F‘ren had a hard time deciding whether he should show up for whatever the wherlings had planned. He really didn‘t want to get into more trouble with M‘ma now that he was so close to graduating, the ditching with L‘mar was sure to have lost him points with a few people and he really couldn‘t risk more trouble. But he had now gotten a taste for rebellion, however small it was, and you couldn‘t really get into trouble if you weren‘t caught. So in the end he‘d decided to at least hear the wherlings out.
With Patch in his customary place in weyrling‘s bag, F‘ren entered the weyrhall and looked around. He wasn‘t exactly sure what the wherlings that had planned this looked like, since he‘d heard about it from a fellow weyrling, but those two looked the part, sitting as far from the entrance as they could. And hadn‘t one impressed one of Patch‘s clutchsiblings? He was pretty sure that the boy was a wherling at least.
F‘ren had to admit that he was curious about wherlings, why would they want to be joined with such ugly creatures as the whers were? But he could understand wanting to be bonded to someone and after all, weren‘t all wher handlers simply rejects that no dragon had wanted? If Eneth hadn‘t chosen him, would F‘ren have been forced to make do with a wher? F‘ren shuddered inwardly at the thought but plastered a smile on his face and joined the wherlings at their table. After all, they could be perfectly interesting and fun people even they were bonded to whers.
„Hello, I‘m F‘ren a weyrling of bronze Eneth. Aren‘t you the wherlings that wanted to... have some fun? Because I‘m so interested. What do you have planned?“ He observed the two people he was sitting with, the girl was beautiful but he thought that he detected something between her and her handsome companion. Besides, he wasn‘t interested in waiting and the girl still had a long way to go before her wher would be old enough.
He grinned at the green firelizard and scooped up a protesting Patch. „Isn‘t she one of Brillia‘s? This one here would then be her brother.“ Patch tried to be as far away from the others and as close to His as he could, and then scolded His for always forcing poor Patch to meet the scary people.

Well did that big brown think that he had a better relationship with His than Asileth had with Hers?! A distant memory resurfaced and Asileth grew smug. I also know that Mine likeslikes Yours! He wants to cuddle with Yours but thinks that Yours doesn‘t want to cuddle with him. Satisfied that she had shown her worth, Asileth began to get impatient. Hers was just standing there, doing nothing except holding that boy‘s hand. Asileth walked over to them and impatiently bumped her head against Hers. Miiiiiiiiine, can we leave now. I want to go swimming.
Oh wow. Just wow. L‘cin... had not only not fled, screaming, but had continued to hold K‘vin‘s hand. It was so nice to just stand there, being this close to L‘cin, and even physically touching him. He couldn‘t even believe that this was happening, that L‘cin liked him too. This moment was probably the single best moment of K‘vin‘s life. A tiny doubt surfaced in K‘vin‘s mind that maybe holding hands was just a friendly gesture, but the rational part of his brain won out. It seemed like L‘cin actually liked him back. Which was amazing. Oh, but they were going somewhere? And Asileth... was impatient. „We should go, Asileth wants to go take a bath,“ K‘vin said breathlessly before reluctantly letting go of L‘cin‘s hand to mount Asileth.

Asileth was torn between liking Queth, because Hers liked Queth‘s, and being annoyed by him. For a brown he was very talkative. But this like between theirs was a topic she wanted to explore, annoying dragon or not. I don‘t know if Mine likeslikes yours. He likes Cryth‘s and Calzanth‘s especially much but when he thinks about Yours I know he likes him too but he also feels funny about Yours. Funny in a good way, but still funny. She decided to not acknowledge a part of what Queth had said. She would see how much she liked him later, but at the moment Asileth was really unsure about the brown. He was not like her favoritebrown.
L‘cin was talking and K‘vin... wasn‘t listening. He couldn‘t help it if L‘cin looked so cute when he was sheepish that K‘vin couldn‘t concentrate on what he was saying. Something about three routes? The green weyrling recovered just in time to listen to the last choice that L‘cin gave him. And then he was holding out his hand? K‘vin stopped breathing for a while and stood frozen to the spot. Could it be that he had somehow read the signs wrong and L‘cin actually liked him the way that K‘vin liked L‘cin? Deciding to take a giant leap of faith, K‘vin moved forward to take L‘cin‘s hand, instantly reminded of when he had last touched the boy. „The coastline sounds beautiful,“ K‘vin said in a small voice. He was nearly exploding in fear that L‘cin would be disgusted with him and call off their outing, but he couldn‘t bring himself to let go. It felt so nice to be connected to L‘cin.

