Character:
Name: Raelwyn
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Weyrling
Description: Born in the Harper Hall, Raelwyn has an unsurprisingly lithe body that was inherited from her beautiful mother. In appearance, she is a slim but well-built girl, and though she is far from heavy or robust, she does have enough weight on her to not be too terribly delicate. At the unimpressive height of 5’4”, the candidate would not hold a very strong demeanor if not for her determined presence. Her figure is not what one would call willowy, but she is built nimble, almost like a feline. Certainly, she may have subtle curves, but she isn’t about to attract any attention for her body alone. Her arms and legs are slightly petite, but turns of chores and menial labor have given an understated muscle under her smooth skin. That is not to say that she is very strong, because she’s not, but she could perhaps hide more strength than one would assume upon first glance. Her stomach is flat and smooth from the labor and diet of a candidate, and her skin is now rather evenly tanned, as she has been in the South for over a turn now.
Despite her rather average body, there are a few things the harper can claim for her beauty, and one is certainly her eyes. It has been said by several of her friends that they are her best feature, and Raelwyn tends to agree. Bright and deep, her eyes are oval-shaped, surrounded by a fringe of long lashes the color of good klah. An attractive emerald in hue, her irises are the color of a rich forest, clear and open to all who bother to look. Appearing deep and wise beyond her turns, the girl’s gaze is the one thing she truly prides herself on, as far as her physical traits go. The candidate’s face is slightly delicate but very slim, with a gentle, small chin and petite nose. She is cute, but certainly not beautiful, and the only thing truly striking about her are those lovely eyes. Her hair is a bit long and holds a slight wave to it, curling slightly at the bottoms so it avoids appearing overly plain. A dark honey in color, Raelwyn’s hair dances between brown and blonde, darkening and lightening depending how much time she spends in the sun.
Though she is far from arrogant, Raelwyn does have her own small amount of vanity, and so always makes sure she appears neat and clean. Generally favoring sleeveless tops and light skirts, the harper is rarely ever seen in pants or shorts. However, she does have a few pairs just in case labor or weather calls for it, but otherwise you will always see this girl in a calf-length skirt. She also has a couple of dresses for hatching feasts and gathers, which she bought recently with her best friend L'mar. Raelwyn’s favorite colors are harper blue and a deep green that matches her eyes, and so she tends to stick to those colors if she can. She also loves sandals.
For a girl who has spent the last four turns in labor and chores every day, Raelwyn looks great, considering. She has a good complexion, really, with only a sprinkling of freckles along her nose and cheeks that do not stand out terribly much. Her face is unmarked by scars, and there are only two noticeable ones on her whole body. One rests upon her left hand, a shiny white line that runs diagonally from her middle knuckle to her wrist. She was cutting some tubers when a few errant children ran through the kitchen, and the last one rammed into her full-throttle and caused the knife to slip. The other is on her ankle, also the left side, on the inside of her leg. It is five inches long, pearly white, and ridged. Rael has never told anyone how she earned it, but she remembers it well. It happened only a few sevendays after arriving at Fort Weyr, when she happened upon two young felines fighting behind the candidate barracks. She tried to break it up, and succeeded, though she now has the mark to show for it. It was both comical but odd, and Raelwyn has kept that to herself.
Personality: Vibrant and friendly, Raelwyn is one of the most exceedingly outgoing individuals you will ever meet. She adores meeting new people and making new friends, and often enjoys sitting in the weyrhall for candlemarks just approaching those she does not know. As she is a harper through and through, the girl is rather charismatic, holding a certain finesse and talent for dealing with social situations. Simply put, it’s hard not to like her, quite generally. She always puts on a smile for those around her, despite any pains or sadness she may hold within, and tends to put the happiness of others before her own. Under her smiles and laughter there is a genuinely compassionate heart, a woman who hates to see others in pain and will do whatever she can to ease it. With a warm and gentle spirit, one would think Raelwyn to be a pushover, but that could not be further from the truth. The harper is a kind-hearted girl who is unflinchingly polite no matter the circumstances, but under that is an unmoving determination that could remind one of the most stubborn draybeast there is.
