Character:
Name: Haverisen
Age: 20, Fall: Mid
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Lord Holder in Training, Trader
Description:
Standing at a height that makes a heavy riding horse necessary just because of his long legs, Haverisen pushes just a centimeter shy of 6’, 3” tall. Like his mother, younger brother, and Vladisyana, the height comes with a lithe build, and dark features with pale skin if not tanned. Of course, that doesn’t really do a man justice, which, at twenty, Haverisen is now.
Those long legs provide Ver with an easy grace that has been aided from his training both in fine arts his father considered necessary, and running with his sister and the traders for years. A love of dancing that is shared with Vladisyana has certainly helped this, and long hours of studying fencing and working in the fields to learn about his people have added a slight bulk to his shoulders while toning the rest of his form neatly.
Ver has the same dark, expressive eyes set at a slight angle as his sister, under heavy black brows, which perch over a rather strong roman nose. It’s a bit too distinct to make him more than handsome, or charming, unfortunately, as are the lips, which though showing good humor, are somewhat thin. His skin is more weathered and tanned than his sister, since more of his tutoring took place outdoors, though, leaving him with sun-kissed honey toned skin instead of the pallor.
Haverisen has several more scars than his sister, though let that not be a comment on their personalities. His hands and wrists are flecked with fine white lines from his weapons-training, and he has several scars acrost his ribs from before he learned to properly block cuts there, though they are rather smaller. A larger, oddly spiked scar is across his left hip and down over his buttock, from when his runner threw him into a fence, which is still embarrassing for the poor guy.
With the curled, heavy black hair that runs in his family, Ver makes a rather attractive, if not classically so, picture, with curled locks just brushing high cheekbones and framing a firm, stubborn jaw and mouth. The hair is just barely long enough to tie back into a –very- short tail, though he usually leaves it to hang loose at his face, preferring the feel of the wind through it when riding or running.
Personality:
Easy going to the core, Ver more often faces challenges and problems with a slight smile and easy manner. Very little ruffles his feathers, and that usually comes down to his family being in danger when it does, or an animal. More prone to jokes and laughter, the young man has been heavily influenced by his free-spirited Trader kin, and his younger sister especially to enjoy everything that the world has to offer.
Still, life isn’t all fun and games, and being what and who he is, Haverisen has had a deep sense of duty, loyalty, and honor instilled from a young age. This comes out especially in his responsibilities, no matter what they are nor whom they are to, and in protecting his family. Syana is the most important to him, and has been his entire life. She was his first baby sister, and the escapades they’ve both shared and will share have created a strong, filial love betwixt the two.
Yet the rest of his family is loved as well, despite there being an empty part held oft for the one person Haverisen hopes to fall in love with, should he ever meet a one, that is. He’s grown up knowing he’d have some say in his marriage were he to have one, and hoped always to find a girl who would be friend as well as partner in duties, and still somewhat longs for that even as he’s leaning towards a life on the road with his kin.
That love spills over into a caring protection of people under his command at the Hold, or when in transit with the traders, and animals too. While not as adoring of the dogs his sister prefers, Haverisen is quite smitten with both horses and hunting birds, though he has little use for wherries aside from food and leather.
Raised proper, Haverisen both can move about in the Lord Holder circles or lower, though he prefers to meld into the more common crowds, since his father taught him to judge a man not by his rank but by his deeds. He has often found a love of drinking and dancing when doing such, and carried many a tale back to his kin from those escapades.
Tolerant of much, Haverisen is really the ice to Vladisyana’s fire, which makes the duo a perfect team for their chosen life as Traders with their kin, and other other project that comes before them. This translates to fighting as well, and blood and suffering do not bother him, especially not after having to work his kin to shelter the caravan in Fall, or his training in fighting under his father’s orders. Thankfully, though, this also means that Haverisen has little temper, and usually prefers to use words to solve an issue at hand, since he views violence as a last resort.
History:
The second son of the Lord Holder of Benden, Haverisen was born in early Fall, shortly before a harvest festival. The younger of the two, he was less expected to inherit, but still trained from birth for the duties, in case of unforeseeable events, and because the Holder felt his sons (and daughters) needed to know for their own sakes, and should be kept busy rather than be allowed to languish or laze about pointlessly. This stemmed in part from their mother, who had been a Trader, and herself kept rather busy.
The birth of his first sister at age two left a big impact on Ver, and he instantly was just as wrapped up in her little finger as his father, and devoted most of his time to being the big-protective-brother for her, making sure of her safety and happiness, first childishly, then stronger as he grew older despite the advent of (eventual) further siblings.
Aside from his lessons as a potential Lord Holder, Ver was also given to tutoring in basic skills, and in physical activities his father thought proper, while his mother and her people taught him about the Traders and those skills from the time he could walk and talk. He loved the dancing and riding most, and was passable at fighting, though it really wasn’t something he enjoyed.
Instead, it became obvious that Haverisen excelled at negotiations, even as a child, when he would bargain his way into trips, later bedtimes, treats, and out of lessons he abhorred-such as bookkeeping, which he still struggles with to this day. Those skills were encouraged, however, as negotiations played a large part in being a Lord Holder, and in his mother’s people, should he chose that path when adult.
The lessons and his sister were most of Ver’s life growing up, and when he was ten, she joined them after a joint project of theirs which proved she was as capable as he and their eldest sibling, who was set to inherit. Once more, when she was twelve, they aided each other in convincing their families to allow them to spend two years with the traders, straight, rather than off seasons when they came by.
Those two years polished both their skills, and Ver learned more about managing people than he ever had in the Hold, working day in and out to turn a profit with his kin, and somehow stay abreast of news, goods, and money. Though this aided him somewhat, he never grew comfortable with budgets, preferring to leave that to others to settle once the day was done. Like Syana, Ver grew to favor wearing a dark base clothing during that time, with bright, flashy scarves at his waist, never head, to hang things from.
More, while she bargained for dogs, Ver bargained for horses, intent on improving Benden’s stock for breeding, using money his father had sent for that purpose. The animals were of medium weight, with gentle feathering, and ranged in color, though all were spirited but gentle, willing workers, and he adored them as he did all animals. Negotiating for a small herd-thanks to his father’s coin, which was sent back to Benden, took much of his skill, and like his sister’s negotiations over dogs, was an unofficial test of his Trader abilities.
Upon returning to Benden, Haverisen once more went back to work studying with his elder brother and father about the Stewardship of a Hold, while overseeing the stock as his personal project. He was given back to the tutors in his spare time, as well, and grew to enjoy knowing that while he could lead the Hold should something happen to his elder brother, he had no need, and found himself often enjoying the company of the minor holder women, though he was careful never to play with a person’s heart, as that sort of cruelty was not possible for him.
The only potential trouble was in helping Syana avoid a marriage that was unwanted on occasion, and trying to help her decide what to do with her future. He was in favor of returning to the Traders for another year or two, given their close ties to them and love of the road.
