Who: K'vin What: Changing glows. when: Late morning Where: Somewhere in the Weyr. Warnings: None. I think...
Most people hated changing glows, K‘vin knew that. So he was probably pretty weird for actually liking it. But when he was changing glows he had time to be alone with his thoughts. Or as alone as you could be with a constant presence of a green dragon in your mind and a bored firelizard on your shoulder. So he either used this time to think important matter over in his mind or he talked to Asileth. Either way was fine. He actually preferred when no one else had this chore with him.
Today‘s topic in his mind was L‘cin. Granted, it seemed like the boy was every day‘s topic, but this time he was discussing the matter with Asileth and explaining it to her. Which could be hard because dragons just didn‘t think the same way people did. Most of her sentences had so far started with ‘I don‘t understand...‘ I don‘t understand, if you like him, why do you not play and cuddle with him? K‘vin‘s ears burned at Asileth‘s wording, thankful that no one could hear it but him. "Asileth, humans don‘t play with each other when they‘re grown up." It just felt silly saying it even. Thank Faranth that no one was around. Well why not? It‘s fun. And you are not grown up Mine. You are tiny! K‘vin tried unsuccessfully to not to think of just how fun it would be to ‘play‘ with L‘cin and hurriedly changed the topic. "Besides, I can‘t just cuddle someone because I feel like it. The person has to like me back so I can ‘cuddle‘ with them. And L‘cin‘s a boy and two boys are not supposed to cuddle."
That was an old argument that he didn‘t really believe in anymore. He had pretty much accepted that yes, he did like boys and yes, it was okay to like other boys when you lived in a Weyr. And just maybe there was a slight possibility that he liked boys a tiny little bit more than girls. To be honest it made not being able to be with L‘cin easier when he convinced himself that a relationship would be wrong anyway.
If you want to cuddle a boy and the boy wants to cuddle with you, then you should cuddle! I don‘t want to cuddle with Cryth but if you want to cuddle with Queth‘s than you should! K‘vin moved on to the next glow and sighed. "Yes, but..."
((I could have made them go on forever since I‘m not expecting anyone in this thread but I decided to end it at that. So K‘vin has shown up in his chores and I won‘t be posting more here unless Lissa comes back from her hiatus in the next 15 days, which I find unlikely.))

K‘vin smiled fondly at L‘cin‘s cute babbling. Obviously the brownrider was still a bit uncomfortable being around someone, a boy, that liked him. But he was obviously trying, while making it absolutely clear that they were only going to talk and K‘vin shouldn‘t get any ideas. K‘vin frowned a little at that, did L‘cin really think that K‘vin had so little self control that he‘d jump on the unwilling brownrider? He was going to have to be extra careful to be manly and hide his interest in L‘cin, otherwise he probably would think that their friendship wasn‘t worth the hassle.
He cleared his throat and tried to look suitably disintrested without L‘cin thinking that he didn‘t actually want to go. „Yeah, yeah, sure. Asileth is always looking for opportunities to practice flying. It‘ll be fun.“ K‘vin was quite pleased with his sentence. He had managed to not stumble over his words and made it wound like he was thinking of his dragon first and foremost, giving no indication of the squeeling going on inside him about the fact that he would get to spend time with L‘cin alone. There would be no annoying bronzeriders or a whole firelizard clutch hatching to distract them. Of course then there would be nothing to distract K'vin from looking at L'cin all the time, which might be problematic if they were going to try out this whole friendship thing.

Thankfully He didn‘t seem to be offended that K‘vin hadn‘t come to the clutching. Which was good because K‘vin would hate it if He had any bad feelings about him. And He scolded S‘ren which made K‘vin feel all warm and fuzzy inside for some reason. And then He was leaning closer? K‘vin found himself actually holding his breath nervously, waiting to hear what He would say. And after He had finished K‘vin‘s face broke out into a wide grin and for five glorious seconds, K‘vin was the happiest guy on Pern. Because He liked him too! And it wasn‘t just K‘vin! And then he took a moment to process what He had actually said and his face fell. Liked talking to you... Wouldn‘t mind talking more... aren‘t embarrassed...