F‘ren looked on with awe as L‘mar smoothly got away by pretending to be more innocent than a new born babe, something that did just not fit to the L‘mar he knew, and then he simply left. And the beauty of it was that greenrider looked like he had every right to wander off and no one did anything. F‘ren could learn many things from him, he decided.
F‘ren tried to do as L‘mar, but obviously he was trying too hard because he got a suspicous glare from one of the workers, making F‘ren speed up so he would be gone before the man called him out. He caught up with L‘mar quickly and clapped him on his back. „That was brilliant L‘mar, I can‘t believe we got away. You‘re truly a master at this.“
Oh he couldn‘t wait to be out of those disgusting clothes and in the sea, so F‘ren broke into a run. Who knew how long they would have until they were discovered and hanged up on their ears in M‘ma‘s weyr. When he got to the beach he saw that thankfully no one was there. People were probably working dutifully somewhere instead of slacking off on the beach. Well their loss. F‘ren shrugged and immediately began discarding all his clothes, forgetting in his haste that Patch had been sleeping peacefully in his pocket.
When F‘ren was completely naked, he wasted no time in running to the ocean, sighing blissfully as the saltwater washed the worst dirt away. He hoped he hadn‘t freaked L‘mar out by taking his clothes off, but he didn‘t really think that he had. They were in a Weyr after all, and somehow L‘mar didn‘t seem like the prudish type.

Oh good, the human wasn’t being loud and scary and Patch could eat in peace. And what lovely meat His had given him. His was just wonderful, always so good to Patch. He wished that the bigwing would also be so nice but the bigwing was always mean to him. The little firelizard couldn’t understand why the big bronze hated him so, when all Patch wanted was for everyone in their little family to be happy and love each other.
F’ren could see that Patch was getting more comfortable, now the firelizard was focused more on eating than hiding. The poor blue had been scared half to death when they’d met a bubbly kitchen worker that had squealed and cooed over him, and finally she had pinched him. The blue had disappeared so fast into F’ren’s clothes that it had been almost like he’d gone between.
But anyways, the girl was talking and F’ren really should pay attention to her. She was worth getting to know because of her painting skills but otherwise F’ren was uninterested in her. She was a candidate but didn’t seem the type that a gold would choose. A green maybe, but then F’ren already had lots of greenrider friends. Well most of them were male so maybe it wouldn’t hurt to befriend this girl. But if she impressed a blue, F’ren was out of there. After she had drawn Eneth for him of course.
“So, have you been a candidate for a long time? Or were you just searched for Trith’s clutch that will soon be on the sands.” He didn’t think that she had been a candidate for a very long time because he’d never seen her around. Or it could just be that because F’ren was generally uninterested in candidates most of the time, he hadn’t noticed her.

Everything was ready. Toll was present and Asileth and K‘vin were ready to go. The only problem was that they had probably been ready for what seemed like nearly forever. Or maybe K‘vin was just really impatient for L‘cin to arrive. Whatever the case, K‘vin had been pacing around their small weyr, unable to sit still, Asileth‘s tail had been twitching and Toll had been lazily flying around, for a fair amount of time.
When Asileth heard Queth‘s voice in her head she would have sighed if she was able to. Normally Asileth would have preferred that Queth and his human and the little gold would not go with them to their outing. When Hers had time off, he should use it to spend time with her and the little brown, not other people and dragons. But this time was different because Hers was really excited for this and he always got a nice feeling inside when he thought about Queth‘s. And if Hers liked Queth‘s so much, Asileth supposed she could also bear Queth, at least for a little while. Hello Queth. We are ready but K‘vinmine is afraid to come out because he likes yours so much. I don‘t understand it but I will wait for him.
Finally K‘vin could hear a knock. He stood shock still and tried to calm himself before going out to meet L‘cin. „I‘m almost ready.“ K‘vin called to answer L‘cin before closing his eyes and trying to calm himself down with deep breaths. This is not a date. This is not a date. L‘cin is just a friend. This is not a date. His chanting was of no use and he was nearly bursting in excitement. He only hoped that L‘cin would think that he was only excited to have the afternoon off. Finally he could take it no longer, he had to see L‘cin.
It was with great restraint that K‘vin managed to walk quickly, and not run, outside, Asileth and Toll following him. He didn‘t succeed in wiping the smile off his face though. „Hi, L‘cin. We‘re all ready now, where are we going?“ Huh, he wasn‘t a babbling incoherent mess. He actually managed talk normally to L‘cin for once. He was just too happy about getting to spend time with the brown weyrling so there was no room for awkwardness or shyness. And K‘vin had already decided that this outing wasn‘t going to be awkward, it was just going to be two friends, hanging out and talking. Simple really.

