Character:
Name: Vladisyana
Age:18
Gender:Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Lady Holder in Training, Trader Craft
Description:
Fire and ice made whole, Vladisyana shows that she is both the daughter of an esteemed Lord Holder and a free-spirited Trader with ease. An intelligent and measuring gaze is the first warning anyone is given, for her fire sparks there overtly, leaving her excitement and love of the world plain to all who see her. Deep and bright blue eyes dance beneath thick black brows, tilted slightly and with tiny laugh-crinkles at the corners hinting at an unflagging spirit.
A pert, strong nose with a definite arch lays beneath the ever-challenging gaze, leading down to heavy, full lips that are often quirked at one-side in a half smile which is easily teased to a full one or a laugh, which are softly red more than pink, often drawing the gazes of young men.
Slim, somewhat oblong rather than rounded ears are often half hidden behind a thick mess of jet-black, curled hair that falls in a heavy wave down to the mid back of this 5 foot, 9 inches tall young woman, often pinned with a silver-and-bead butterfly to keep it out of her face. What was pale skin naturally has been tanned lightly to a soft golden brown by the sun, and her clothing choices often accent what is quite a neat frame.
Dancing and running, riding and fencing, have given Syana a lithe body, showing muscle less than using it, and her trim form is a bit of pride, though she is not one to worry over beauty. A few scars show over her hands and arms when not covered from the fencing classes and scrambling over the hills with her Trader kin, as does one along her shoulder from a tumble out of a cart.
Personality:
Strong willed, stubborn, and determined are some of the kinder phrases most often used in connotation with Syana. Other would call her pig headed, unbending, and the like. Still, all are correct, since Syana has always been one to know both what she wants, and how to get it, or how to avoid what she is against. That force of personality makes her a shrewd bargainer and trader, and has helped her keep her freedom despite Lords wanting her hand in marriage for themselves or their sons.
Though not cruel, Syana can be somewhat manipulative, as she must think quickly and know how others do so to bargain effectively. However, she never uses that to harm others, though she does love to win a debate. That force of mind also aids her in training her beloved dogs, and choosing her own path in life.
Not one who is overly patient, Syana cannot stand to be trapped inside for long, nor to work at womanly arts either, and her quick temper has gotten her into trouble more than once with others. She has little patience for fools, and has more than made that clear in the past, though children are loved as are animals.
However, Syana does care, if people both to put up with her prickly exterior, and can be quite fun loving. She adores a good joke, and loves to dance and ride, seeking people who can keep up with her. Her joy at life and gaiety are a blessing, though they also allow her to flirt without commitment, and keep people at arms length as needed.
The only people dear to her heart are her family, and Haverisen is the closest of all. Some say they should have been twins with their similar tastes and loves, and he is the first she turns to in problems, and the person she loves most in this world. While she has room in her heart for others, she also has yet to find someone she considers worthy of letting in that far.
History:
Born the third child of Benden’s Lord Holder, Vladisyana often seemed to be a twin to her elder brother. A sprightly child who entered the world at Summer’s End, Syana was from birth rather personable, and held both her father and two elder brothers in thrall. While her mother was a Trader, who had caught her father’s eye before ascension to Lord, she was quite well versed in the duties of a Lady Holder, and reared her daughter in both worlds with the Lord’s blessings.
At her mother’s knee, Syana grew up learning everything both as a lady in training, and as a Trader that she would need, with tutors for classes instead of attending a Hall. Her favorite times were learning how to barter and manage goods with her Trader cousins, where she earned sweets or new cloth as rewards for doing well, and the physical activities tutors she had begged, bullied, and bargained her way into at 8 years old. (With a father wrapped around her little fingers, though, it wasn’t too hard. )
Those lessons were ones taken with the younger of her older brothers, Haverisen, and included riding, the arts of dancing and fencing (more of the former and less of the latter per her choice) and the training of their hunting dogs. Syana grew to love dancing, and soon added time with the Runner Crafts who visited to stretch her legs, finding a love in pure physical activity that evaded her when tasked with the more ‘womanly’ arts.
By the time she was twelve, Vladisyana had several more younger sisters, and one younger brother on whom she doted, and had been given approval to spend her thirteenth and fourteenth years traveling with the Traders she called kin, and her brother. Since both were younger, and had trained well, their parents bid them farewell for that time, as long as they kept up their studies in Hold management as needed.
Those two years brought a further passion of exploration to the young siblings, and Vladisyana picked up a ‘mix’ litter of a newer breed of canine near the end to return to Benden Hold with, including several males and females to further the breed. She had spent her time well, and at the start, had set out with several marks and a few of her arts to sell (few due to her distaste of sitting still long), and had returned several marks richer, and with increased skills in barter. Most of that richness was spent on the bright, fancifully colored and designed garb she preferred to wear when not in the kennels or outside, to the laughing despair of her family at the Hold.
While with her Trader kin, Syana had taken to wearing headscarves of brightly woven fabrics, and sashes much the same, both for the usefulness and the ‘flashy’-ness, which she was able to successfully bargain was a fine thing in bargaining itself, as it distracted and allowed for false assumptions. The dogs she found were a sticking point in that, with their high shoulders, deep chests, short, tough fur, and heavy heads. She’d successfully bargained puppies from several litters into one, and it may have cost her most her earnings, but it was still far less than the person had wanted to pay!
Returned from her trip, Syana was once again drawn into the practical aspects of being a Lady Holder at some future point, and found her hours split between working the dogs she had returned, whom she adored, and had proven quite useful in hunts, and the studies to be a well-respected woman in their society. Still, Syana despaired of being tied to a Lord whom she couldn’t stand, and even after four years, had yet to agree with her parents on a marriage.
Fortunately, her brothers backed her choices, pointing out that caging her would be to break her spirit, inherited from her family. Agreeable to other options, the family has recently been trying to decide if she should be apprenticed, even late, to a Hall, or let to roam with her much loved trader kindred. Aware of the spirit herself, her mother is the least concerned, knowing that as she herself did, her children will likely forge their own ways in the world.
In the past months since Turn’s End, one of Syana’s bitches gave birth to a new litter, and she has picked out one to raise and keep as entirely hers of that, as well as a male from a separate whelping. Both pups are sturdy and well formed, and highly personable as she’s training them, a dark wheat-red tone with black points. They are her current project and love.
Fun Facts:
~Loves her trader kin, and has learned many of their skills to the point of being considered one of them at a Journeyman level.
~Owns two of her special breed of dogs that were designed for hunting felines and guarding their families, and trains them herself.
~Is extremely close to her brother Haverisen.
~Too wild to marry a ‘proper’ lord and settle down.
~Does some needle-craft, but can’t sit still long enough most times.
~Loves to ride and to run, and adores dancing like nothing else.
Vladisyana’s Dogs:
Bitch: Nuera
Nuera is about half a year old, as large and sturdy as Noctis, though a bit longer than him, and has no white to mar her slightly lighter wheat-red coat. She bears the same black points as he though, and both pups have the trademark curling whorls of fur from their breed, along with the backwards ridge of fur along their spines.
Male: Noctis
The same age as Nuera, he is from an entirely different line, picked so as to allow for future breedings. The largest of his little, Noctis has thick, sturdy legs and a long tail, with a deep coat of burnished coppery red. Black denotes his ears, muzzle, and paws, just as Nuera, though he bears a hint of white on the back of one leg.
