had DARED to move her eggs – and also all the fire-lizards around that were supposed to be protecting them! – when she realized there was no one there. Looking back at her darlings, she nosed the Caramel Egg back into the place she’d last set it. When it suddenly shook back out of that place, she squawked in surprise and sat back. What…? Reaching out to prod the egg back into place again with a claw, she understood when it made a quiet noise as it wriggled back out of place. Oh! Her babies were hatching now, yesyes!!! Trilling her excitement, she barely contained the urge to do a few joyous twirls in the air. She couldn’t leave her nest, after all! She quickly urged Herbigbrown to let Theirs know so he could comecome nownownow and see her lovelies hatch! Queth happily obliged Hislittlegold, prodding Theirs out of his sleepiness with the news. They hatch, Mine! They hatch very soon! And he was content with mentally tracking Theirs as he ran through the various passages to get to the Sands. Until L’cin reminded him to call for those people who’d sought them out saying they wanted a chance at the eggs, while L’cin made a detour to the kitchens for the meat. Queth obliged His, but with a pout. Why didn’t His want all the cute little babies to bond to them instead? L’cin finally got to the Sands, lugging a bucket full of meatscraps and tidbits that the kitchen workers had given him when he’d explained his need. Setting it down nearby – but where he could keep it safe from the other assembled fire-lizards, he plopped down nearby Brillia and tried to mimic her loving croon back at her. Caramel Egg: Impressed - brown (Cloud) - Raelwyn.Chocolate Chips Egg: Hatched - brown - Batavia.Cookie Crumbles Egg: Impressed - blue (Patch) - F'ren.Hot Fudge Egg: Impressed - green (Aeris) - Dastan.Nuts Egg: Impressed - force-hatched dud (Tiieh) - V'taph.Sprinkles Egg: Impressed - green (Angel) - Zanalorin.Whipped Cream Egg: Impressed - blue - Valee.

Awake. At this time of the day? She was still not quite used to the hours handlers kept, but all in all, it had not been a bad trade-off to the astronomer. She could both stargaze and chart during the entire night, with Naosk right beside her. Or, that's what she'd thought as she'd rationalized that first evening in her apartments, a sleepy mind pressing lightly against hers as flashes of dreams, familiar and yet very much not so ran through her mind.
Now, the blue was as familiar to her as any had been before, and he understood things like she'd never expected. That first week alone had been filled with enough information to write a book. Or several. Naosk was growing too. Already, tiny bumps in his mouth signified growing baby teeth, and he was at least twice the size he'd been at hatching. She could still carry him, but only just. He was teething like a baby, and she'd gotten him several soft pieces of wherhide to chew on. They littered his couch, on which he was now snoozing, still in the middle of his own 'night'
Naoko jumped as a dragon brushed her mind, dropping an interesting tidbit of information. A flitter hatching? She had mentioned something about getting one of the adorable creatures to the owner of the gold, but now with Naosk... she wasn't so sure if she should. As if sensing his handler's uncertainty, the blue roused just slightly from sleep, testing the mental currents in His. He gave her a small mental shove, and promptly drifted back to sleep. Unbidden, a gentle smile came to the woman's face at the blue's assistance in her decision, and she promptly roused from bed and made ready for the hatching sands. She arrived shortly after, her mind still lightly holding the connection to Naosk with a certain sense of wonder. She could feel his breath, his movements in addition to his thoughts.
The sands sent a burst of warmth through her feet as she plodded closer, abruptly assailed by the sight of firelizards everywhere.
Another person arrived just after her at a run, panting from the effort it had taken him to dash up several flights of stairs. Bending at the waist, Zan placed his hands on his knees to help him catch his breath, one hand balancing a bowl of meat. His delighted eyes darted here and there after flashes of color as flitters whirled and gyrated through the air. He'd been at the docks (what a shock) and the news of hatching firelizards had made him drop everything and sprint for the sands.
He was determined to claim one of the little things for himself. He'd even stopped by the kitchens for a handful of seconds with "Hatching flitters.... need meat" panting out, only to promptly be handed a bowl as if they already knew. The sands were hot, like before, and the candidate was suddenly filled with a longing to return here at a later date, when much larger eggs adorned the sands. He straightened after a moment, and took a few tentative steps forward, noting the queen in the center. A small grin quirked the corners of his mouth as he swept a low bow towards the tiny queen, complete with flourishes, passing the woman who'd stopped to wait further back.

