Shards, Lialla hated chores. When would she be switched off of the glows? It felt like she had been doing this since arrival! Nope! But don't worry, it's going to be over soon- so no fiery explosion today![/i] Cryth put in cheerfully. Ever since the first day, the green had felt the need to assert the fact that there would be no spontaneous combustion of her rider. It made Lia laugh a little, which kept her from banging her head against the walls between the glows. At least she was in a populated area, as opposed to an utterly obsolete back corner which apparently needs to be just as bright as the Great Hall. She coughed, and then replaced a dimming glow with one which was fully bright.
Just for you, I won't explode, the weyrling reassured her flighty green (a bit of redundancy, there, but what can you do?). She could feel her splashing around in the waves of the beach, diving and playing with some wild f'lizards she had befriended, waiting for Hers to finish that last stretch so that she could bathe. The itinerary for the day was to finish chores early, so that the rest of the day could be theirs. Cryth wanted to cheer Hers up- she hadn't been in the best mood lately, and it upset the green. So they would spend the day together and be happy!
Lialla coughed again, walking over to another dimming glow and replacing it. I'm almost done, sweetheart. However, she was delayed from replacing this glow with yet another round of coughing. Are you alright, Minelove? Cryth asked worriedly, her tail beginning to swish in the water. Hers didn't answer, consumed with a coughing fit, and then there were people in the halls. Some were coughing, others were wondering at commotion... what was going on? I'm fine, sweetie, don't worry. And that's when it started.
The general quiet of mid-morning was interrupted by loud sounds- crashing, rumblings, yelling... but it was the scream that truly worried Lia. It came from the weyr across from her, and was enough to beckon her inside a weyr- a place she wouldn't normally venture, being a private area. The coughing, and then loud noises, compounded with someone screaming in... pain? It was enough to spark both her curiosity as well as her instincts to help, so she went out through the weyr and through to the ledge. Nothing would have prepared her for the havoc occurring. There were... boulders! What?!!
Mine. Mine, what's going on, what's going on, are you alright? I'm coming to get you. Cryth's voice cut through the chaos, and Lialla immediately knew that she couldn't let her innocent, eager little green see any of this. There were boulders falling from the sky, and there was smoke in the air, and there was screaming and yelling and... she quickly sent a thought out to her mindmate. Don't come. I'm fine. Love you, I'm fine.
Of course, this only alarmed Cryth more, and so Lia shut her out and knelt to try and help the person on the ledge, who had been hit by one of the boulders, she presumed. There was profuse bleeding from the head, which seemed to be from the fall onto the stone ledge more so than the boulder. Head wounds bled copiously no matter what, and the pulse was steady, so Lialla felt a little better about the chances. Now she needed bandaging and lots of it- who knew who else was injured?! Shells, she had no idea what was happening. It seemed like they were being attacked, but that was utterly absurd. Who would attack them?
Her mind went to Trith's Flight, and she cursed aloud before coughing again, standing up and looking around her. There were people trapped by the falling boulders, there were plenty of injured, and there were probably a few casualties. The only thing she could do was help the people who were hurt. So where were the bandages? There were probably some in the rider's room, whoever it was. She was going to search for them when Cryth's voice began to shout in her mind, tired of being ignored, and coming in with fierce, unusual will. MINE. What is happening?! What is going on?? Are you okay??? The frantic mindvoice worried Lialla more than anything else, and she winced.
I love you, sweetheart, but I have to help these people. If I can, I have to. And then she dashed into the rider's weyr and began tearing through for bandages. It didn't take longer than a minute or two- most riders did keep minimal first-aid, for the little things that they could take care of without making an Infirmary trip. Lialla managed to stem some of the blood flow from the head, dressing and bandaging it, and then she moved to the next injured person on another ledge. Help as many as she could, within her very limited knowledge. Shield them inside their weyr if she could.
Before she could leave the fourth ledge, however, a sharp, distant creel voiced from the beach, cut off abruptly and never picking back up.