And it all clicked. He – no – L‘cin now if they were supposed to be friends, knew that K‘vin liked him that way, and was kind enough to offer his friendship if only K‘vin stopped acting like that around him. And if K‘vin couldn‘t be with L‘cin that way, he‘d take all he could get and he definitely wanted to be friends with L‘cin. K‘vin forced a smile that was nothing like the earlier, face-splitting grin. „Sure, I liked talking to you too. And I would like to talk to you some more.“
Sure, K‘vin had always known that he had no chance with L‘cin and had therefore accepted that fact, but when he got hope, only to lose it again, well it was disappointing to say the least.
Toll took a moment from watching the eggs anxiously to croon worriedly at his bonded who was feeling sad. Toll had no idea why he was sad, why should he be sad when all the lovely eggs were hatching? Toll quickly forgot about His however when a brown hatched and Toll puffed out in pride. What a big healthy brown it was! And he found his bonded fairly quickly which gave Toll‘s blue son incentive to go find his twolegs. Good good, three of his children had already impressed humans. Everything was going so well and Toll crooned his affection for Brillia for being the mother of such lovely children like his brown and blue sons and green daughter were. And then there came another green daughter and Toll watched her intently, waiting for her to find her twolegs.
Asileth too was busy watching the darling little ones hatch and find their bonded ones. When Hers started feeling sad she checked to see if Hers was sadsadsad or only sad. If he was only sad it could wait until after the hatching. When her bonded quickly assured her that he was only being silly and she should continue watching the hatching, she happily did so.
--//--
F‘ren laughed a little at the newly hatched brown‘s antics. That hatchling was huge and seemed much more sure of were he was going than his tiny blue brother. Unfortunately the brown passed him and settled instead on Batavia. F‘ren only felt a little disappointment, there were still plenty of hatchlings left and one of them was sure to pick him. And sure enough, the little blue finally went looking for a mind mate and settled on the bronzerider.
F‘ren first thought was that his blue had got to be one of the cutest things he had ever seen, his second thought was how incredible it was to bond to even a mere firelizard and his third thought was: Oh no. Eneth is going to be madmadmad. He simply didn‘t have time though to think about his dragon now, not when he had just joined minds with his wonderful little blue. He quickly took his blue away from all the mayhem surrounding the clutch and settled down a little ways off, quietly feeding the blue with small pieces of meat, a smile full of wonder on his face.
The blue for his part was very, very happy with his twolegs. He was very nice and was feeding him so he wasn't hungry anymore and he had taken him away from all the noise and scary twolegs. Yesyes, he had chosen well.

Did L‘cin just say that K‘vin was fine? That was um... Yeah... But K‘vin was sure that He didn‘t mean it that way, it was just a normal slip, that was all. He was a brownrider and they normally leaned more towards women, didn‘t they? Anyway, Toll was a safe subject. „Yeah... The eggs and Brilla have been all he‘s able to think of those few times he has visited me. He was very angry when I didn‘t come to the clutching. Um, by the way, I‘m sorry that I didn‘t come. I was... um, busy.“ K‘vin winced, apparently Toll wasn‘t a safe subject nowadays when he was inevitably linked to Brillia at least until the eggs hatched.
More people were arriving and it was becoming clear that there would be more people than eggs. K‘vin was of the silent opinion that the people that were bonded to no one deserved the little fire lizards more than those that were bonded to a dragon, wher or a fire lizard. But the knew that the newborns wouldn‘t be thinking of that when they impressed someone. And oh, S‘ren was here and not to impress, only to look it seemed. She seemed nice but K‘vin didn‘t really know her that well. And He was her brother so he didn‘t think that it would be a good idea to be around her, because He could be there. Oh. She definitely wasn‘t as nice as she seemed. K‘vin‘s blush that had been slowly disappearing, came back full force and he hastened to look at something that wasn‘t S‘ren or Him.