So many more dragons had arrived, but it did not matter to Eneth. But why did that blue think he had any chance with the queen? And those browns, their hide did not shine as brilliantly as Eneth‘s and they were small. They could never father a big, strong clutch like was needed. Eneth could do that, oh yes, if Trith chose him then they would have a clutch full of handsome bronzes like him, and maybe a gold daughter too! If only Trith would stop those complicated moves, Eneth would catch her.
But as it was, Eneth‘s inexperience showed. He didn‘t even try to show off for the queen, knowing that he was having enough trouble as it was keeping up with Trith and her other suitors. Eneth‘s only hope was to catch her unawares or hope that she was impressed by his youth and shiny hide.
And there! He almost managed to touch her, but it was not to be. She did this to all the other dragons too and was not showing her favor for Eneth in any way. The anger of seeing other males come so close to touching his queen gave Eneth an extra spurt of energy and he doubled his efforts. Let the others tire themselves by trying to impress the queen, Eneth would win the flight by keeping his eyes on the prize. He would fly fast and long until the queen tired and realized that Eneth was the right choice.

„So Patch, what do you think? We can‘t sit with that girl since she‘s still a bit angry since I told her that her best friend was better in bed than her. And not that girl either because she‘s so in lust with me that I don‘t think that we‘d survive five minutes with her, let alone a whole meal. You know, having you is making me even more irresistible than before, there something about your cute self that makes girls want to know me better. You‘re probably the best wingman I‘ve ever had.“ This conversation might have looked odd to other people what with F‘ren seemingly talking to himself. Patch was out of sight in a small bag that F‘ren had started carrying everywhere with him, the firelizard wasn‘t asleep but he merely felt safe there away from all the scary twolegs with the long hairthing that shrieked when they saw him.
The decision of choosing someone to sit with was taken out of his hands when a girl sitting nearby dropped something to the floor. F‘ren, ever the gentleman immediately swooped in and picked up her book for her. He put the small bucket of meat scraps for Patch on the table and settled in opposite the girl. He made no move to give it back to her but instead smiled widely and waved at her. „Hello, my name is F‘ren of bronze Eneth and this little gentleman in hiding is Patch.“ F‘ren scooped up the small blue and put him on the table, absently feeding him small meat scraps while he opened her book and began looking at its contents. Apparently the unknown girl was an artist, that was an unusual craft and it interested F‘ren. It looked like she was a good one too, judging by the sketches of all kinds of people and firelizards. „Hey, you‘re really talented. Where did you learn?“

Oh L‘mar was here, that was good because F‘ren needed some fun and L‘mar‘s presence usually equaled fun. The chore would also be finished more quickly with a seasoned weyrling by his side instead of some candidate imbecile and he would maybe have time to go and take a thorough bath. He had only just started and already he was disgusting.
„Ah L‘mar! Thank Faranth you‘re here. This is the day that this chore is going to kill me, I just know it. I‘m going to die a slow, painful, disgusting death.“ A bit melodramatic, but then it was F‘ren who might just as well have invented the word.
F‘ren picked up some firestone and stared at it for a minute. What was he doing here? Bagging firestone was a chore fit for drudges or common weyrfolk. F‘ren was a dragonrider, and should be above nonsense like this. The bronzerider eyed L‘mar slyly. Thankfully he had been gifted with a weyrling class full of people that weren‘t afraid to have some fun. Well at least L‘mar and S‘ren weren‘t, L‘cin was a bit more restrained.
The firestone was dropped unceremoniously to the ground and F’ren walked up to L’mar until he was close enough so he wouldn’t be heard by anyone else if he kept his voice down. “I am so over chores, aren’t you? I say that we leave this miserable chore behind and go swimming in the ocean. There’s a nice, small beach not far from here where we can go if you’re up for it. I’m not skipping alone, that’s boring.” F’ren smiled hopefully at L’mar, he had been a good boy and followed the rules (mostly) since he became a weyrling, so F’ren thought that he was long overdue for some rule breaking.
((You have permission to move F’ren, if you want to.))