Armed with an admirable tenacity, the girl has an inner endurance that will not allow her to give up. When she sets her mind to something, Raelwyn never allows herself to falter, to even think for a moment that she will fail. She sets her eyes upon her goal, striving for her ambitions and is quite adamant about accomplishing them. Does she think she can fix the world? No, not exactly, but anything the harper decides to do, she will see to the end. In fact, this driven nature of hers could almost be labeled as personal pride, and is both one of her best traits and yet her fatal flaw. This stubborn confidence does indeed push her to accomplish difficult things, and yet it also has the capacity to destroy her should she set herself to ambitions that are beyond her power to accomplish. Yet, Raelwyn never allows her personality or her self-assurance to be shaken, always somehow thinking that she will find a way. It is both infuriating and encouraging, a trait that her friends likely hate yet love about this candidate.
With a rather concrete view of the world about her, the harper is adamant and passionate about her beliefs, and will not allow anyone to alter her own vision of what is right. With deep convictions and a drive that gives her the strength to ignore adversities, this candidate knows who she is, inside and out, and is comfortable in her own skin. No one can pressure her to do something she feels is wrong, as she is highly self-aware, and her own beliefs will not be swayed. Raelwyn is quite familiar with her own strengths and weaknesses, unashamed of both, and accepts who she is. Genuinely authentic, she will never try to be someone she isn’t just to please someone else. Honest to a fault, the harper is almost infuriatingly straight-laced and detests lies, rarely telling even small ones. There are times when a white lie is needed of course, (no those pants don’t make you look fat), but she loathes falsehoods. This stark view lends her an unflinching personality.
Organized and instilled with a need for order in her life, Raelwyn cannot stand to watch things around her fall into chaos or disarray. Leadership is needed is almost everything, and she will see to it that it is given, whether she is the one to do it or not. The candidate is quite comfortable following orders from her seniors, falling into a pattern of work easily with a sense of responsibility that some would consider boring, but if there are none to lead, then she will do it herself. With an unmistakably strong self-discipline, the girl is also quite intelligent, blessed with a quick mind that was cultivated during her turns as a harper. Raelwyn posses the ability to process rapidly and commit information to memory rather easily, proving that she is viciously clever under her cheerful nature. In fact, this leads to another of her strongest flaws, a tendency to absolutely loathe being incorrect. The candidate is rather proud of her intellect, and when she has been proven wrong, it absolutely bugs her to no end. She will tend to obsess about it for a time, going over the circumstances again and again in her mind to discover where she miscalculated and how to avoid ever doing so again.
Utterly faithful to those she calls friend, Raelwyn will take any risk necessary for their happiness. She will not allow anyone to mistreat those dear to her, and will do what she must for their good. Courageous, there is little that frightens this girl, and she will stand in the face of anything or anyone that threatens what she holds dear. She does have fear of course, there are few who do not, but she is brave in the face of it, standing tall despite her trepidation. Because of this, the harper has little tolerance for cowardice or selfish individuals, and tends to hold a contempt for anyone who holds these qualities. This could be considered rather self-righteous of her, as she is far from perfect herself, but she views these traits as far more disgusting than any of her own flaws.
Possessing strongly dedicated and loyal tendencies, Raelwyn is a passionately devoted friend to be counted on through whatever trials you face. Somewhat matronly, the girl is a very nurturing and warm personality, always sweet and gentle with those who need her. Rather mature, the harper tends to be left out of any horseplay or mischief those her age tends to create, but her kind nature still brings her many friends who love her. Still, despite this, she is a genuinely enthusiastic personality, the kind of woman that puts her heart and soul into whatever she is doing. New experiences excite her, and she enjoys trying new things. In spite of her own immovable beliefs, Raelwyn is also quite accepting of others, hardly ever judgmental except in the regards of cowardice and selfishness. She would never speak ill of what others believe or desire, and it is in her nature to accept everything about another individual. Overall, Raelwyn is a very kind-hearted person with an inner strength and stubbornness that will not be shaken. Cheerful and outgoing, she loves to have fun, but will always be the level-headed voice of reason.
