K‘vin‘s boyish face lit up with a bright smile. She really did want him here, something that made K‘vin very happy. So far the only person that he knew well was K‘ron. There were L‘mar, H‘seo and S‘lain too, but he hardly knew them that well. Besides they were all men and it didn‘t hurt to know a woman as well.
He furrowed his brow in confusion. Why would he want to leave? He had been the one to join her and Cryth, not the other way around. Perhaps he hadn‘t talked enough. Perhaps she thought that he didn‘t like her. He knew that people sometimes mistook his initial quiet demeanor as a sign of dislike.
„No, not at all! Please stay.“ K‘vin smiled tentatively at Lialla. „I don‘t know many people here and I only know one other greenrider, L‘mar, but he‘s a senior weyrling.“ L‘mar... He was a male greenrider. Surely he would understand K‘vin‘s fears about mating flights. Maybe it would help to talk to him. But K‘vin quickly decided not to try male greenrider bonding with L‘mar when a mischievously smiling L‘mar invaded his memory. For some reason he didn‘t think that L‘mar would understand him. Maybe Lialla might, granted she was a girl so she didn‘t have it nearly as bad as K‘vin, but she was still better than no one. But K‘vin also had it extra bad, considering he was a virgin. Probably the only weyrling that was one, well, hopefully with the exception of C‘ko.
„Lialla? I... Um... Do you... Ehrm, never mind.“ K‘vin felt like his face was on fire and he was sure it looked like it too. It was one thing to be comfortable with Lialla, another thing to be comfortable enough with someone to discuss what happened in greenflights. Intercourse, intercourse, intercourse. Maybe thinking the word would make him more comfortable with it. Intercourse, intercourse, homosexual intercourse. K‘vin squeaked and he turned even redder than before. Nope, it didn‘t help.
Mine? What is homosexual intercourse? Asileth looked at her bonded in confusion but got no answer. Hers seemed preoccupied with something on the floor. Asileth was also busy conversing with her clutchsister. It seemed that she had offended her again. Asileth really, really didn‘t mean to. Nononono clutchsister Cryth. I was just angry at the thought of someone hating K‘vinmine. I still like you

He wasn‘t really sure if Lialla wanted him here. She had after all not gone to the feast, and maybe that was a sign that she wanted to be alone. And she even seemed to forget him for a little while. K‘vin bit his lip and peered at Lialla nervously. „Lialla? Do you perhaps want to be by yourself. I mean with Cryth of course. You‘ll never be really by yourself when you‘re bonded to a dragon. Not that anyone in their right mind would be bothered by having a dragon in their minds all the time...“ K‘vin laughed nervously and looked away, a blush adorning his tanned cheeks. Just when he thought he had reached comfort level with Lialla, she didn‘t seem to want him here and he made a fool out of himself by rambling on and on.
It was just as good that Cryth didn‘t hate Hers. Asileth growled a little at the thought before calming down by gazing lovingly at Hers. Wasn‘t he just perfect? Toll realized that Asileth was thinking warmly about His and crooned his agreement. Asileth was a little worried though that Theirs was much smaller than the other twolegs around the Weyr. But he could probably beat anyone in a fight. He just didn‘t look like it. Asileth decided, just in case, to keep an extra close eye on Hers.

„I‘ve been here for three months.“ Wow. He hadn‘t realized it had been so long. It seemed like it was only yesterday that he arrived in Cerulean on Jaxith‘s back. It had been hard at first to settle in. Weyrlife was so different from Hold and Craft life, but eventually K‘vin had grown used to everything. He could roam the Weyr with familiarity and was even friendly with a few people. And now that he had Asileth, his life seemed to be complete. „And you? How long have you been here? Are you perhaps weyrbred?“
Lialla was comfortable to talk to, K‘vin decided. She was like K‘ron. She could hold a conversation and was nice and she was calm. Like K‘ron. K‘vin often didn‘t know how to act around people who were always excitable and all over the place, they made him nervous. But Lialla, she managed to make K‘vin at ease. Plus she was a woman.
All right. So her clutchsister wanted to talk. Then Asileth would also talk. Maybe it would be nice to have a clutchsister for a friend. No I don‘t hate you clutchsisterCryth. Mine doesn‘t hate Yours so I don‘t hate Yours or you. [/i] Asileth didn‘t want to make Cryth feel bad, so even though she‘d much rather focus her attention on Toll, she reluctantly gave Cryth her full attention.