Toll stood proudly next his lovelygold and observed the clutch. The gold was his and the eggs were his and from the eggs little firelizards would come and Toll would be their sire. If it was possible for Toll to puff out more in pride, he would do so now. His goldmate was falling asleep but Toll would do no such thing until theprettygold was awake again. Toll needed to protect his babies and he was much better at it than all the other firelizards that his beautifulgold had gotten to protect the eggs. But what was this? One of the eggs had moved! Toll crooned his worry before realizing that they were coming! The little ones were coming! Not having the restraint that his queen had, Toll flew up into the air, shrieking in happiness and did a couple of twirls before composing himself. He returned to his stunninggold and took a protective stand over the eggs, waiting for the humans to come impress his children. Humans! His bonded human must come and witness the arrival of Toll’s children! Toll winked abruptly between. --//-- K’vin was curled up to Asileth trying to explain human dining habits. I understand why a knife is used. That is to cut the meat, yes? But why do you use a frok? Why not just pick up the meat with your hands and put it into your mouth? Can you scratch that spot just over your head Mine? It itches. K’vin smiled fondly at his green and scratched obediently. He enjoyed those evening conversations with Asileth and never got tired of explaining human things to her. It’s called a fork dearest, and we use it so we don’t have to get our hands dirty, or put our dirty hands in contact with the food. Asileth was about to reply when a shrieking brown firelizard interrupted their peace and quiet. K’vin stood up with a grin to welcome Toll, he had seen very little of his firelizard since Brillia clutched. The brown seemed to think that if he was not constantly there with the clutch, something bad would happen. And K’vin had never visited Toll and the eggs since he feared that He would be there. Oh Toll had begged and pulled and pouted and scratched trying to get K’vin to go to the clutching but the weyrling hadn’t budged. He was still wrapping his mind around what had happened after the flight and he was not ready to see Him just yet. Unconsciously K’vin touched his lips with his fingers, even though all traces of Him there had long since been wiped away, K’vin could still feel His soft lips against his own. K’vin blushed like he always did at the memory. Shaking his head to rid himself of those unwanted thoughts, K’vin lifted his hand for Toll to perch on but the brown had no time to talk to his bonded. It took K’vin a while to realize what Toll was trying to say but then it dawned on him. The eggs were hatching and Toll was demanding that K’vin should go and witness the arrival of Toll’s children. K’vin shook his head softly, as much as he wanted to be there to witness Toll’s triumph, he just couldn’t go. Nonsense. Of course you will go and I will go also. I want to see the little ones and you do too. You also want to see Queth’s even though you pretend that you don’t want to. So we will go and see the tiny ones come. With both his dragon and firelizard pressuring him to go, K’vin was powerless to resist. And maybe he did want to see Him. Toll wasted no time disappearing again after making sure that His was coming, and returned to the eggs relieved that none had hatched or been hurt in his absence. Despite the situation, K’vin had to laugh a little at the fact that Brillia had chosen the hatching ground as a suitable place for the clutch. She was a queen after all. But there was nothing funny about the fact that K’vin could see Him there, sitting beside his gold. K’vin mentally steeled himself and walked determinedly towards the eggs, Brillia, Toll and Him. K’vin was slightly unsure how he should act when he was only watching but not trying to impress but decided in the end to sit a few feet away from the clutch so he wouldn’t be in the way of people trying to impress and there was little risk of doing something to anger the number of firelizards present. And well, he didn‘t exactly trust himself to be nearer Him than he already was. Realizing that he had just plopped down with Asileth beside him without saying a word to Him and Brillia, he reluctantly realized that he should probably greet them or something… “Um. Hi. Toll… Wanted me to come see. Um, is that all right?” K’vin sneaked a quick look at Him before looking down, brushing imaginary dirt from his sleeves, and that cursed blush that always insisted on appearing on his cheeks at the worst moments. ----////---- F’ren growled in frustration. Eneth was refusing to talk to him and was feigning sleep in their weyr. The bronze dragon had not taken F’ren’s news well when he had finally decided to tell the bronze that he had asked to try to impress a firelizard. If F’ren’s calculations were right, Brillia would be clutching soon so he really hadn’t been able to put off telling his bronze for much longer. He had expected Eneth to sulk a little bit and then forgive him, but Eneth had been angry, very angry and F’ren had felt his dragon seething before he had calmly told F’ren that he was very angry at him and then closing his mind to his bonded. They had never fought before and guilt gnawed at F’ren for putting his dragon in this position. But shard it, it was also Eneth’s fault. Most dragons loved having firelizards around them and many encouraged their riders to get a firelizard. But not Eneth. F’ren just couldn’t help it that he had wanted a firelizard for almost as long as he had wanted a dragon. They were cute and fun, utterly useless of course but F’ren wanted one. And what F’ren wants, F’ren gets. Besides he was sure that Eneth would come around when F’ren had impressed one. After all, impression couldn’t be taken back so Eneth would be forced to get along with the little thing. And in time Eneth would love the firelizard. And it would also be good for Eneth to have a firelizard for those times that F’ren had to be away from him. That way the bronze would always have company. F’ren gazed at his dragon, his excuses were all well and good but he hated that he had hurt Eneth and that Eneth wasn’t letting F’ren inside his mind. F’ren felt his eyes getting wet and he cursed himself for being such a baby. He tentatively approached Eneth and settled against the bronze, the warmth and physical presence of Eneth comforting F’ren while he cried and begged Eneth to talk to him. He felt the bronze slowly relenting and opening his mind and smiled trough his tears. Just as he anticipated Eneth’s warm voice resonating in his head, another dragon spoke to him and when Eneth realized what Queth was saying, he promptly closed himself off again. F’ren hated himself for doing this but all the same, he stood up and left Eneth for the hatching sands. Today would be the day that F’ren would impress a firelizard and nothing would get in the way of that. He hoped that there were not many others trying to impress, but regardless of numbers, F’ren was a bronze dragonrider so he was confident in his own ability to impress a little firelizard. F‘ren arrived at the hatching sands out of breath after running there after taking a slight detour to the kitchens. He wasn‘t sure if there would be meat already there so he thought it would be best to bring some himself just in case. He saw that Brillia had apparently commanded a large portion of the Weyr’s firelizards to come and watch over the eggs and it seemed that everywhere he looked there were firelizards. Already a woman he didn‘t recognize and a boy who‘s name began Z or something, he wasn’t sure, were there. And of course L‘cin and K‘vin with their dragons and firelizards. F‘ren smirked at the memory of them in the common area, trying to fight of mini-flightlust. It had been very entertaining to say in the least.
He approached the miniature queen and bowed deeply to her. Granted this was not a dragon hatching with all the formalities, but it was only polite to show one‘s respect for the mother. „Good evening Brillia, L‘cin. So, how does this work?“