History: To know Raelwyn’s true history, one must travel quite a few turns back to a bronzerider leading a Search for candidates at the Harper Hall. He was a wingleader, a man who took charge and expected to have his orders followed. His name is unknown, and neither Rael nor her father knows of this man. However, it is this unnamed bronzer that is the candidate’s grandfather. A journeywoman caught his eye, but he returned to the Weyr the next morning with his candidates and left her to fend for herself. She bore Revarrin, and told him his father was another Journeyman that was no longer with them. He has never been told differently.
Revarrin, a good Harper in his own right, fell in love with a minor cotholder’s daughter named Evelyn, and they were quickly married. So quickly, in fact, some whispered behind their backs. Revarrin and Evelyn spent much of their time travelling, until she found herself with child, at which point they settled in a Hold where Rev could be paid for his services. He never really had time for his children, however, between fawning over Evelyn and putting his Harper talents to use, and Eve never made an effort with them either.
Rael, along with her siblings and other numerous children at the Hold, were cared for by a nanny. She never really got to know her parents that well. Her sisters, being older than her by several turns, were also never close to her. She did, of course, run into them occasionally after she got old enough to wander about a bit, but they only made idle conversation and never made any attempt to be any family to her. However, there soon came a day when they decided to return to the Harper Hall, and it was here Raelwyn, along with her brother Elvin, were discovered to be potential Harpers.
Raelwyn happily took to her new craft, as she was a very sharp mind, and liked to be challenged. Her voice was lovely, and she had a wonderful habit of memorizing lines quickly. She was not able to study her new craft long, however, for as the call went out for candidates, the girl was chosen to stand at Fort Weyr. The girl was absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as a candidate. Rael took to her studies with religious fervor, and she was found to possess a quick mind and sharp memory, a testament to her Harper skills. All those who took her under their tutelage were pleased with her readiness to learn and work, and though she never really enjoyed her chores, she did those without complaint as well. After all, if she Impressed, just keeping the dragon’s hide cleaned and oiled would be a chore all on it’s own.
It was here at Fort her grandfather’s blood began to show through. Although Raelwyn has characteristics of her parents, she has undoubtedly taken far more from her grandsire than either Revarrin or Evelyn. She had an instinct about dragons, and an inherent love and adoration of them that could not be found in the rest of her family. The candidate spent her evening free time after lessons and chores in the weyrbowl, hoping to find riders or weyrlings who would allow her to help them bathe their dragons. However, a half-turn ago, she was horrified to hear about the occurrences at Silver Cove, and wanted to be able to help the new Cerulean Weyr all she could. Rael volunteered to go as a transfer candidate, and has since been aiding the new weyr as she can.
At Cerulean, the girl adjusted to her new life as well as one could be expected to, finally getting used to the weather change and the foreign place. She is still settling in, really, since although the weyr is new, the occupants are still Silver Cove’ers and have known each other longer than she. Raelwyn is content, though, and is continuing well with her candidate studies. She also brought her flute with her, the one possession she can claim and the only instrument she can boast knowledge of, and so can also be found in the weyrhall or by the lake playing. If any asks, she is happy to perform.
Fun Facts: Raelwyn loves Tydus, singing, swimming, and playing her flute. She doesn’t mind the spotlight but never asks to be the center of attention. Her favorite food is broiled fish and her favored drink, redfruit juice. Rael has two necklaces she loves but never wears them about the weyr. She hates tunnelsnakes and is terrified to death of them, and rodents of any sort, and Ty is very good at chasing rodents away. The candidate’s favorite colors are green and blue.
Bonded Critter(s):
Type: Dragon
Name: Ellenath
Color: Gold (FFA700)
Age: 3 Months (Mid-Summer)
Hatching Info: 14th out of the Jasmine Egg, Tasseography Clutch, Trith’s by Jorguth.