Raelwyn arrived and K‘vin couldn‘t help wishing that her Tydus would have won the flight. Everything would be so much easier. The likelihood of Toll winning the flight had been low, but yet the small brown had managed to win over bronze Tydus. He nodded stiffly at Raelwyn‘s question. „Yes. He‘s very proud.“ And left it at that. K‘vin was glad when eggs began to hatch so he could direct all his attention to the critters and forget about the humans, for the time being at least.
----////----
Oh this wasn‘t good, there were so many people now at the sands and F‘ren would really have to try hard to impress. He had to roll his eyes when Mikovren arrived. Did he seriously think that he had a chance of a firelizard? F‘ren was pretty sure that firelizards generally didn‘t choose people that were a bit crazy in the head, like Mikovren was. That man just wasn‘t normal.
The queen seemed to like his manners and she let him step closer. F‘ren smirked, his confidence growing, and went down on his knees with meat ready in his hand. A blue and a green hatched and F‘ren immediately held his hand out with the meat in it. When the green decided to impress Zanalorin instead of him, he was slightly put off and tried his hardest to keep his mind and expression open and friendly to invite the blue and his unhatched siblings to come to him.

Toll stood proudly next his lovelygold and observed the clutch. The gold was his and the eggs were his and from the eggs little firelizards would come and Toll would be their sire. If it was possible for Toll to puff out more in pride, he would do so now. His goldmate was falling asleep but Toll would do no such thing until theprettygold was awake again. Toll needed to protect his babies and he was much better at it than all the other firelizards that his beautifulgold had gotten to protect the eggs. But what was this? One of the eggs had moved! Toll crooned his worry before realizing that they were coming! The little ones were coming! Not having the restraint that his queen had, Toll flew up into the air, shrieking in happiness and did a couple of twirls before composing himself. He returned to his stunninggold and took a protective stand over the eggs, waiting for the humans to come impress his children. Humans! His bonded human must come and witness the arrival of Toll’s children! Toll winked abruptly between. --//-- K’vin was curled up to Asileth trying to explain human dining habits. I understand why a knife is used. That is to cut the meat, yes? But why do you use a frok? Why not just pick up the meat with your hands and put it into your mouth? Can you scratch that spot just over your head Mine? It itches. K’vin smiled fondly at his green and scratched obediently. He enjoyed those evening conversations with Asileth and never got tired of explaining human things to her. It’s called a fork dearest, and we use it so we don’t have to get our hands dirty, or put our dirty hands in contact with the food. Asileth was about to reply when a shrieking brown firelizard interrupted their peace and quiet. K’vin stood up with a grin to welcome Toll, he had seen very little of his firelizard since Brillia clutched. The brown seemed to think that if he was not constantly there with the clutch, something bad would happen. And K’vin had never visited Toll and the eggs since he feared that He would be there. Oh Toll had begged and pulled and pouted and scratched trying to get K’vin to go to the clutching but the weyrling hadn’t budged. He was still wrapping his mind around what had happened after the flight and he was not ready to see Him just yet. Unconsciously K’vin touched his lips with his fingers, even though all traces of Him there had long since been wiped away, K’vin could still feel His soft lips against his own. K’vin blushed like he always did at the memory. Shaking his head to rid himself of those unwanted thoughts, K’vin lifted his hand for Toll to perch on but the brown had no time to talk to his bonded. It took K’vin a while to realize what Toll was trying to say but then it dawned on him. The eggs were hatching and Toll was demanding that K’vin should go and witness the arrival of Toll’s children. K’vin shook his head softly, as much as he wanted to be there to witness Toll’s triumph, he just couldn’t go. Nonsense. Of course you will go and I will go also. I want to see the little ones and you do too. You also want to see Queth’s even though you pretend that you don’t want to. So we will go and see the tiny ones come. With both his dragon and firelizard pressuring him to go, K’vin was powerless to resist. And maybe he did want to see Him. Toll