Curling a strand of hair, and carrying a bowl of neatly chopped meat, another figure ambled into the hatching sands, and soft, wordless, upbeat tune echoing in a faint hum around them. Silver eyes gleaming, with a flash of admiration and faint longing before it faded, focused in on the fair of fire lizards attending the clutch and the golden mother. It amused the Journeyman, constantly, that a young, first-clutching fire-lizard, gold or not, had the charming audacity to claim the hatching sands for herself and her precious clutch-where the dragons roamed. Stepping lightly towards the clutch, Mikovren raised an eyebrow at those present, and tucked away a grin, seemingly stumbling steps carrying him smoothly over the sands.
L’cin, Brilla’s bond, and a fairly handsome if shy new brownrider-who he’d not gone after yet. Weyrling were off limits, he knew. Besides, he remembered that little scene at the flight, and couldn’t wait to see what happened when K’vin’s darling green rose a turn or so from now. It was bound to be cute and amusing, watching the two dance around eachother-not that he’d ever admit it. Naoko he didn’t know, though he remembered her as being newly bonded to a Wher. Interesting… Raising two of the dragon-kin at once. Hmmm…. His eyes passed over her to the other two present, dismissing the bronze weyrling F’ren. He hadn’t been too impressed with his attitude, at times, though to be honest, he knew none of them well. Perhaps he should save judgment…
Zan, however, made him grin laconically. At least one of them had thought to bring meat for the little beauties, and well, he never minded looking at a handsome specimen-which Zan was. And tempting, since he knew of the candidates…propensities…. He might just have to look there… Then, though, Mikovren shook his head slightly, and dropped the curl of hair. He knew better than that, though he still wasn’t sure why he was here, this time. Bowing sardonically, though not mockingly, the healer waited to one side of the clutch, half his attention on them, the other on those fire lizards in the air heralding the event.
In his time here and at the Halls, he’d never bothered to attend more than two hatchings-those both at Healer Hall. The love he had for the critters, and their kin, drove him to attend, but after the disappointments, he’d chosen to stay away. More, he wasn’t sure what he wanted yet-though he had to admit to being rather curious after his readings on the bonds, and even more so after lectures from S’lain about the bond itself. Besides, they were rather pretty…
And he had been bored today anyways. So perhaps one more try. It couldn’t hurt, right? “Brilla. You should be proud of your clutch, little golden one.” His soft voice was amused and lilting, before he started to hum again softly, in a descant with the excited fire lizards. Glancing towards the entrance, the dragon healer frowned, wondering if others would arrive, or some of this clutch would end up joining the local wild fair. Shooting a look at L'cin, he smirked, suddenly. "Nervous? Or just picking up on her pleasures?" He teased, softly, referring to the flight...fiasco.

Being asleep during the day, and staying up at night- it could do some strange things to a person's social life. You missed a great deal of the common gossip, which was fine for Toven... most of the time. Hatchings, however, were important Weyr events. The flitter hatchings were advertised almost purely through word of mouth; the wher handler wasn't awake when most of the population was, so he missed some vital things. Like, apparently, a gold's clutch hatching. Now.
The wherlings had been doing quite well, growing swiftly, and their handlers learning with surprising celerity. Most of them, at least. With them consuming a great deal of his time, as well as his Watch duties, Tov didn't have a good deal of time to himself. Hence, he had begun to wake up earlier (a lot earlier) to be able to take care of himself. Which brought him to today- exhausted, hungry, and in the hot Kitchens to find some much needed food. To fix the aforementioned-problem of hunger. He had been working on waking himself up when a boy rushed in eagerly, saying something about a flitter hatching. Now.
It only took a brief moment to remember that Tovsk loved babies- of human, draconic, whatever. And that was all the encouragement he needed to go, ask a kitchen girl for a bowl of meat, and then, when she complied, asked where the hatching was, exactly. See? Inconvenient to be awake when the Weyr was sleeping. Worth it, but inconvenient. But the girl gave him a destination, and so he nodded, took his bowl, and set out, following the boy who had detoured to the kitchen for meat.
Walking onto the Hatching Grounds a few minutes, restraining a yawn, he recognized a few of the people there. The clutchmother and her humanpet... yeah, he didn't recognize them. Feeling a bit the fool, Toven walked further onto the Sands, to greet the gold. Hopefully she wouldn't be one of 'those ones', that despised anyone whom they didn't recognize. That could have a negative effect today. "Greetings- I'm Wherling Master Toven of Tovsk. I heard of the hatching, today, and brought meat scraps to present to the hatchlings..." he told both the kid, and the gold flitter. Just because he was older didn't mean he'd developed people skills over the Turns.
((I'm pretty sure if I read this over, it wouldn't make sense. So.... I'll be sure to do that when I can breathe out of my nose. XD))