He hadn't gone to bed yet, shardit.
Yawning widely, Toven finished another meatroll. He was finally beginning to curb the hunger brought on by missing his usual three meals. Of course Tovsk had fallen asleep in the apartments a few candlemarks ago, leaving Toven free to continue his research. During lesson last night, a question had arisen about wher hide that he wasn't entirely sure how to answer... and, thus, he canceled the second lesson and had holed up in the library researching, only coming out now in desperate need of food. He'd probably end up going back there and continuing to research until he found an answer... but now, food was important.
The handler took a sip of klah, forcing his eyes to stay open as his mind drifted around. He didn't do well on little sleep and too much eye-strain, but he had work to do. Still, the lids drooped a little lower... and lower... and lower...
There was screaming. Why in Faranth's name were people screaming in the Kitchens?! It was probably a bunch of annoying little girls. Forcing his eyes back open, Toven had to blink a few times before he registered what was going on. Smoke? Screaming? Running around? Shells, was there a fire? He stood up, shaking his head, still wondering why a kitchen fire would cause this much chaos. There was fire... all over. How did it get this out of control?!
His answer was found when he looked to the front of the kitchens and saw a man literally building up the already-raging fires. By the first egg! A weyrling was carrying out a drudge who appeared injured, and the Weyrling Master was dragging another away from the flames. Then Mira was yelling about sand, not water- sensible. If they threw water on the grease... shells, that wouldn't be good. Probably the main thing right now would be containing the fire, as opposed to putting it out at right this instant. His wherling began throwing things- sand, flour, etc.- to create barriers and stop the spread. He would ask why she was out after curfew later: now he was grateful.
“If you can't help, get out,” he told the remaining drudges, ushering them towards the doors and throwing the bucket that Mira had thrown after them. Unless they were helping, they needed to leave and find someone who could. Thankfully, the Kitchens weren't crowded but there were enough to raise the panic level, which was already high enough. Make them do something useful! “Go find dirt, sand, anything like that. Not water.” Then he turned back around and joined Mira in throwing anything he could find that would help onto the fire. It was getting hot!

Who: Dalisth/L'mar and EVERYONE ELSE. What: Dalisth's maiden Flight When: About three days after the touching/plotliness
--
The Weyr was quiet... or, as quiet as it could be right now, with all of the drama that had occurred a few days prior. L'mar shook his head- nope, not thinking about that, not now. It was over. It was mid-afternoon, quiet, with most people absorbed in whatever activities they were involved in. The weavers weaving, the harpers singing, the healers... healing... yeah. He couldn't think about that right now. L'mar was absorbed in sitting. He had been told not to move, by his darling green, and therefore he wouldn't. After all, he wasn't a dimglow. He was Weyrbred; he had been raised to recognize the signs: moodiness, glowing hide, etc.. So he figured it was just a matter of time before she got woke up, and he had better acquiesce to her now, and save his will for later.
This afternoon, he deduced, would be the time. She had woken up irritably, snapping at him, scaring Nuisance away, immediately surveying the area, eating, and then insisting that they go down by the beach. As soon as they were there, she fell asleep again, which was unlike her. So L'mar decided that when she finally woke up again (Dalisth slept like a sharding rock when she didn't wish to be woken) she would make some strange noises, and then take to the air, calling the males of the Weyr after her. He'd seen it plenty of times, and he had been expecting it since Impression day. Admittedly, that was an exaggeration, and he had expected to... not be on the edge of the beach, but the point remains. L'mar wasn't taken-aback, he wasn't trying to figure out the what or the when. So now it was just a matter of it actually happening.
Literally twiddling his thumbs- you don't often see people do that, but it does happen- the weyrling sat beside his green in the sand, waiting, waiting. There was a quiet around them, not many people present, the Weyr in a state of... shock, really, but that wasn't the focus right here. The focus was the quiet, and Dalisth. He closed his eyes for a minute, to block out all of the happenings from a few days prior (he was very good at blocking things out)...
...and then he was bombarded with chaotic emotion. For a moment, he looked around, thinking that there was another attack. As soon as his eyes landed on his glowing green, however, L'mar understood.
Her eyes were whirling vibrant reds and oranges, her tail was swishing back and forth, and her head was raised up an alert- a true contrast from just a few minutes ago when she had been dead asleep. L'mar reached out, hoping to soothe her, but Dalisth yanked her head away, rising with more grace than she usually held on land. It is time, Mine, she told him harshly. Still, she waited for his responding nod of agreement and understanding, before emitting a loud bugle- enough to wrench the Weyr from their facade of normalcy. The weyrling watched her hind muscles bunch, before springing in power enough to launch her into the air. Beginning an upward spiral, slow at first, but gradually gaining speed, the green waited until she could see the majority of the Weyr before bugling again.
Come and dance, if you dare, by the beach![/b] she called, still spiraling upwards. The tragedy was over. It was time to focus on her.