Telekinetic Rating: 93
Bonuses/Minuses: (Base Roll 88) + (Gold +0) + (SECRET +5)
Specialization: Even Split(Gold Ability): Strength and Concentration
Breakdown
Strength: ? (? + 5)
Precision: ?
Endurance: ?
Concentration: ? (? + 5)
Description: Like her mother before her, Ellenath’s hide has a reddish tinge to it, making her look almost brassy in low light. The pretty red-gold hue of her hide is even over her whole frame, broken only by a spattering of white-gold freckles stretching in a line from her nose, down her back, to her tailtip. A handful of the freckles also wink prettily around the lower part of her limbs and here and there on her wingsails.
Inherited from both of her parents, Ellenath will be quite massive once she is fully grown. Her size as a hatchling, however, will only give a small warning to this, as though she is larger than her brethren as befitting her color, she is also rather delicate in form. The first several months of her development will find her a bit on the thin side, her length of body and tail only accenting this. Though by no means frail, she will have an ethereal quality to her, highlighted by the diaphanous look of her delicate wingsails. Her fine features and long, tapered headknobs will define her as a beauty, even while her thin frame steadily packs on muscle.
When she is grown, she will likely stand just as large as her mother – perhaps only a few inches smaller in body, but just that much longer in tail. While she will pack on a great deal of muscle in the coming years, the tight cording of her muscles will ensure that she will never be thought bulky. Wide shoulders and strong limbs will combine with her long, elegant form to form quite the lovely dragon. Though others might be able to claim to be more beautiful, it is likely that none of them will ever be able to match her presence.
Personality: To one versed in some of the old Earth stereotypes, Ellenath could definitely be given the likeness of the typical Irish redhead, complete with two very different sides to her personality. Super-sweet and cheerful in general, she’ll usually be a joy to converse with for any who catch her attention. Understanding and hospitable, she’s a very caring dragon, full of warmth and generosity for the beings of her Weyr. A good listener and one who usually prefers to hear all sides of a story before making a decision, she’ll display a good many of her leadership abilities through her ability to mediate and moderate. A happy state of calm and centeredness will be the most common temperament that one will find her in, but that can change quick as lightning.
It does take a somewhat small amount of effort, but when angered this gold will have a fierce temper. Almost as a complete one-eighty of her calm demeanor, she is in no way one that anyone will enjoy ticking off. In fact, should a being ever encounter her ire, the best course of action would be to go as far away as possible, as fast as possible. However, when she does manage to catch the object of her rage and tear into him, her, or them, it can be quite a spectacle. Though wishing her fury on another might not be common, it will definitely be quite hilarious to watch. Just…don’t get too close. Or laugh (in any way that she could hear). Because that is a guaranteed way to ensure that you are next.
Despite her overarching hospitality, Ellenath is no pushover. True to form, she can be incredibly stubborn, and quite hardheaded to boot when she’s made a decision about something. While she can be reasonable about most matters, there are times when she will put her foot down and brook no argument (except, save, from her Rider). One way to get on her bad side is to continue directly harping on something she has already made a decision on, and the more it is done the larger the emotional thundercloud around her will grow. Thankfully, she usually only gets overly stubborn about things that matter a great deal to her personally and a handful of small things that probably don’t matter to anyone but her and can be let slide.
Ellenath is a dragon that understands the difference between work and play, and carefully takes her time to accommodate both – as too much of either would probably kill you. She can have all the seriousness befitting a queen when it is necessary for her to have such, but also knows how to relax and have a bit of fun. She will prefer to be regally relaxed in most of her encounters as a leader, but with a touch of open friendliness so as not to alienate the other or others approaching her. When work is done and it is time for play, she can be a bit of a rambunctious dragon; and while she might outgrow a certain amount of this playfulness over the turns when dealing with others, her Rider will forever be privy to her fun-loving side. True to this playfulness, she can be a bit of a coquette, doing her best to test both friends and potential mates (for both herself and her Rider) both in mental as well as physical prowess, which will lend her a rather consistent air of gentle teasing. Her eyes will usually be alight with good cheer and a small dose of antic glee, and if a dragon could smile then hers would constantly be threatening to burst into a grin.