wasted no time disappearing again after making sure that His was coming, and returned to the eggs relieved that none had hatched or been hurt in his absence. Despite the situation, K’vin had to laugh a little at the fact that Brillia had chosen the hatching ground as a suitable place for the clutch. She was a queen after all. But there was nothing funny about the fact that K’vin could see Him there, sitting beside his gold. K’vin mentally steeled himself and walked determinedly towards the eggs, Brillia, Toll and Him. K’vin was slightly unsure how he should act when he was only watching but not trying to impress but decided in the end to sit a few feet away from the clutch so he wouldn’t be in the way of people trying to impress and there was little risk of doing something to anger the number of firelizards present. And well, he didn‘t exactly trust himself to be nearer Him than he already was. Realizing that he had just plopped down with Asileth beside him without saying a word to Him and Brillia, he reluctantly realized that he should probably greet them or something… “Um. Hi. Toll… Wanted me to come see. Um, is that all right?” K’vin sneaked a quick look at Him before looking down, brushing imaginary dirt from his sleeves, and that cursed blush that always insisted on appearing on his cheeks at the worst moments. ----////---- F’ren growled in frustration. Eneth was refusing to talk to him and was feigning sleep in their weyr. The bronze dragon had not taken F’ren’s news well when he had finally decided to tell the bronze that he had asked to try to impress a firelizard. If F’ren’s calculations were right, Brillia would be clutching soon so he really hadn’t been able to put off telling his bronze for much longer. He had expected Eneth to sulk a little bit and then forgive him, but Eneth had been angry, very angry and F’ren had felt his dragon seething before he had calmly told F’ren that he was very angry at him and then closing his mind to his bonded. They had never fought before and guilt gnawed at F’ren for putting his dragon in this position. But shard it, it was also Eneth’s fault. Most dragons loved having firelizards around them and many encouraged their riders to get a firelizard. But not Eneth. F’ren just couldn’t help it that he had wanted a firelizard for almost as long as he had wanted a dragon. They were cute and fun, utterly useless of course but F’ren wanted one. And what F’ren wants, F’ren gets. Besides he was sure that Eneth would come around when F’ren had impressed one. After all, impression couldn’t be taken back so Eneth would be forced to get along with the little thing. And in time Eneth would love the firelizard. And it would also be good for Eneth to have a firelizard for those times that F’ren had to be away from him. That way the bronze would always have company. F’ren gazed at his dragon, his excuses were all well and good but he hated that he had hurt Eneth and that Eneth wasn’t letting F’ren inside his mind. F’ren felt his eyes getting wet and he cursed himself for being such a baby. He tentatively approached Eneth and settled against the bronze, the warmth and physical presence of Eneth comforting F’ren while he cried and begged Eneth to talk to him. He felt the bronze slowly relenting and opening his mind and smiled trough his tears. Just as he anticipated Eneth’s warm voice resonating in his head, another dragon spoke to him and when Eneth realized what Queth was saying, he promptly closed himself off again. F’ren hated himself for doing this but all the same, he stood up and left Eneth for the hatching sands. Today would be the day that F’ren would impress a firelizard and nothing would get in the way of that. He hoped that there were not many others trying to impress, but regardless of numbers, F’ren was a bronze dragonrider so he was confident in his own ability to impress a little firelizard. F‘ren arrived at the hatching sands out of breath after running there after taking a slight detour to the kitchens. He wasn‘t sure if there would be meat already there so he thought it would be best to bring some himself just in case. He saw that Brillia had apparently commanded a large portion of the Weyr’s firelizards to come and watch over the eggs and it seemed that everywhere he looked there were firelizards. Already a woman he didn‘t recognize and a boy who‘s name began Z or something, he wasn’t sure, were there. And of course L‘cin and K‘vin with their dragons and firelizards. F‘ren smirked at the memory of them in the common area, trying to fight of mini-flightlust. It had been very entertaining to say in the least.