It wasn't long before the first wherling arrived, trotting into the room with wher in tow. Near literally- Meta was obviously eager to be there (or to have a valid reason to be away from chores, whichever one prefers). “Meta, Metask,” he greeted with a nod. Those two should do well tonight, if they kept on focus and didn't make too much noise. She was likely to work well, and he would be determined to protect her- that should keep those two alright. So long as the brown didn't start experimenting with noises in the middle of watch. Next was Naoko and her blue who would, of course, be fine. He returned the nod, glad that there was at least one wherpair present that he could trust to themselves. Sure, they still needed direction, but Naoko did her research well.
“Dastan,” he greeted as the next bluepair approached. He would do well, too. So long as he and Mira didn't get distracted by one another... which was unlikely. Oh, look, there she was. “Greetings, Mira.” Separately, they were both good prospective handlers, with strong bonds to their whers and dedication to the craft. But they were a tad too enamored with one another to truly focus; he wouldn't put it passed them to be held back simply for breaking the rules of inappropriate contact before the wherlings grew more. The only thing that may stop them would be fear of damaging the whers but... only time would tell.
Of no matter, currently. The last two wherlings arrived, followed by Tovsk. Everyone seemed to be dressed appropriately, and so Toven began gaining the attention of the group.
“Alright, wherlings. You're going to be members of the NightWatch tonight, as you know. It will give you an idea of what to expect, if you stay on as part of the Watch. It will inspire teamwork between you, your wher, and your classmates. It will encourage everyone to learn and understand how to follow instructions, even the natural leaders among you... because if you don't follow instructions, then you and your wher will go back to the apartments and you and your wher will be punished accordingly. I'm sure we won't need that though, right?” The brownhandler doubted that the threat was necessary, but it was out there as a warning, just in case.
“We'll be going out as a group, following my lead. Patrolling the perimeter of the Weyr to be sure that nothing gets in that shouldn't, and that all is well and calm. That is our job, as wherhandlers- to guard and protect at night those that protect us during the day.” Pause, to regard the wherlings. “Follow me, do as I say, talking only when necessary, and keep your eyes open. Any questions?” It would be interesting to see everyone in the dead of night – the whers especially, doing what they were made to do. To see how wher and handler communicated, how the different people interacted in a real situation. It would, at the very least, let Toven know what they needed to work out.

Straight to the point. L'mar thought Evyi was annoying. But if she was willing to be civil tonight, when they were both obscenely bored and there was no one else to talk to, he could tolerate her. He was, at heart, a patient person. “You and me, both. I can't seem to find anything interesting to do; I usually have plenty of alternatives stored up.” He shrugged, and continued to drag the broom across the floor. It was quite apparent that he wasn't doing more than shoving the dust around,if even that, but of no matter.
Honestly, he thought that she was done talking to him. It wouldn't have surprised him in the least, in fact, if she didn't say a single additional word while he was in the room. But just as he moved to swipe across a different section of dusty floor, Evyi began speaking again, causing L'mar to drag his eyes up. “I don't know. My eyes would fall out if I had to sort the hides in this light. Obviously, I'm not really doing anything.” Just to humor her, and to give himself something to do, he cocked an eyebrow at the green weyrling.
“So what might you be suggesting, Evyi? That we abandon our chores for the night?” He couldn't imagine what they would do, anyways, but he was always willing to skive off. Maybe it was developing into a pattern. If so, L'mar couldn't bring himself to mind. Dalisth would scold him, as would Lia (if she found out, which she wasn't likely to do). The Weyrling Master may get angry, but he couldn't prove anything, truthfully. A brief scolding wasn't going to deter him.
It was only a few moments later when L'mar was distracted from his thoughts by a new, masculine voice, causing the green weyrling to look up in surprise. He grinned when he saw K'ron- the brownrider was a decent guy, good to talk to, and certainly not unattractive. "Hey, K'ron," he returned with a nod. Watching the brown weyrling get his things into order, he looked at Evyi and began to chuckle lightly. "K'ron hasn't yet lost his wit from boredom," he intoned bemusedly.
"Nuisance," he answered with another chuckle. "Dali liked it, and it just seemed to stick." Before L'mar could return a question with a question, however, yet another person walked into the Library. What was this, the Great Hall? Just a few minutes prior, he had been begging for someone to enter... and now there were four of them! Not to mention, the newcomers (judging by the new girl's words) seemed to actually want to work. That many... in a Library... and they wished to work? Faranth help him.
He'd work something out so that he wasn't dragging the broom across the floor for much longer. "We're all laboring diligently," he assured her with an honest, straight face. She was knew... maybe she would buy it. As if to make a point, the green weyrling legitimately swept his broom across the floor a few times, making his first pile of dust of the night, before he looked back up at her and blinked innocently. It was him 'Believe me, I'm just a sweet an innocent little greenrider' face. Not many people bought it, nowadays. Ah, well.