Chores, chores, chores. That seemed like the only thing happening around here. Valee didn't mind too much. At least her stomach had healed wonderfully. She was glad that the scarring was very light. It never even itched anymore.
She had just finished the day's chores. Scrubbing the docks was hard, kinda gross work. But they shined once she left. She, however, was not shining too much. She frowned down at her muck-covered hands and the knees of her pants. She needed a bath. And that's exactly where she was heading, curls bouncing despite the grime in them. Without thinking, she had run her hand through them. She could only imagine what was left in there.
However, a bath didn't seem to be the thing that was in store for her. She blinked as a dragon's mind touched hers briefly. A hatching? There was no dragon hatching. The wher hatching had just finished. What could it be? Suddenly, it hit her. The flit hatching! The hopes of getting clean and smelling of something other than fish left her mind as she rushed towards the Sands. Hopefully, the little gold wouldn't find her too offensive. Valee always did her best when it came to hatchings. But she didn't have time to go bathe now.
She arrived not he Sands where some others had gathered. She paused for a moment. She should probably bow. I mean, firelizards probably would get angry if not shown the proper respect. SHe gave a quick curtsy to the lovely Queen and looked from her to L'cin. "I'd really like to try and Impress one, if that's ok." she gave a winning smile, but was secretly hoping that no one found her too offensive. She had been really scrubbing the docks. WHat did they expect? You got sweaty and dirty and smelly doing that. If the Hatching had started a candlemark later, she would have at least been mostly clean. She wasn't sure how long it would take to get the fish smell off.
---
Meta was glad for her preparations. She felt like she was one of the few that slept more like their wher already. Metask was so wonderful, she wanted to be awake for him. That way, they could play after their lessons and chores were done. She was so proud of him, he was getting so big.
The brown wher was currently sprawled out on his couch, making a strange almost-whistling noise in his sleep. It was a noise he had been trying to perfect the past few nights. But Meta wasn't quite sure where he had heard it or what it'd sound like when it was perfected. She was happily sprawled out on her bed, making her own sort of noises. Loud, obnoxious snoring.
This....peaceful...sleep wasn't to last long. A dragon mind brushed hers and quickly woke her up. Oh no! The Hatching! She wanted a wher! With that thought in her mind, that she had missed the wher hatching, she scrambled out of bed and landed face to face with her wher who slowly opened one eye. Oh, yeah.... She had already been to the Wher Hatching. Then what Hatching was it?
Flitter! She grinned. That'd be sweet!!! Metask made a small huff. What is she got a stupid girlylittleone? She would bother them with all her troubles. Especially a gold. She would tell him what to do all the time. He made the strange whistling noise which seemed to be an acceptance and the brown slowly fell back asleep. He would love the flit if Meta got one because he loved his Meta. And perhaps she'd get a blue or a brown or a bronze. That wouldn't be too bad at all. They'd be bachelors forever! Well, Meta technically wouldn't, but it didn't matter.
Meta ran towards the Sands, not thinking about how tired she was. Upon arriving, she recognized a couple she knew. And then, after a small bow, she saw the eggs. She gave a cat-call sort of whistle at them-they were a beaut. Suddenly, it hit her. That was the sound Metask was trying to make. She giggled in spite of herself and hit her forehead, not caring if anyone thought she was weird. She moved next to Naoko, clapping her on the back. "They're a nice-looking clutch, ain't they?" Class was never her forte....

When Batavia heard about the firelizard clutch hatching she quite literally dropped what she was doing, tossing unfolded clothes on her cot, grabbing her small med kit and running for the kitchen. She got a small bowl of meat scraps after a short but heated argument with a kitchen worker and quickly headed for the Sands. She gave an awkward bow/curtsy to Brilla before taking a spot among the other hopefuls.
Batavia breathed heavily, taking in deep gulps of air while she mentally counted who else was around. More people than eggs as was normal. Batavia was surprised L'cin was just giving the eggs away. Personally, she would have sold them to the highest bidder, after saving one for herself. She knew better than to suggest the idea to the weyrling, a chance at a free egg was better than paying. She nodded to Mikovren, not surprised to see the other journeyman.
If asked, Batavia would have justified her desire for a firelizard by saying how helpful it could be, in addition to just being a pet. Firelizards had been trained to do all sorts of things, and she liked the idea of using one to carry messages or alert people. If she was being honest, however, she might admit to seeing a firelizard as her best chance at experiencing a dragon Impression. So she waited, looking over people's heads and trying to see which eggs were rocking.