He approached the miniature queen and bowed deeply to her. Granted this was not a dragon hatching with all the formalities, but it was only polite to show one‘s respect for the mother. „Good evening Brillia, L‘cin. So, how does this work?“

Oops, I always meant to reply to this but I forgot. But anyway, personally I would prefer Toll not to age because then he wouldn't fit in K'vin's history. But since I haven't actually written Toll into K'vin's history yet *facepalm* other than where I mention when K'vin impressed him, I would also be with ok with him aging. I voted 'no' though.

K‘vin turned and grinned when he heard a familiar voice. K‘ron seemed to be in a good mood, after all how could he not? He had impressed Calzanth only yesterday. „Good morning K‘ron. You don‘t look as tired from last night‘s festivities as some do, or did you not go?“ K‘vin hadn‘t gone but he didn‘t regret it in the slightest. He had found a new friend in Lialla, who was someone K‘vin could tell things that he‘d never be able to tell K‘ron.
How was he feeling? It was simply indescribable what he was feeling, but then again he didn‘t think that he needed to explain that to K‘ron. „I‘m feeling... Oh Faranth! It‘s amazing isn‘t it? This feeling. I‘m still getting used to this sense of being whole at last.“ He stared lovingly at his green tearing a piece of meat apart. „Asileth... Is amazing.“ He stared at her for a little while before remembering his manners and hastily turning back to K‘ron. „Calzanth looks good also. He‘s big for a brown isn‘t he?“
After stealing a bit of meat from the greenbigwing Toll abandoned her in favor of the green that was his size. Yumi was a pretty green and Toll flew to her chirping his greeting. He playfully nudged the green and quickly flew away before advancing and nudging Yumi again. He then flew away again and waited for Yumi to play with him.
Oh Calzanth was here! That was very lovely. Calzanth was her specialbrown and she liked him the most of all the other dragons. Hello Calzanth. How are you? Are you hungry? I was hungry but then K‘vinmine fed me this lovely meat and I‘m not as hungry as before. She nudged Hers impatiently. He shouldn‘t forget her just because Calzanth‘s was here! She wasn‘t forgetting to eat jus because Calzanth was here, even if he was special. Sorry love. Here you are. And why is Calzanth so special? Is it because K‘ron and I are friends? Asileth pondered this before dismissing the question as silly. Calzanth just is special. I like him. He‘s my specialbrown.
K‘vin snorted at Asileth‘s answer. She didn‘t seem to be very keen on talking to other dragons and had only reluctantly been drawn into conversation with Cryth, but for some reason Calzanth was ‘special´. „Asileth really likes Calzanth. She says he‘s his specialbrown.“ K‘vin told K‘ron smiling.

Ah, so it seemed a big part of R‘nen‘s problem was the actual writing. Well F‘ren could easily help with that. He had known since he was six Turns old that he was going to be a bronze rider like his father. He had also decided when he was ten that he was going to be a Weyrleader. Bronze riders, and especially bronze riders of rank needed to be able to read and write well. Therefore it had been in F‘ren‘s best interest to master reading and writing. He was quite good at putting his thoughts down on paper, the skill hadn‘t come easily to him but F‘ren had practiced and practiced until he decided he had sufficient skill.
„Well fear not my darling! F‘ren is here, as always, to save the day!“ F‘ren puffed out his chest and grinned at R‘nen before going back to normal. „I‘m actually really good at writing, I can write for you if you like and you can just tell me what you want to say. Plus, my handwriting is beautiful if I do say so myself. I‘ve always been good with my hands.“ F‘ren took a moment to admire his hands, tanned and smooth, just the way he liked them. He frowned when he saw a little dirt under one of his nails and quickly removed it before looking up at R‘nen. „So what do you say? Want to enlist my hands?“ It didn‘t even occur to F‘ren that R‘nen would maybe prefer writing the letter himself. F‘ren always accepted help if it was offered, no sense in trying to do something yourself when it could be much easier with help.

K‘vin‘s head was spinning. There seemed to be scantily clad people gyrating their hips everywhere. K‘vin blushed at a particularly suggestive move by one of the male dancers and wondered what his father would have said about this atrocious behavior. He giggled a little of the mental image of his father in this setting and then decided to put him out of his mind. K‘vin was having fun and he didn‘t want his father spoiling it.