((Welcome!))
It was quite obvious that he wasn't doing a very good job- which would, of course, cause the chore to last longer until he actually managed to sweep the floor well. L'mar never claimed to think things through. Dragging the broom across the floor, he turned a corner, rolling his eyes as he saw all the dust. There was just a ton of it. Alright, so there wasn't that much, but... he had a flair for the dramatics. So send him between! Huffing, he began studiously sweeping at a single spot, bored and unwilling to do the rest of the room at just that moment. He was beginning to wonder what 'perfectly un-dusty' would look like, and if he had reached that point yet, when a voice interrupted his internal diatribe.
His face lit up- a person! Oh wait... he knew her. And he wasn't a huge fan of her own dramatics, her haughty manner, or her delightful way with words. But you know what? He knew her, she was a fellow green weyrling from his class, and she was opening the door away from the boredom that was this chore. "Evyi," L'mar returned, nodding towards her. His mind came to the quick deduction that if she was willing to relieve him of some of this boredom, he would put up with her snooty manner. Maybe she would be halfway decent, who knew? It's not like he'd had very many one-on-one conversations with her before.
"You look equally excited. Don't you absolutely adore chores?"

Who: Toven/Tovsk and the wherlings What: Lessons When: midnight ("afternoon") second class of the day Where: outside
--
The second class was almost always worse than the first class. Firstly, the wherlings were actually awake now, and between Mira and Dastan about to rip each other's clothing off, Meta being masculine, Naoko being... well... Naoko, and the others- well, all of them awake and alert could be exhausting on a good day. The whers, thankfully, were all developing well, and no official wherling rules were being broken; a good sign, Toven guessed. Actually, the whers were developing better than he would have guessed, although some, such as Misk, seemed to have retained early, hatchling-like behavioral traits that she was unlikely to grow out of. Oh, well.
"Alright, Tovsk, go ahead and call them back. I'm sure they won't mind to get away from Chores, even if it means lessons." The brown took great pleasure in going and finding all of the 'kiddies'. Really, most of them should be making their way back here without his help, as they had eyes and could judge time, since they were unlikely to be caught up in their chores... which weren't all that exciting... but Tovsk enjoyed it, so Toven would let him have his fun rounding up the wherlings.
Today could actually be a rather interesting lesson. Hopefully it wasn't. The wherpairs would be shadowing him tonight for a candlemark or two as he did his Nightwatch rounds. Part of this was practical: most of them would be on the watch after graduation, and they needed to gain a general idea of what that might entail. The other part was that the watch was sadly understocked and, with it being mid-spring and all of the jungle creatures coming to life. It had been awhile since the creature had attacked a night guard, but with the upstart in activity... well, every little bit helps.
Not that he actually expected the wherlings to be much of a help tonight, but it would give them a good idea of what to expect. Waiting outside for them all to arrive, Toven tapped his hand against his leg in a non-existent beat.