L'cin smiled at the various people that joined him on the Sands. He'd met quite a few new people after putting up that sign saying to speak to him if they wanted to try for one of Brillia's hatchlings. He'd gotten questions about selling the eggs, but he didn't think he could honestly put a price on them - and Brillia wouldn't let a soul remove those eggs from the nest for anything. She was willing to let them all bond to humans instead of going wild, which was a nice surprise, and that was good enough for him. ...Well, that, and the fact that the people that he and Queth hadn't had such good feelings about...might...maybe-possibly have not gotten a call to the Hatching. He didn't play favorites, but there were just some people that struck him as not being good candidates for his lovely's babies.
First came that woman Naoko, and he gave her a nod in greeting. Then there was Zanalorin, whom he didn't know well, but he'd seen him around and his brother had impressed one of the younger bronzes. He was nice enough, even if he sorta...seemed to flirt. But that could just be his imagination. Or maybe that was just how he acted, like a certain bronzerider he knew. He did get a chuckle from L'cin with his ostentatious bow to the tiny queen. Brillia added a pleased chirrup to that, letting the twolegmale approach a bit closer if he wanted.
And then...oh shards. L'cin could feel his face heat the moment K'vin stepped into view. He might possibly have avoided the other boy as much as possible after the...Incident (as it had been deemed in his mind, capitalized and everything), but he knew it wouldn't last for long. ...Not that he exactly wanted it to, but whenever he thought of going to talk to him he would seize up and flee back to Queth. S'ren had teased him pretty viciously about it all (though she had relented somewhat when she realized how much it distressed him), and Queth just thought he was silly. He fidgeted a little as he watched K'vin plop down a little ways away, trying to force out a greeting. Reminiscent of their kitchen duties, K'vin apparently was able to get the words out first. "...H-hi. Oh, yeah, you're fine- it's fine," he winced and gulped, biting his lower lip and peeking up at K'vin to see if he noticed the slip. Oh, he was blushing too and that just made him even more- "Um...I suppose Toll's pretty proud, yeah?" L'cin could beat his head into the wall behind him till he couldn't feel anymore, and he was pretty sure he'd still feel stupid for that.
Luckily more people arrived, and L'cin was able to give F'ren a half-grin. He knew about Eneth's distaste for fire-lizards, and was rather surprised when F'ren had asked to be told when the Hatching was. He did look a little worse for wear, though L'cin was pretty sure he could only tell that because he'd been around the other guy for a fair amount of each day for over a year now. Even if he could be an annoying bugger when seeking to turn L'cin into a blushing, babbling mess, he was still a pretty good guy and he hoped things were alright between his friend and his dragon. Brillia did like all this bowing stuff, and was tickled pink when the second twolegmale did so. He could come near too. "...No idea, actually," L'cin said as he stared at his silly little mindmate and shook his head. She was a trip. "Easier than dragons, with less chance of mauling? Well, then again..." he looked at the multitudes of 'guards' and grinned. "Once they start hatching, just get a little meat in your hand and hold it out to them. They'll eat, and bond if they wish to."
L'cin then nodded to Mikovren as he approached. He recognized him from the times he'd had to bring Queth by the infirmary for his basic checkups...and the occasional scrape earned by the ever-curious brown. He didn't bow like the other twolegmales, but he did seem to give her a compliment, so Brillia was still rather pleased. Yes, she was veryvery proud of her lovelyeggs. L'cin smiled and echoed her loving croon as she quickly tapped on a couple more. The Cookie Crumbles Egg had started to rock a bit now, as had the Chocolate Chips Egg. The Caramel Egg's shakes were getting a bit slower but more violent, though they weren't as strong. It took L'cin a moment to draw his attention back away from the eggs enough to process what the dragonhealer was saying. ...Pleasures? No, of course he wasn't referring to- the Incident. No...no, definitely not. Not everyone had been there to see him act so...so...not-him, right? Blushing, L'cin cleared his throat and managed a reply. "A little nervous for her, yeah. It's her first clutch, so..." He shrugged, not really certain how to end that sentence. "But she is very happy right now, if a little anxious." Just don't even mention...it. That was the best policy, yes. Don't mention it, and move onto the next subject...
Which was another man showing up that L'cin hadn't met as of yet. He was older and looked nice enough...but L'cin still eyed him a little warily. Though he introduced himself as the Wherling Master, which did gain him a little credit. The various youngling-Masters all had to be rather nice, right? He'd really only dealt with M'ma (who was a huge positive in that department), but he was fairly certain on that fact. Smiling at the older man, he gave a quick nod of his head. "Good to meet you, sir. I'm L'cin of brown Queth," he nodded toward his preening brown, "and little gold Brillia here. These are certainly going to be well-fed little ones, but I doubt they'll mind." He chuckled, aiming a helpless grin at Toven.
When Valee entered, Brillia chirped at her. Ooo, she smelled like tastyfish! She would have to have Hers get her some tastyfish after her preciousones all were hatched, yesyes. Deciding that anyone who would smell like tastyfish would feed her baby well, she twitched her head to beckon the girl closer. And she did the curtsything too, which was always a plus. Biting his lip rather hard to contain a fit of giggles at the little gold's thoughts, he gave Valee a nod and motioned with a hand for her to help herself to some of the meat he'd brought.
Another girl walked in, and L'cin nodded at her as well, directing her to the meat-bucket. She'd seemed the rowdy, tomboyish type and he was honestly surprised S'ren hadn't already claimed her as a best friend by now. Actually, he wasn't sure if they'd met - and that was a feat for S'ren. She'd find the other girl eventually, but he wasn't about to help inflict his sister on people. The random giggle and forehead-smack wasn't really taken much note of. He was used to living in a place where a certain percentage of the population had some sort of creature sharing part of their minds, and Faranth only knew how many times he himself had burst into chuckles over something Queth or Brillia had done or told him about. Brillia peered at the twolegs who'd walked up in slight confusion. ...Was it male or female? She certainly couldn't tell! But the twoleg had bowed - so maybe male? - and what he(?) said had seemed like a compliment, so that was good too! L'cin, once again, had to bite his lip hard to keep his snickers from escaping.
L'cin felt something hit his head and looked up in confusion to see his grinning twin peeking over the edge of the stands. S'ren had decided to lay on the floor of the lowest tier to peek over the edge. She liked fire-lizards well enough, but there had been enough interest that she wasn't about to try to get one herself. Plus, anyone who got one of the hatchlings might feel linked to L'cin afterward, and maybe it would gain him some more friends. She waggled her fingers at her brother and winked, and he rolled his eyes back at her. It was good to have her here, even if she was a pain. Luckily he had looked away already when she decided to grin at K'vin and glance between him and L'cin, waggling her eyebrows suggestively.
Yet another person was coming now, and L'cin recognized her as Batavia. He smiled at the dragonhealer, noting her kit and hoping it wouldn't be needed. Brillia had decided she liked the twolegfemale when she was first laying her clutch, and she liked her more now that she was bow/curtsying to her. Trilling to the assembled people, she settled happily to watch as the Cookie Crumbles Egg rocked a bit harder and started to make little crunchnoises.