He found it easier to focus on the main stage, rather than the performers that were in the crowd. When watching the main stage he didn‘t need to be focused on one person doing things that made K‘vin blush despite himself. He had been really trying to rid himself of his prudish Hold mentality and embrace the wild Weyr environment, but it was easier said than done.
K‘vin had been so focused watching the stage that he didn‘t notice the female dancer coming near him until she started dancing around him? That couldn‘t be right, she couldn‘t be focusing on him of all people. That wink wasn‘t aimed at him, right? But it clearly was and K‘vin blushed right down to his toes and tried to disappear into his seat. This was so embarrassing. Why it was embarrassing K‘vin didn‘t know, but it definitely was. He tried to look everywhere but her, without turning away because that would make him look like a coward, but it was hard not to stare at her, considering she was dancing right in front of him.
At least he could thank Faranth for that it was a girl and not a man. That made it slightly easier but still, why was she still here? Was she teasing him? Oh, he hoped that she would go and torture someone else instead.

Oh Faranth. Did L‘cin realize how cute he looked when he did that? K‘vin shook his head and was thankfully saved from awkward blushing and/or staring when L‘cin asked him about Asileth. K‘vin‘s eyes lit up and he smiled goofily. There was nothing he loved more than talking about his green beauty. „Yes Asileth. And she‘s great, just great. She‘s grown so much and I feel like there‘s more to oil every day, of course she isn‘t as big as the blues and browns and bronzes but she‘s still enough more than enough for me. She nearly always claims she‘s hungry and always wants me to feed her more but I tell her that then she‘ll get fat and Asileth doesn‘t want to be fat because she wants to be the prettiest and fastest green in the Weyr and-„ K‘vin‘s enthusiastic ramblings were cut short when he realized that L‘cin had probably only asked a polite question that only required a one sentence answers. He bit his lip and blushed uncontrollably. He always managed to make a fool of himself somehow when conversing with boys. He either couldn‘t get any words out or got too many words out. The result always being the same: the other boy would look at him strangely and suddenly remember something he had forgotten somewhere.
He had to salvage this situation somehow. It was only polite to ask L‘cin about Queth and perhaps the other boy would forget about K‘vin embarrassing himself earlier. „So... Uhm... How‘s Queth?“ K‘vin groaned inwardly. That hadn‘t been quite the elegant save he had been aiming for. Apparently he was unable to talk properly today.
Just when K‘vin thought that this day couldn‘t possibly get worse, F‘ren turned to him and started talking about... flights... Fortunately K‘vin didn‘t seem to be the only one uncomfortable with the topic as he noticed that L‘cin blushed too. That made it easier for K‘vin somehow. But still, this was not a topic that would make K‘vin feel more at ease. Didn‘t he look forward to her first Flight? Um, NO! But what could he say? „Uhm, hehe. Asileth Rising. Fun. Crazy fun. Looking forward to it. Yeah.“ Looking back at all the times K‘vin had opened his mouth today, he had a hard time picking what had been the worst sentence that K‘vin had blurted out. In the end he had to decide that they were all equally horrible and K‘vin should consider faking a loss of ability to speak so he would never have to go through something like this again.
--//--
This. Was. Too. Much. Fun. F‘ren really didn‘t know which entertained him more: watching the awkward conversation between the boys that F‘ren found scarily similar or teasing them with topics that the bronze weyrling knew they were uncomfortable with. And did L‘cin just eye-flirt with the adorable boy that seemed unable to talk coherently?
And their answers to F‘ren‘s questions did certainly not disappoint. F‘ren had a hard time keeping from laughing out loud at the boys when they mumbled out their awkward answers. If F‘ren hadn‘t been holding a dish in his hand, he would have rubbed his hands together in glee. What made this situation even more deliciously fun was the fact that F‘ren was 99% sure that both of them were at least bisexual if not completely gay. It hadn‘t been hard to figure out really, F‘ren was pretty sure that L‘cin found him attractive (like most sane people) and the other boy certainly did, if his lack of speaking abilities and staring around F‘ren were anything to go by. Them both liking men, and both appearing uncomfortable with it, made some interesting opportunities for F‘ren.