Fun Facts:
Type: Firelizard
Name: Tydus
Color: Bronze
Age: 1
Description: Resting right in the medium of sizes for his color, Tydus is a good 37 inches long and built rather lean for a bronze. Instead of muscular or brawny, this flit is slender and packed with lean strength, looking slightly lithe but tough. His conformations are rather average, legs, wings, and neck all just about right for his size. With his slender build on that large frame, Ty almost looks too dainty for a bronze, but the set of his head and body will quickly remind you of how arrogant he is, despite his skinnier-than-average body. Though Tydus is not as strong as most of his color because of his diminished power, his lean and lithe muscles give him more agility in the air than his brothers. His hide is a lovely honey-tinted bronze, a rich hue that gleams in the sun. He does have a sprinkling of lighter, more pale spots on his haunches and back, and there is a dark-copper bronze dusting on his belly and tips of his paws.
Personality: Imagine the most arrogant bronze dragon you have ever met. No, no, I don’t mean just any old bronze, I mean the most insufferably hardheaded, conceited dragon you have ever encountered in all your turns of life. Now, take that huge ego and shove it into a tiny body about 37 inches long. The resulting wad of massively condensed pride and haughtiness would then likely resemble Tydus. More egotistical than a fully grown bronze dragon at their worst, this flit is a little, exasperating ball of arrogance. He is simply the most conceited, annoying bugger you could ever meet, utterly obnoxious in his overconfidence. In his mind, this bronze is the most clever, handsome, and all around better-than-everyone else firelizard that has ever graced Pern with his presence. In all actuality, when it comes right down to it, he believes absolutely no creature can rival him. Except His.
Despite his utterly massive ego, this bronze is highly affectionate, and loves HIsgirl more than absolutely anything. Tydus adores Raelwyn with every little conceited bone in his body, and would do anything for her. Extremely protective, this flit is always at his bonded’s side, and he can be a demon when he deems it necessary. Ty is more than just protective actually, he is a practical guardian, eyeing every single living thing that approaches Hisgirl with mistrust. Fierce and highly protective, he will quickly warn off anything he deems too dangerous to allow close to Rael. Generally, however, he just thinks he is too good to really even acknowledge your presence, and will just stare at anyone if they try to talk to him. The bronze is especially wary of males, and tends to hiss or snarl at any who try to touch him or Hisgirl. With age, this has gotten better, of course, and he doesn’t show as much aggression as he used to. Although, if any man dared touch him without permission from the flit, he would likely bite them.
Females are tolerated slightly better, however, as long as they do not seem too intimidating. He likes girls, especially female dragons and flits, and will usually welcome them. As a matter of fact, Ty loves female dragons, and is certainly not above giving a good flit-scratch to them to win their affection. If you aren’t a girl dragon though, don’t expect him to get too friendly, because it takes a while to win him over otherwise. Still, Tydus is an interesting flit, haughty though he may be, but he is also rather humorous if you really study him. Every movement and sound is bursting with pride and arrogance, and if you really think about it, it’s rather funny to see a tiny, 37 inch creature that is so full of themselves.
This bronze isn’t exactly like your typical flit, though. Food bribes and even shiny things don’t really grab his attention, and the only way to win him over is compliments. Yes, Tydus is insufferably conceited, and so compliments and praise is certainly the only way to really get on his good side. Stroke his ego enough, and you might just win him over. However, if there is one thing he hates, it’s the small-stupid-brown Hisgirl bonded to a turn after she acquired Tydus. He was here first, after all, and he absolutely loathes having to share Rael with another creature. His affection for Hisgirl does not extend to her other bondeds and friends, only those that have managed to win his loyalty, and he will never accept the small-stupid-brown. The bronze will, however, be more than glad to accept a female dragon into his graces, should Hisgirl manage to Impress one. If she Impresses a male though…oh Faranth help us.