L'cin of brown Queth- a weyrling, one from the Surviving clutch. Which meant that he'd be a full rider, here soon enough. And he had a gold flitter? That was odd, for a weyrling, but it was hard to regulate who gets what firelizard when there's a clutch around. Everyone wants one- evidence being Toven here, right now, vying for a little creature. “Greetings to you, your Queth, and your queenly Brillia, then,” he said. Repressing a yawn, he nodded towards the brown dragon, made a small bow toward the queen, and returned the kid's grin before stepping back into the mass of other people.
Alright, so there weren't that many... but there were quite a few for a-- shells, how many eggs were there, any ways? Making a quick count, he determined that there were much too many people. Oh well. Worst case scenario, he still had Tovsk, although the brown might be disappointed if he found out that his handler tried for a baby flitter and didn't get one. Toven shrugged, watching the rocking and cracking of the eggs, waiting for the first hatchling to escape shell and reveal the beginning of the Hatching.
He wasn't sure what to expect out of this. He'd been to wher hatchings, but those fairly different than the dragon hatchings he'd attended, and those probably differed from firelizard hatching. Was it taking longer than dragon and wher hatchings, or was that just his innate impatience? Or maybe there was something wrong with the eggs? There had been an unhatched egg from Rozsk and Tovsk's clutch, much to both parties' disappointment... was it possible that all of these eggs were duds? Unlikely. But just in case, he wouldn't say anything.

Seated in the weyrhall, Raelwyn was nibbling on some fruit after chores, enjoying resting her legs after having been running around the infirmary for candlemarks. That was some difficult work, to be sure. Tydus was curled on the table beside her, gulping down pieces of meatroll Hisgirl fed him. While she had been scurrying around the place that smelled bad doing her weyr-work, the bronze had been one of those countless flits that watched over the lovelygold and her stupid-small-brown eggs, seated a good distance away from the stupid-brown himself. To say that Tydus did not like Toll would be quite the understatement of the century. To say he loathed him would be rather close to the truth. However, when Hisgirl had finally left the place that smelled bad, the bronze chirped his farewell to the lovelygold, anxious to see the candidate. Her decision to stop off at the weyrhall and eat only made it better.
So it was that Queth’s message found them, the girl bolting to her feet in surprise. A grin breaking across her features, the candidate waited only long enough for her bronze to hop to her shoulder before dashing to the hatching sands. Well, after stopping by the kitchen to get some fresh meat. Raelwyn was rather more interested in just seeing the adorable little ones than bonding to one of them, but…well, she wasn’t going to say no if a cute little flitter baby decided she would make a nice mindmate, either. Best to be prepared. Smiling at the thought, the harper approached, quickly dipping a curtsy to the little queen. “Greetings, Brillia, I wish your lovely clutch the best of luck and hope that you will allow me to stay.” Rael said softly, winking at L’cin as she backed away. She rather thought the gold would not like her standing presumptuously close. However, the permission to do so would be nice.
“What a cute clutch of eggs. Brillia and Toll must be proud.” The candidate said warmly, smiling at the brownrider. L’cin was a shy one, but she liked him, and hoped the feeling was mutual. Meanwhile, Tydus hopped off her shoulder, once more taking his place watching over the eggs as far away from the stupid-brown as he could. Hmph. One of the eggs was rocking quite violently already. It wouldn’t be long now.