We are fairing very well thank you. Mine is not so sleepy now but he was when he woke up. He thinks it‘s fun to have the new ones. I think so too. Do you? But now I‘m not the only bronze here anymore. And there are three new greens! But none of them is as beautiful as you Dalisth. [/i] Eneth wasn‘t really sure about that bronze. He knew that the new bronze wasn‘t as handsome and clever as he was but he was still slightly scared that the new one would steal all the greens.
F‘ren looked at the boy that L‘mar had pointed out. So that was the infamous boy with the imaginary firelizard. To be honest F‘ren wasn‘t very interested in talking to the boy. He wouldn‘t know how to act around a person that was quite clearly crazy. Hopefully the boy would grow out of it, F‘ren didn‘t see how a boy that saw things that weren‘t there would be allowed to fight thread in the future.
F‘ren listened obediently to everything that M‘ma said but grew more bored with every word. He had heard all this before. And he didn‘t like those stupid rules more now than he had when he first heard them. He could tolerate the no alcohol thing, it was annoying but not unbearable. But the ban on intercourse was a pain. F‘ren had been celibate for much too long and he was starting to get very inpatient. Fortunately, the wait for weyrlinghood to be done was almost over.
He led Eneth away from the younger weyrlings and M‘ma, he was slightly disappointed that he wouldn‘t get a chance to talk to the new weyrlings but understood the reason. As he tended to Eneth‘s needs, he watched his fellow weyrlings. S‘ren didn‘t seem to be particularly fresh and F‘ren winced in sympathy. He wasn‘t unfamiliar with the woes of being hung over but unlike S‘ren, he had been a good boy and hadn‘t been drunk in a long time. „I assume you had fun last night, didn‘t you? At least I hope for your sake you did or your headache would so not be worth it.“ He was well aware that she probably wasn‘t in the mood for talking, but that only made it more fun for him.
--//--
K‘vin eagerly gave M‘ma all his attention when the Weyrlingmaster started talking. He drank in every word and made sure to memorize all the rules. He wasn‘t going to mess this up. He was going to make sure that Asileth was the happiest and healthiest dragon in the Weyr. He had no problem with the rules. He had never had a drop of alcohol in his life and wasn‘t planning too. He had seen how people acted when they were intoxicated and had no desire to make a fool of himself. No fights weren‘t a problem either. K‘vin was not a violent man by any means and he would probably lose any fight he engaged in anyway.
Intimate relationships. K‘vin didn‘t mind that ban in the least. He was not ready for such things and appreciated every delay. Even if it was inevitable that it would happen soon. He was all too aware of the fact that Asileth was a green and nothing could stop her from rising when she matured. And she would rise often. K‘vin shuddered at the thought. Maybe he could persuade her to rise later when K‘vin was ready? He pushed all thoughts of intimate relationships out of his head and focused on M‘ma again who was outlining their schedule.
Finally! I‘m soooooooooo hungry Mine. [/i] Was Asileth‘s gleeful response when M‘ma pointed to the carcasses and instructed them to feed the dragons. K‘vin carefully picked one of the smaller carcasses and started carving the meat while Asileth twitched impatiently beside him. Thankfully he wasn‘t disgusted by the bloody carcass, his healer training had made sure that he wasn‘t squeamish. He was careful to try to not overfeed Asileth but it was hard with Asileth constantly bumping her head against K‘vin to demand more meat.

