Who: Asileth, Brillia, K'vin, L'cin, Queth, & Toll. :3 What: The...friendly outing. Not a date. When: Mid-afternoon. Where: From the barracks to a small cove on the northern side of the island. Warnings: Awkward. Lots of it. ♥
L'cin nervously bounced on the balls of his feet, chewing his lip and waiting for the kitchen worker to bring the last of the requested items. He smiled at her when she did, packing the last of it into the bag he'd brought. That should last the two of them (and two fire-lizards) for a few hours, at the least. He thanked the kitchen-girl, but she just grinned and winked. "Doncha have too much fun now!" she teased with a wiggle of her eyebrows.
L'cin just spluttered and turned red, making her laugh. He quickly turned tail and walked out of there as quickly as he could without flat-out running, her laughter echoing behind him. How can you have too much fun? L'cin mentally paused for a moment, sighing. 'She was being...perverted, love.' Ohhhh, so she was telling you not to- 'Yes,' he quickly interrupted.
I still don't see how one can have too much fun. 'It's very possible to have too much fun. Example: S'ren. Anyday. Ever.' L'cin grinned as he felt the mental chuckle and heard the audible rumble, turning his way into their shared weyr. Very soon, they'd be moving out of the Weyrling Barracks and into the one of the normal Rider weyrs along the cliff-face. Queth was starting to get too big for the Weyrling weyrs anyway, and he still had a little growing left to do.
"Alright, love, help me up?" Queth lowered himself and offered his foreleg as they'd been taught, letting L'cin lever himself up to tie down the last bag to his riding harness. He'd already packed a larger, blanket-like cloth tarp for them to eat on, some sunblock(though they were both probably tan enough they could go without and be fine), a small first aid kit, and some drying cloths. To say that he was excited was...a severe understatement. Queth had been telling him he was silly for the past couple weeks with the way he'd been almost obsessing. He was...trying really hard to make it not seem like more than a friendly outing. The picnic might be a bit much, but hey, they might be there swimming for awhile, and they were both growing boys, so... At least that was how he finally justified it. He'd just be...nonchalant about it, yeah.
The other step he'd taken to ensure that there was as little awkwardness as possible amused Queth even more: he hadn't told S'ren. He was certain his sister would have teased him to the ends of Pern and back. He might possibly have chickened out of setting it up, and he really didn't want that. He wanted this friendship to work. Or, rather, he hesitantly admitted to himself that maybe he wanted more than that, but that wasn't an option. Friendship was all he could ask.
Sighing and shaking those thoughts from his head, he made to dismount, but instead Queth started walking. L'cin laughed, resettling himself in the harness. I like walking. I don't do it as much now that we fly, Queth explained, earning him a chuckle and an affectionate slap on the neck. The large brown quickly made his way around the barracks to where Asileth and K'vin kept their weyr. Should I call Asileth? "You can, but I'm gonna go knock anyway." Queth nodded, lowering himself so that L'cin wouldn't get hurt when he jumped to the ground.
Hello, Asileth, Queth intoned happily. Mine and I are here to get you and Yours. L'cin's long legs quickly took him to the outer part of the weyr. He bowed politely to Asileth, then knocked on the wall. He'd sent Brillia to K'vin with a note once he'd figured out when they would finally have the same afternoon off from everything, saying when and to make sure he wore swim-clothes. The little gold had seemed rather affectionate toward the other boy since the Hatching, which made L'cin smile. She was as shy as he was, at times. Unsure if his knock would be heard, he called out as well. "Um, K'vin? It's L'cin. You ready to go?"

Everything was ready. Toll was present and Asileth and K‘vin were ready to go. The only problem was that they had probably been ready for what seemed like nearly forever. Or maybe K‘vin was just really impatient for L‘cin to arrive. Whatever the case, K‘vin had been pacing around their small weyr, unable to sit still, Asileth‘s tail had been twitching and Toll had been lazily flying around, for a fair amount of time.
When Asileth heard Queth‘s voice in her head she would have sighed if she was able to. Normally Asileth would have preferred that Queth and his human and the little gold would not go with them to their outing. When Hers had time off, he should use it to spend time with her and the little brown, not other people and dragons. But this time was different because Hers was really excited for this and he always got a nice feeling inside when he thought about Queth‘s. And if Hers liked Queth‘s so much, Asileth supposed she could also bear Queth, at least for a little while. Hello Queth. We are ready but K‘vinmine is afraid to come out because he likes yours so much. I don‘t understand it but I will wait for him.
Finally K‘vin could hear a knock. He stood shock still and tried to calm himself before going out to meet L‘cin. „I‘m almost ready.“ K‘vin called to answer L‘cin before closing his eyes and trying to calm himself down with deep breaths. This is not a date. This is not a date. L‘cin is just a friend. This is not a date. His chanting was of no use and he was nearly bursting in excitement. He only hoped that L‘cin would think that he was only excited to have the afternoon off. Finally he could take it no longer, he had to see L‘cin.
It was with great restraint that K‘vin managed to walk quickly, and not run, outside, Asileth and Toll following him. He didn‘t succeed in wiping the smile off his face though. „Hi, L‘cin. We‘re all ready now, where are we going?“ Huh, he wasn‘t a babbling incoherent mess. He actually managed talk normally to L‘cin for once. He was just too happy about getting to spend time with the brown weyrling so there was no room for awkwardness or shyness. And K‘vin had already decided that this outing wasn‘t going to be awkward, it was just going to be two friends, hanging out and talking. Simple really.