Who: L'mar and anyone... K'vin's also got this chore! What: Choresss When: Night Where: Library
L'mar didn't like sweeping. It was very un-fun. Now, granted, it was remarkably more pleasant than firestone bagging, so he would suck it up and do it without much of a fuss. Much being the key word. Moving the broom over the floor of the Library, which was almost completely empty, he grumbled over the dusty floors. It was obvious no one actually used this place, and therefore, it was useless for him to be there cleaning it. But no... the Headwoman insisted that it was the Library he was supposed to sweep today, and not a more vivacious section of the Weyr.
Normally, he wouldn't mind so much, being that sweeping wasn't particularly a slow and dreary job. You start and you finish- easy. But the Library was pretty big for a place that no one went. Ugh. Cleaning. Gross. It would be more fun if someone was there, but K'vin had yet to make an appearance. Hopefully he would show up eventually, and make this entire experience less boring. Or... anyone, really.
Hopefully.

Between Dalisth, impending graduation, lessons, chores, Nuisance, and everything else life threw at L'mar (which wasn't actually much more than the things listed, but he was always a little prone to histrionics) he hadn't been able to spend much time with his best friend. Added to that was Trith's Flight, and the consequential drama. Thankfully, everyone had calmed down a little bit with the clutch safely laid on the Sands. With the new 'downtime', he was quick to schedule some time to hang out with his Rael. If he was utterly truthful, he would admit that it was actually she who sought him out to request transportation and, of course, quality time with him. Good thing he wasn't, otherwise, people might not think of him as kind and gracious- which he was, honest!
The last few sevendays had been quiet, with most of the Weyr not as active as it usually was. L'mar hadn't pulled a prank- on anyone- in at least two sevendays! Unheard of. He was generally uninspired by the depression wafting throughout the Weyr. Even the happiness of the impending clutch hadn't cheered many people, not until it actually arrived. And even though, people took one look at Trith, and knew not to try anything with this clutch. The gold was obviously upset and a little unstable, which didn't bode well. He was sure that everything would turn out alright, though. Eventually. L'mar finally finished putting on the riding harness, tying the last deftly. “You're not allowed to be a downer today, Dalisth my love. We're spending some time with Rael, the little king, and her newest addition, who I hear is as pompous as Ty. It should be fun.”
She didn't respond, merely flicking her tail to encourage him to hurry it up. So he climbed on top of the green with her aid, sitting comfortably and assuredly, as if he had done it all of his life. That's what things were like with Dali- like he'd never been without her, ever, despite the fact that it'd been less than two turns since he'd Impressed. “Nuisance, you coming?” he asked curiously. The blue didn't always tag along, although he usually did when Dali was around. Sometimes, L'mar swore, he thought that the flitter liked his dragon more than him! I'm remarkably more charming than you are, L'marMine, she said teasingly as her favorite little nuisance winged over to chirp on her head. The two chatted for a few minutes, apparently exchanging mental images, before the little creature betweened without, L'mar thought, warning. My little Nuisance isn't coming, not after I told him of the girl's little nuisances. He is at the eating place now watching people, the green informed him.
Common occurrence. His little blue was a bit of a creep, watching humans as if they were fascinating, and then returning with a myriad of mental image for his favorite dragon and L'mar. Shrugging, the weyrling asked Dalisth to go find Rael and her companions, so they were soon in the air. It didn't take long- they were exactly where his best friend had said they would be. Shock. Rael being a good, sweet soul who did as she said she would do. Laughing a little to himself, he dismounted to rush over to his best friend, intending to pick her up and swing her around. Normal greeting, of course. He stopped early at the sight of a brown flitter in her arms and instead sighed, rolling his eyes dramatically, and instead kneeling on the ground and raising his own hand to ask for her own. “My dearest, sweet Raelwyn, I have missed your presence and aspire to have a fantastic day with you in my presence.” Pausing briefly, he looked up to acknowledge her new firelizards. “Little king,” he said with a nod, before looking at the brown that prevented him from swinging his best friend around. “And you I have yet to meet. Introductions are in order, my dear Rael.” Of course, he was still on one knee before her, with no plans to move.