Unlike many of the other new wherlings, Dastan was snoring away when the call came from Queth, causing the boy to nearly fall out of his cot. What?? Rubbing sleep from his eyes, the former holder glanced around, trying to bring himself to full consciousness. A hatching, a dragon had said. What hatching? Suddenly, Das straightened, the memory coming to mind. Oh yes, he had asked to stand at the flitter hatching L’cin’s little gold would have. Rubbing his face with his palm, the wherling sighed as he pulled on a tunic and some breeches, tugging his boots on while still half-asleep. It was only afternoon, and so Dassk was still completely out of it, curled up and deeply in slumber. Smiling tenderly at his wonderful blue, Dastan stepped quietly out of their room, not waking the young one.
Quickly, then, the boy approached the hatching sands, yawning profusely as he did. Coming before the gold, the wherling called to mind his hatching protocol and bowed to the small queen, smiling at her. “Hello, Brillia. Would you give me permission to stand for your lovely eggs?” Dastan asked, using the same manners he had on Rozsk. This may only be a flit hatching, but he knew the mother would be just as protective of her young as the wher was. Afterward, he straightened, smiling at the brownrider. “Hey, L’cin. I’m afraid you guys caught me asleep…would you mind if I borrowed some meat please?” Das asked, slightly sheepish. Ugh, he should have thought of that earlier! He then turned to wave and smile at Naoko and Meta, his fellow wherlings, as well as the Wherling Master. Faranth, these little pets sure were popular, weren’t they?

Valee smiled as she was invited forward and allowed to take meat. She eyed the gold curiously. She had seemed to perk up a bit as she approached. Valee thought about that for only a moment before she realized that the flitter probably loved the smell of the fish. That was good! That meant she might have a good chance! Who cared, then, if she was offending to the human sense of smell? That smell might assure her a firelizard!
She grinned widely. Maybe she'd walk away from thisHatching successful. She grabbed a bowl of the meat and stood as close as she dared. The gold obviously liked her smell, but she would surely still get angry if she got too close. She was seeing a pattern of very protective mothers. It was a smart idea, she supposed, with how small the Weyr currently was, but she was kind of wishing that some of the queens would lighten up.
---
Meta smiled wide. She was allowed to get some meat! Good. She would have gotten some herself, but Shards was she tired. She grabbed herself some and moved back into line. She smiled as Dastan approached. Another wherling! Toven was there too. She was almost hoping to see Mira too, so it would be most of her wherling class. Still, she felt that Metask would get along more with the two blues rather than the greens of the rest of the class. He didn't much like girls. She wondered, only slightly, what that said about her. Not that she cared very much.
But the Naoko girl was quiet, so she moved closer to Dastan, grinning and slinging an arm around his shoulder once he had gotten everything he needed. "Took ya long enough, you know?" she said, grinning, "With half the wherlings here, we should have a party!" To anyone who didn't know Meta, it would seem like she was flirting witht he other boy, but it couldn't be farther from the truth. If anything, the feelings she elt for the other could be described as Terran "bro" feelings. Indeed, the two could probably have a rad bromance. ((Sorry....I couldn't help it... >.<))