„Say K‘vin, don‘t you have a brown firelizard? Isn‘t he mature enough to participate in a flight? Since I don‘t have a firelizard to chase Brillia, you must act in my stead and let your Brown chase, and win of course. We can‘t have some big brutes defiling our sweet little L‘cin here, can we?“ He winked outrageously at the green weyrling and laughed to himself. Oh how he looked forward to see how L‘cin would cope with Brillia rising. He sincerely hoped that the boy wouldn‘t get the ridiculous notion in his head to lock himself away in his weyr. That would severely damage the entertainment opportunities of L‘cin in miniature flight lust.

What? That brown and blue thought they had any chance of catching the majestic queen? They, and that bronze and all other firelizards except Toll, were not worthy of such a beauty as this gold was. Toll would show them, oh yes he would. The brown wasn‘t in the least bit worried about the fact that he was the smallest of those chasing, even smaller than that blue, it just meant that he was faster and more agile than the others. Even with his inexperience with flights, Toll realized that if he were to win this flight he would have to do it fast.
When his gold dived, Toll followed her smoothly, full of glee. That big clumsy bronze and the other ones, they wouldn‘t be able to follow the queen so masterfully as Toll could. And then she started darting around and Toll tried to the best of his ability to follow her every move, but to his frustration, he couldn‘t quite keep up with the energetic gold who flicked him with her tail but still managed to fly easily away from Toll. This wouldn‘t do, he‘d have to show her somehow why Toll was the best of her suitors. He started twirling around too, making tricky moves in the hope that his show would please the queen. Unfortunately though, his antics made him slow down and he instantly started focusing on flying as fast as he could. He had to catch her soon!
--//--
When Asileth started waking up she wasn‘t particularly worried. Sure she was a bit confused about what was happening to her rider but through their bond she could feel that Hers wasn‘t feeling that bad. But then he started hurting himself and Asileth immediately knew that something was terribly wrong. She was so scared for Hers and wanted him to come to her now so she could protect him. MINE! Mine, stop hurting yourself! [/i]
It had worked, K‘vin observed dizzily. Sure he was about to kneel over and had a terrible headache but all in all K‘vin was rather pleased with himself. He stopped for a moment at Asileth‘s distressed call, his green was clearly worried about him and now that he had the situation under control K‘vin had every intention of going to her and show her that nothing was wrong. Except... he didn‘t feel dizzy anymore. And his headache was disappearing. He sent a quick thought to Asileth to tell her not to worry before smacking his head back against the wall. He was going to repeat the motion when his head thumped against something soft instead.
K‘vin opened his eyes in confusion to identify the person that had dared go between him and his wall. M‘ma. All thoughts about a wall disappeared because, M‘ma was there. And M‘ma was just so much better than a wall. K‘vin sighed in relief, he felt much better already with the comforting presence of the Weyrling Master. He was always so kind and good and his speech was doing wonders already and what was that?
A finger, L‘cin‘s finger, had just stroked the back of K‘vin‘s neck. K‘vin found himself actually closing his eyes and shivered pleasantly at the touch. For a moment he was Toll, chasing the beautiful gold Brilla urgently and found himself wishing that Toll would actually win the flight. And then he was back in the Weyrling Barracks with M‘ma and a red-faced L‘cin.
K‘vin turned around quickly and stared open-mouthed at L‘cin, who was so different now. And the way that L‘cin teased him, that was nothing like the shy weyrling he‘d met during kitchen duty. A large part of K‘vin wanted to do something to reciprocate, but common sense won over. L’cin obviously regretted the gesture and well, M’ma was there. He turned around to stare at M’ma instead of L’cin since he didn’t think that was safe anymore. “M’ma? Why am I feeling like this? It’s only a firelizard flight. Schorch it, it’s only a firelizard flight! They’re supposed to be safe, especially since Toll probably doesn’t have any chance of actually winning the sharding flight, but still I feel like this and I want…” K’vin looked away, his face burning because of what he had been going to say. He had been on the verge of admitting to M’ma, and L’cin too, that he actually wanted Toll to win Brillia so K’vin could win… No. He wasn’t going to go further with this thought because, just no.