Fun Facts: The history of the pair is rather interesting. Raelwyn lost her necklace in the Fort weyrhall one night after dinner, and upon searching for the trinket she found the Weyrling Master’s firelizard had picked it up off the floor. She approached the bronzerider respectfully, and to her surprise a conversation had ensued. The man offered her one of his little gold’s eggs when she clutched, an unexpectedly kind present, but he had no doubt seen the wonder and longing in the candidate’s eyes as she cooed and fawned over his pet. A few sevendays later, the rider pulled her aside after dinner and presented her with the small egg, keeping his word. Rael had lavished him with appreciation, and was sure to take special care of her gift until it hatched. She was stunned when a bronze stared back at her, for he was the very color she had always desired. The girl named him Tydus, and usually calls him Ty for short.
Type: Fire-Lizard
Name: Cloud
Color: Brown
Age: 9 Months (First Month, Turn 8 of the Tenth Pass) (Mid-Winter)
Description: This brown’s hide is a rich golden-brown in color with just a hint of shine to it. From a distance, it might be possible to even mistake him for a bronze because of that slight sheen. Up close, however, it’s hard to even believe this fire-lizard is a brown because of his size. This brown is absolutely tiny for his color, being more the size of a slightly larger that average blue.
Everything about him is sleek, from his headknobs to his long tail. His body is heavily muscled, but maintains that sleekness instead of looking bulky. His talons are abnormally long, as are the fleshy parts of his claws, giving him a dangerous look. Their length gives him a particular dexterity with them, and he will be able to easily pick through or grip objects. His wings are large, and when spread make him look rather intimidating. His eyes are constantly narrowed, leaving it up to guessing if they are simply shaped that way or if he just always carries that expression. Every nuance about his physique paints the picture of the perfect predator – except for his tiny size.
Personality: This brown is super-possessive of anything he considers his. He will hoard any objects that have been given to him, and only his bonded will ever be allowed to touch them(and maybe His’s other bondeds). After all, his bonded is His too. He will huddle close to his bonded whenever possible, tucking himself into the neck of any shirt or jacket so he can curl up around his bonded’s neck. His regard may extend to other creatures attached to his bonded, but it’s hit or miss. Prolonged exposure to any other beings – human or otherwise – might eventually draw him to them, so close friends and weyrmates (as well as any previously-shunned other bondeds of His) might eventually gain his favor as well. His parents and clutchsiblings have a tender place in his little heart, but he’ll swing back and forth between loving them dearly or shunning their presence. Once a being gains his regard, he will defend him or her with every fierce little ounce in him. Nothing – nothing – may harm what he has deemed his.
For anything he considers to be not his (and doesn’t want anyway), he will attempt not to touch it in any way. He will wind his sinuous body in ways that keep him from touching other things when walking or flying, and his long claws are useful for handling anything he doesn’t care to touch – as he will act as if that object is sticky or diseased. He will walk and strut if he doesn’t have to worry about other things touching him, but if the space is very close he will curl up on himself and skulk about while glaring at everything.
He loves presents, and will likely make a small place in His’s quarters where he will keep his stash. Anything edible will be taken to a corner and carefully devoured (so no one else can take it!) and anything inedible will be taken back to his stash to be loved and coveted and crooned over. He’s a bit selfish, but he would give anything for His. Presents will definitely go a long way with this flit, as will compliments (as long as no one mentions his size; it’s a rather sore spot). Attention from those he has accepted is always welcome, and he will love to cuddle those rare few.
He will be very picky about rising to Chase in Flights. If he deigns that the female is un-icky enough, he will fly with a single-minded possessiveness. She will be his. After the Flight, it is a toss up if he will go back to disliking her presence and will skulk away or if he will count her among what is his and stay to cuddle.

Bonded Critter(s):
Type: Dragon
Name: Ellenath

He will hoard any objects that have been given to him, and only his bonded will ever be allowed to touch them
For anything he considers to be not his (and doesn’t want anyway), he will attempt not to touch it in any way.