More twolegs had come, and Brillia hesitantly took her eyes off the cracking egg to look them over. The girlbonded of thedashingbronze who had still helped guard her clutch was here, with nicewords that Brillia could just barely catch the implied meaning of. After her was a boy who smelled like the odd smallerbigwings, but he gave bows and compliments too, as he should. Chirping imperiously, she let them come nearer, then focused back on her babies with a tiny hum rising from her throat. It was there time now, and the twolegs would be ignored.
L'cin smiled at Raelwyn when she complimented the clutch. Even if he wasn't entirely (or at all) responsible for it, he was as puffed-up proud as his little one. ...And then she mentioned Toll, and L'cin was forcibly reminded of the part his did play during the clutch's creation. He glanced quickly over at K'vin again, a blush tinting his cheeks again, then managed to refocus on Raelwyn. "Ah, yeah. She is, and, um, he's...barely left her side, so...I think he is..." He bit his lip and looked over to K'vin to supply a response, since he'd know Toll's feelings more than anyone.
Then Dastan walked up, and L'cin smiled back at him. He had been rather humorous when L'cin had spoken to him before, and L'cin was glad he'd shown up. He had some new knots on his shoulder, but L'cin was a little lost on what they signified. Oh! That's right, the wher clutch had hatched and Dastan had said he'd be standing. L'cin made a note to congratulate him after the Hatching. "Lucky. I was almost napping before the call came," he said while stifling a yawn. He motioned to the bucket of meat, saying, "Have at, it's what I brought it for. As much fun as they are, one nosy brown and one tiny life-ruler are enough for me," he said with a grin. He knew full well that if either of them weren't so focused on the events that he would be catching Fall for that.
And now the decorative lines on the Cookie Crumbles Egg were becoming real cracks, the shell shuddering away to reveal a tiny...ball...of patchy blue. Rolling forward a moment, a large wing finally unwrapped from the tiny fire-lizard, revealing an adorable little one with patches of a variety of blues all over. For a moment he looked around at all of the people gathered, then let out a tiny squeak of fright and skittered back and half-hid behind Brillia's tail with. It was only marginally effective, as his long wings stuck out behind him.
The Chocolate Chips Egg was rocking away, and the gradual sounds of scraping claws gave proof that it would hatch soon. Just then the Sprinkles Egg gave a shuddering crack, raining down tiny bits of shell. As the larger, supporting pieces fell away, the upside-down speckled green tumbled out with a confused chirp. Her eyes went wide as she stared around her. So much movement! Oh! This was exciting! Hihihi! Darting back and forth in a wobbly manner, she kept switching her focus between all the bigbigbigthings.
Brillia crooned lovingly at her first two children, and was pleased until they just sort of...sat there. Nono, they needed foodbits! And the twolegs had all the foodbits they could want! Lifting her tail just enough so that it couldn't be used to hide behind, she yapped at the Cookie Crumbles Blue to go forward. Reluctantly, he did...to hide behind the other eggs instead. The Sprinkles Green took much less encouragement. As soon as Brillia reminded her about the foodbits, she bee-lined for the first hand she saw. Olook, what yummyfood this one had! Scrambling into the twolegmale's hand, she began devouring the bits of meat. As she ate, she sent a few flashes of color to Zanalorin's mind with the feeling of hihihihihi!
((If bits of this are worded a little funny, blame it on the fact that I was writing it as I was watching my dad play Kane and Lynch... >.>;))

After a moment of catching her breath, Batavia saw Valee was waiting for an egg too. She moved to go stand by the other girl but wrinkled her nose when she got close. "Did you bring fish for the hatchlings or do you just smell like one?" she asked with a grin. Not that Batavia had room to talk; her perfume of choice lately seemed to be numbweed and redwort.
Her attention was soon diverted by the rocking of more eggs. Batavia slung the bag over her shoulders to across her back, getting it out of the way and leaving both hands free. What an odd colored blue. She didn’t remember seeing anything, dragon or firelizard, with that kind of patchy coloring. But he didn't seem to have any other problems, so it was probably just a harmless quirk. She had to grin as he kept trying to hide behind things. Hatchings always put her in a good mood, even if they always left her empty handed.

Watching L’cin, Mikovren allowed a second, sardonic smirk to flit over his lips at the boys’ response. No, Weyrlings’, he really should offer the young man his proper title, he admitted. Still, he knew there would be plenty of fodder for amusement and …gentle teasing of the young man. Casting a sideways glance to K’vin, of the green Asileth...? He watched the latter arrivals, absently realizing that yes, there were too many for the eggs. Ah well. A quick nod was given back to Batavia, in recognition, before he turned a gaze back to the small clutch.
His eyes lit in good humor at the little queen’s preening under their gazes and words, before folding himself down onto the sand, out of the way of his neighbors, but still close and able to study the eggs rather easily. Switching his gaze from egg to egg, the dragon healer watched curiously. He was intrigued that the one (which had moved first) was not the first, or even second to hatch. A snort, amused and soft, left the young mans lips as he watched the antics of the small patchy blue, and the darling little green.
Tracking the movements, the healer couldn’t help but smile at the blue trying to hide again, and made sure he had a few scraps of meat in hand should one of the fire lizards come his way. Watching the green, Miko nodded to himself as she apparently chose to bond to Zanalorin, amused. A green for the flirt that he was? Perfect match. He was sure that wouldn’t be an issue for the … proclivities that he knew the ex-DolphinCraft Hall candidate.

Well that there proved his theory wrong, and so Toven gladly kept his mouth shut (for once). The first hatchling was a blue, who looked like he had different colors patched all over him. What an... interesting creature. Who was, apparently, afraid of all the people surrounding him. The wherhandler sighed shortly- he probably should have stuck to whers. They weren't afraid of their own shadows-- at least, most of them weren't. His hiding technique wasn't even effective- although Brillia was bigger than him, he had a superb wingspan, and he didn't understand that cowering in fear involved keeping your body completely hidden.
If he was going to constantly be this scared, though, he'd learn.
Toven rolled his eyes, before his attention was drawn by another egg hatched, revealing a green who also lacked an even shading. She was the absolute opposite of her clutchbrother, excitedly looking around at all those gathered around her. She was obviously much too hyperactive for his tastes, however, as she couldn't seem to choose any one of them that she might like, until the gold urged her along. At which point she didn't take any time at all, but merely jumped upon the first one with food. That was actually... vaguely frightening. He shook his head, and his eyes landed on the large, gawky blue, who was now attempting to hide behind the unhatched eggs.
Well, that didn't seem like a good idea. He'd probably knock some over, or some such nonsense. Flitters might be small and useful, but they could have very limited sense. Very conveniently, he forgot the knocking and upsetting of eggs that went on at the wher hatching.