No. No. No. This was just a practice flight and Toll was not supposed to catch anybody. It was a small comfort though, that Toll was a brown, and a small one at that and inexperienced, and was unlikely to catch a gold firelizard so K’vin would most likely not have to face the consequences of Toll winning a flight. That was a good thing. But why was he so disappointed at the thought?

This was nice, K‘vin decided while scratching Toll‘s eye ridges. He really had been neglecting his loyal friend for the past four months. But now Asileth was sleeping and K‘vin had free time. He had taken Toll and gone over to the common area in the Weyrling Barracks. There he had taken his time oiling the brown firelizard carefully and since he finished he had been stroking and scratching Toll, just content in spending time with him.
--//--
It felt so nice when his human scratched his eye ridges like that. Toll couldn‘t me more content than he was now. He had taken a bath while His was away earlier and played with a couple of greens. And then he had been reunited with His twolegs and His greenbigwing. The greenbigwing hadn‘t been much fun, she had gone to sleep even though Toll wanted to talk to her, but it was ok because His had taken him and oiled him nicely and now he was scratching a particularly itchy spot. Toll had nearly fallen asleep when suddenly he flew up in excitement before settling on His‘ shoulder and chirping excitedly in His‘ ear. The beautiful Queen was rising! Toll so wanted to go and catch her because she belonged to him, and no one else was allowed to have her!
--//--
K’vin panicked at Toll’s sudden movements for moment before gulping nervously when he understood from Toll‘s chaotic thoughts that he wanted to chase Brillia, L‘cin‘s gold. Toll had never chased before. There weren‘t as many firelizards in the Healer Hall as there were in the Weyr, but there had been opportunities for Toll. But K‘vin had always begged his brown not to chase and Toll had always grudgingly obeyed in both in green and gold flights, although K‘vin had had to really concentrate on getting Toll to stay during goldflights. Toll had understood that it would hurt His if he chased and therefore never went against K’vin’s will because K’vin’s wellbeing mattered most.
But since K‘vin had impressed Asileth a lot of things had changed. K‘vin had come to terms with it that Asileth would eventually rise and he fully expected it to be a terrifying experience. Which was why an idea had formed in his head a while ago to practice with Toll. Firelizard flights didn‘t affect one as much as dragonflights did and given Toll‘s inexperience he would most likely not win the flight. So K‘vin would get a small dose of the feelings he would get when Asileth would rise and no harm would be done.
--//--
Sensing that he would get no objection from His, Toll wasted no time disappearing between to follow his beautiful queen. Finally he would be able to chase – and catch – one of the female beauties. But this gold wasn‘t to be confused with the small greens and the duller golds! Oh no, Brillia outshone them all in brilliance and beauty!
And there she was, flying so majestically, gliding so beautifully. He had to have her! He alone deserved her. Toll was angered when he saw that already a bronze was chasing Brillia. No, he could absolutely not have her. He called to her to let her know how beautiful he thought she was and couldn‘t she see, that even though the bronze‘s hide could shine and Toll‘s couldn‘t, Toll was so much better than him?
--//--
Oh. This was affecting him. Uncomfortably so. K‘vin suddenly stood up and started wandering about. He had to do something to distract himself from these feelings. While looking frantically around him for something to do he realized for the first time that L‘cin was also there. He stared for a while, resisting the strange urge to go and throw himself at the brown weyrling before he turned away from him to go to the nearest wall where he promptly began to bang his head against the wall in the hopes that hurting himself would make him forget other things. He could feel that Asileth was waking up, confused about her rider‘s feelings and quickly decided to flee to her. As soon as he was done banging his head up.