Eneth was sleeping when the call came. He wasn‘t in deep slumber by any means so he was roused quickly. For a while now he had known that the beautiful Trith was going to be rising soon and had been careful to never overeat because a full belly while chasing Trith just wouldn‘t do. And now the call had finally come, Trith had issued her challenge and Eneth was on his way to participate in his first flight. It was a shame that Trith had risen so soon after they graduated, so Eneth hadn‘t had the chance to practice with the pretty greens, but it couldn‘t be helped. But he had to hurry! Trith would be terribly offended if Eneth arrived late and the bronze generally tried to be in the gold‘s good graces, especially if he intended to catch her.
There was no fanfare when Eneth arrived on the feeding grounds. He was focused on the task of preparing for the flight and didn‘t want to waste precious energy beforehand by trying to impress the queen. He would show her what he was worth during the flight with his actions. Eneth made a quick job of the herdbeasts and was soon raring to go.
And indeed when Trith shot up in the sky, Eneth wasn‘t far behind. He focused completely on Trith and gave no heed to others chasing, as far as Eneth was concerned this flight was about only them and any other dragons that thought they had a chance with the lovely Trith would soon learn. He didn‘t know why he had been so silly to think that he actually liked greens better because he had clearly been wrong. Golds, and especially Trith, were beautiful and majestic and big and just generally better than some stupid greens. Never again would Eneth chase greens, he decided. And no other golds either. The young bronze was certain that no dragon could ever compare to Trith and therefore he would only chase her from now on. Well he was probably going to change his mind the next time another dragon rose but for today, this was what Eneth had decided.
F‘ren‘s eyes flew open when Eneth woke up with the intention to chase. This was the day they had been waiting for. It was no fun to ride a bronze but still be a nobody. F‘ren wanted to be a Wingleader, at the very least a Wingsecond, but being a Weyrleader would do. F‘ren smirked and jumped out of the bed, pulling on some pants before he ran out of his small weyr. It was the understatement of the century that he had a vague interest in Weyrleadership, it had been his dream since he was little and so far all his other childhood dreams had come true, so why shouldn‘t this one as well?
The flight rooms weren‘t hard to find. F‘ren had memorized the quickest route there early on in his weyrlinghood, knowing that he was going to need it someday. It paid off because he was the first one to arrive, like he had wanted to. He didn‘t know how big of a part goldriders played in deciding the outcome of flights, but if they did F‘ren was going to make sure he was Samhara‘s favorite.
But it was growing more difficult by the minute to focus on sucking up to Samhara and in the end F‘ren managed nothing but a polite greeting before merging minds with Eneth. This flight lust thing was affecting him more than F‘ren had thought it would.

Who: F'ren and L'mar! *nudges Kaemi* What: Bagging firestone when: Late morning Where: The docks. Warnings: A massive ego.
F’ren hated chores. All chores. But the chore he hated the most was bagging firestone. It made him dirty and disgusting, which F’ren detested, and it made him tired. The only bright side on this day was that Eneth had finally forgiven F’ren for going against his wishes and impressing Patch, as the firelizard had been dubbed because of his strange coloring. But that did not mean that Eneth liked Patch, oh no, Eneth hated the little blue nuisance even though Patch always tried avoiding being in Eneth’s way or annoying the bronze. When they had first met, Patch had hesitantly approached Eneth, thinking that at least this dragon was safe because he was also bonded to His, but as soon as he came close to Eneth the bronze dragon had nearly bitten his head off, literally, and the tiny blue had been forced to run for his life. As terrified as the blue was of dragons already, this incident definitely didn’t help. Now Eneth had taken to simply ignoring Patch’s presence at all times.
F’ren shook his head, he had really been hoping that Patch would force Eneth to like firelizards, but so far Eneth had shown no indication of even the tiniest bit of affection for his smaller cousins. It was certainly frustrating but F’ren had confidence that it wouldn’t always be like this. After all most of his plans tended to work. Now all he needed to do was to devise some plan to get out of this duty. But since F’ren had failed to come up with such a plan ever since he became a weyrling, he thought that he would just have to endure this disgusting chore one more time. At least it would be easier if someone he knew came to share his misery. Patch was with him but was currently sleeping in F'ren's pocket, as the firelizard had decided that the only safe place to be was on F'ren's person.