Queth perked at Asileth's words. Really? That is good then, because L'cinMine really likes Yours too. He doesn't think Yours likelikes him, though. He is so very silly sometimes. I don't see why anyone wouldn't like him! Yours seems nice too from what your little brown says, he babbled cheerily. I look forward to getting to play with you too, today. Maybe we can get Ours to scrub us after we swim! He was a friendly little (big) thing, and didn't notice a bit if Asileth was perhaps not as excited as he was.
L'cin returned K'vin's smile when the other boy walked outside. Good, this was good. He didn't seem as reluctant as he had when L'cin first suggested it! Maybe he was just reminded too much of The Incident at the time because of the Hatching. The Incident that L'cin was staunchly not going to think about anymore, thankyouverymuch. He was grateful his skin was at least tan enough to hide the hint of blush he knew was trying to creep onto his face.
"Hi, K'vin," he returned, hoping that it sounded more casual than shy. "Well, you might know of the beach a little further north along the coastline just past the Crystal Caves? A few hundred meters past that is a little cove Queth and I found that has a really neat lagoon. Small enough for almost no waves, but large enough for the two of them to swim around still," he said, nodding to the two dragons. "It sounds far, but it really isn't when you're on dragonwing and not walking.
"I'll admit that I'm not certain how well Asileth fares in the air just yet," he admitted sheepishly, ruffling the blond spikes at the back of his head with his fingers. "I'm sure she'll be lovely, but I know it takes a while for some to really get their bearings or endurance. There's three routes. Either directly there, which takes us up over the trees and doesn't provide any really good landing spots along the way, but it's the quickest; up over the caves, which is slower, but we can land on the rocky areas if we need; or around the coastline, which is slow but beautiful, but there's a lot of wind off the ocean that could make flying a little unsteady." He ticked off the options on his fingers as he listed them. Grinning, he held out the hand with the three lifted fingers to K'vin and wiggled them. "Your pick." It wasn't until after he had extended his hand that he was sorta-kinda inviting K'vin to grab his hand. Oops. Too late now.

Asileth was torn between liking Queth, because Hers liked Queth‘s, and being annoyed by him. For a brown he was very talkative. But this like between theirs was a topic she wanted to explore, annoying dragon or not. I don‘t know if Mine likeslikes yours. He likes Cryth‘s and Calzanth‘s especially much but when he thinks about Yours I know he likes him too but he also feels funny about Yours. Funny in a good way, but still funny. She decided to not acknowledge a part of what Queth had said. She would see how much she liked him later, but at the moment Asileth was really unsure about the brown. He was not like her favoritebrown.
L‘cin was talking and K‘vin... wasn‘t listening. He couldn‘t help it if L‘cin looked so cute when he was sheepish that K‘vin couldn‘t concentrate on what he was saying. Something about three routes? The green weyrling recovered just in time to listen to the last choice that L‘cin gave him. And then he was holding out his hand? K‘vin stopped breathing for a while and stood frozen to the spot. Could it be that he had somehow read the signs wrong and L‘cin actually liked him the way that K‘vin liked L‘cin? Deciding to take a giant leap of faith, K‘vin moved forward to take L‘cin‘s hand, instantly reminded of when he had last touched the boy. „The coastline sounds beautiful,“ K‘vin said in a small voice. He was nearly exploding in fear that L‘cin would be disgusted with him and call off their outing, but he couldn‘t bring himself to let go. It felt so nice to be connected to L‘cin.

Ohhh, okay. Mine likes lots of people, like Eneth's and Dalisth's and Olloth's and the humanHealer lady. Feynth's is his clutchsibling, so he likes her too. Usually. I know Mine likelikes Yours, though. He admitted it to me, he said and preened. It was an accomplishment! I would just ask Yours if he likelikes Mine, but I think Mine might faint if I did. He gave a little rumble of draconic laughter, which would have worried L'cin if he had been paying attention.
Or if he could pay attention.
Because K'vin had gone ahead and just grabbed all of his fingers and it was almost like he was holding his hand and then the way he said his choice was just- Let's just say that L'cin was having some concentration issues. There was that hope, welling again, seemingly physically copied by the rising of color suffusing his cheeks. Time for his own little leap of faith, he bit his lip and curled his fingers around K'vin's, smiling as his thumb just barely rubbed a knuckle. "I...okay. We'll...go that way then," he said distractedly. The fact that he'd need to let go so K'vin could fly on Asileth was floating off in his peripheral thoughts, blissfully ignored.