He was already wet, and so the splash of water didn't do much to L'mar. He shrugged, grinning as the water dripped out of his hair. “I bet you weren't singing the same tune when you were a candidate,” he challenged. “I know I wasn't. But you're right; Dalisth complains every time I have to leave her alone to go do chores.” Mainly about him complaining about having to do chores, but still. She was complaining, and it was disrupting her general content. Which was... bad.
“Lialla?” the weyrling asked with a small smile. Oh, yes. Lia was his sister, and he loved her, but she was probably not well liked by the other weyrlings. Most notably? R'tel. That chore day had been... interesting. “She's not moody-” he attempted to defend weakly. “Or... she is. But she's super-smart and sort of fun if you get to know her.” Not that he wanted F'ren to get to know his little sister. F'ren was a friend, and L'mar liked him a good deal. But Lialla was his little sister, and she was sweet, and she was smart, and he didn't want the rugged bronze rider-to-be to corrupt her, or something terrible.
Well, he'd cross that bridge when they came to it. He shuddered a little in the water. “We are pretty different though. Why?”

Everyone-- and that means everyone-- knew that L'mar had the reputation of a troublemaker. He mostly did work on his own, liking originality, and not liking a big mess of people to get caught along with him. Because, of course, he often did get caught. That was part of the fun! Then, everyone knew that he had done it! But, in cases like this one, where there were rumors going around about maybe a few of the wherlings putting something together... well that could be fun. He liked to make trouble. It amused him. So with a few weyrlings, a few wherlings, and some others... all who shared his joy in the art... it could be even MORE fun.
He wasn't even sure where he had heard the rumors. Probably in the kitchens, or maybe it was something Nuisance had picked up. Surely Dali hadn't tipped him off. While she enjoyed his pranks, a vast majority of the time, she didn't often encourage them. Oh, well, she would learn, eventually. The old lesson- if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! He had yet to be beaten by the mature, responsible people of the Weyr, and thus he had yet to join them. This was a much more amusing way to spend life, anyways.
Not far behind F'ren, L'mar strolled through the doors, grinning widely at the prospect of fun, and the laughing a little at the bronze weyrling's wording. "I don't think he actually meant it like that," he said, shrugging at his fellow. "I'm L'mar, weyrling of green Dalisth," he greeted jovially. A good mood, today, apparently.
Nuisance flitted before him, betweening to appear in the room before L'mar entered, to find his customary, out of the way perch. He didn't like to be around large groups of scary- just look at that tortured creature right in front of them, being cooed at. He would sit, and observe, and if he got bored (unlikely with all of the scary to stare at) he could go bother his-big-green. That could be fun! Ooh-look, there was his scary. He was big and tall and scary-looking, not to mention loud, but it was still fun because he was fun. The blue folded his wings, ready to watch the madness, and probably scariness, that was bound to ensue.

Who: Lialla, Meta, Relian, [open] What: chores Warnings: angry Lialla. Who doesn't like chores.
--
Her brother had nailed it when he said she was uptight, and when he said she didn't have much fun... even when he said that she was a 'goody-two-shoes'. Which wasn't an expression, by the way, which made much sense. But that was fine, she wouldn't correct him, he was correct in the connotation of the phrase. Lialla wasn't very outgoing, nor was she vivacious, nor was she rebellious. Even all of that, however, did not mean that she enjoyed chores, and so she did not appreciate it when L'mar tacked that on the end. Especially not chores as boring as changing the glows. Who likes that? Who enjoys that?
No one. Not even her.
But she was all of the things that he had so presumptuously labeled her as, in that charming, brotherly way that made her annoyed, while not actually making her angry. And so she was here. First one to arrive, for the first day, of changing glows. It was such a dull chore! There was no change, no modicum of intellectual spark, unless someone was REALLY dumb and mixed up the buckets. Well, then there could be some spark, but it'd most likely be from Lialla's spontaneous combustion simply due to her frustration. Doesn't that mean you'll explode? Cryth asked.
A little too annoyed (already! imagine how she'd be after the month was up!!) to detect the worry in her green's mindvoice, she responded, If I ever did practice spontaneous combustion, I would burst into flames. Like exploding, but with.... fire. Less of the exploding principle. It was the best way she could describe it. Of course, Cryth began to worry immensely, terrified at the idea of her lovable mindmate bursting into flames. Thus, it took Lia a few minutes to calm the weyrling down, with assurance atop assurance, until she was fairly sure that the green had mostly forgotten why she was so worried. Soon after that point was reached, she began growing tired...
Which left Lialla alone with her thoughts, and the sharding glows. Her ire had cooled a little, but if left for an extended period of time, she could very well go insane. Or, at least, she could very well freak out anyone who came by once she starts talking to herself to pass the time.