Well did that big brown think that he had a better relationship with His than Asileth had with Hers?! A distant memory resurfaced and Asileth grew smug. I also know that Mine likeslikes Yours! He wants to cuddle with Yours but thinks that Yours doesn‘t want to cuddle with him. Satisfied that she had shown her worth, Asileth began to get impatient. Hers was just standing there, doing nothing except holding that boy‘s hand. Asileth walked over to them and impatiently bumped her head against Hers. Miiiiiiiiine, can we leave now. I want to go swimming.
Oh wow. Just wow. L‘cin... had not only not fled, screaming, but had continued to hold K‘vin‘s hand. It was so nice to just stand there, being this close to L‘cin, and even physically touching him. He couldn‘t even believe that this was happening, that L‘cin liked him too. This moment was probably the single best moment of K‘vin‘s life. A tiny doubt surfaced in K‘vin‘s mind that maybe holding hands was just a friendly gesture, but the rational part of his brain won out. It seemed like L‘cin actually liked him back. Which was amazing. Oh, but they were going somewhere? And Asileth... was impatient. „We should go, Asileth wants to go take a bath,“ K‘vin said breathlessly before reluctantly letting go of L‘cin‘s hand to mount Asileth.

Queth tilted his head slightly. Asileth had seemed a little grumpy, but then she was happy again. Or smug, rather. Had he misspoken to make her grumpy? He tried to retrace his words but nothing stood out there. Maybe it was a female thing? His was always saying that females were so hard to figure out. Or, oh! Maybe it just took her a moment to remember Hers saying the he likeliked His and that made her grumpy. And then smug. ...It made perfect sense! ...Mostly. ...Really. But he was happy at the news that Hers did indeed likelike his, and wanted to cuddle with him. That was good! I'm glad, then, he replied, a bit calmer, though his mindvoice was filled with a languid contentedness.
L'cin laughed a little when Asileth started nudging K'vin. He couldn't hear her, but he rather guessed what she was going on about before K'vin spoke. He was very reluctant to let go, but K'vin was pulling away to mount up on his dragon. L'cin let go as well, blushing away, then walked awkwardly backwards toward Queth. "...Yeah, should go." Misjudging the distance, he ended up running right into the brown's side as he turned. Somewhat mortified, he mounted up and rather hoped K'vin hadn't seen that. It was bad enough when Queth rumbled a laugh at him. 'You tell S'ren or Feynth and no stories for a week.' You are cruel, Mine. Really, you are.
"Just follow us, then, and have Asileth tell Queth if she needs to rest or get her bearings," he managed to call over clearly. Brillia swooped in to curl up just in front of L'cin, hanging onto the riding straps there. L'cin grinned down at her, then tied himself in. Queth walked his way over to the ledge, then tipped himself over and flared out his wings to catch the wind. 'Careful, love. Your side is still a bit hurt. Don't overdo it.' I won't. It feels fine now. Just achy. Don't worry, love, I'll be careful, Queth reassured, sending affection back along their bond.
Sweeping across the Weyr, he banked left and set off along the coast. L'cin gave a brief shudder as he squinted against the wind, remembering from Queth's eyes the image of these cliffs as he Chased Trith on that fateful day. Shaking his head to rid it of the morbid memory before Queth could catch onto it, he decided that today would be a new memory to overlap it. K'vin, quite possibly, liked him back, and now he and Asileth were following he and Queth to spend the afternoon at their special little cove. Heart constricted in both happiness and panic, he laughed into the wind. This was a good day already, and the outing had only just begun!

((*Hides under a rock* My last post in this thread was over a month ago! Yikes :/ And this is one of my favorite threads ever too!))
It warmed K‘vin‘s heart that L‘cin seemed as reluctant to let go. That tiny voice in his brain that had told him that L‘cin had only continued to hold his hand because he didn‘t want to seem rude and let go, disappeared and K‘vin was left with a feeling that could only be explained as ‘fluffy‘. His palms were a little sweaty and his heart was beating faster than usual, but despite that, this fluffy feeling felt good. K‘vin giggled a little when L‘cin ran into Queth and even allowed himself to call him ‘cute‘ in his head, K‘vin had decided that ‘cute‘ was definitely a word that applied to L‘cin, even if he was a boy.
Asileth ended up needing to rest once, grudgingly informing Queth before resting for a short while. It annoyed her that she wasn‘t as strong as the brown and couldn‘t make the trip in one go, but she was careful to not let Hers know, because the green sensed that this day was special for him and she certainly didn‘t want to do anything to destroy Hers good mood.
When they finally got there it was hard to tell who was more relieved, Asileth or K‘vin. K‘vin because he longed to talk to L‘cin and stare at him and it was impossible to do so while flying. He really, really, really wanted to know where this was going. Asileth because she was finally there and if she was honest to herself the trip had been a little hard. So she just wanted to have a good soak already in the ocean! So when they landed, she didn‘t give Hers any time to take the beautiful spot in and immediately commanded K‘vin to remove everything from her now. She was going to take a bath. K‘vin simply laughed good naturedly and did as she wished before turning his attention to L‘cin. „This place... Is really something.“ And it was. Nice and quiet and as beautiful as the rest of the island. „I never knew this existed, do people come here often?“ He really hoped they didn‘t, he wanted L‘cin all for himself for a little while at least.