Kivin shrugged at L‘mar‘s question. "It was okay." He didn‘t know what else to say. Had he liked the stay in the Healer Hall? Sure, compared to Silver Cove Hold the Hall was definitely better. He had enjoyed learning his craft but his time there certainly hadn‘t been very pleasant. Here in Cerulean however, Kivin truly enjoyed himself. He had yet to meet a person that was anything but nice to him and the whole living with dragons thing was just simply amazing. He knew that he was definitely not going back even if he didn‘t impress. There were Healers here that he could learn from and judging by S‘lain, they were a lot more pleasant than his old Masters.
L‘mar had a firelizard too? Kivin couldn‘t help being a little envious, a flitter and a dragon? L‘mar was a lucky boy indeed. He really couldn‘t help the weyrling with the naming thing though, as he hadn‘t named his own. "Sorry but I didn‘t name mine. I couldn‘t find a good name for him at first and once when I came back to Toll from helping my father he had been playing with the small children in the Hold who had started calling him Toll. I have no idea which of them decided it was his name or why they chose that name, but it stuck." He shrugged, he didn‘t really mind that he hadn‘t named his brown. Toll was just Toll and he couldn‘t imagine another name on him now.
Chop, chop, chop. Kivin had settled into a routine where his hands could work on their own accord while his mind was somewhere else entirely. He listened to the boys talking but also thought about entirely other things. Like how things were in Silver Cove Hold now, it was always beautiful there in the summers. What would whers be like? Should he try for a wher if he wouldn‘t succeed in impressing a dragon? He liked kitchen duty. It was certainly more fun than changing glows or working at the docks. Without noticing he stopped listening to the boys and his face took on a dreamy expression while his hands worked efficiently.
[[OOC: Toll is actually named Toll because it means great, fantastic etc. in German.]]

Hi all! It's me, you know the one who hasn't been replying to posts for a while... And I won't until Sunday For the past few days I've always thought I was going to have loads of time to write but before I knew it the day was always done and I had written nothing. The weather's been so good that I spend all my time outside when I'm not at work. The thing is that when you live in a country that actually has "ice" in it's name, you kind of have to take every sunny day you can. As a result, me and the family are going camping until Sunday. So I'll be back then. So sorry, I'll try to be very quick in catching up on Sunday. EDIT: Just realized I have work on Sunday... So Monday it is.

The Northern Continent... F‘ren shuddered. He couldn‘t imagine living there. He hadn‘t even been to the Northern Continent before and didn‘t have much desire to go there either. F‘ren thrived in the warm southern atmosphere, where it was almost never cold and he loved the lush greenery and clear, warm seas of the South. But when Eneth and him would finally learn how to fly and go between he supposed a visit to the North might be in order. But he would visit during summertime, that much was for sure. „I‘m glad that you have managed to fit so well in here, I love it here too. Of course I loved being in Silver Cove too.“ The Weyrling fell silent. He had become very good at making himself forget what happened in Silver Cove, but occasionally some small thing would make him remember. Sometimes he let himself remember his friends that were now gone but only when he had Eneth by his side. Now was not a time for such somber thoughts and F’ren forced everything Silver Cove related to the back of his mind. But this time, when he smiled at Rael, his normal cheerful grin was a bit forced and it didn‘t reach his eyes.
It seemed that Rael had not noticed his... Eyebrow episode. Because she continued talking as nothing had happened, which was a relief. At her explanation, F‘ren nodded. Of course Tydus was just like a typical bronze. F‘ren was very familiar with his own dragon‘s ego, and if he was honest, his own as well. He wasn‘t very bothered with it. Bronzeriders were supposed to be egotistical. They had a right to be, as the riders of the biggest, best and most clever dragons after golds. Not everyone was good enough to impress a bronze, you had to be special to get a bronze to bond to you. And F‘ren wasn‘t blind, he knew that he was handsome, clever and strong minded. Those were the traits that had attracted Eneth to him.
„Yes, a weaver indeed. I learned from an old woman in the Weyr that used to work in the kitchens but was too old to be of any help anymore. So she taught a few of us how to weave to make herself useful. I was her favorite pupil. Although I think that had more to do with my dazzling smile and charm than my weaving capabilities. But I learned the trade well enough I suppose.“ He remembered that woman fondly. It was true that she had liked F‘ren more than many other people but the feeling had been mutual. Over time she had actually become one of his best friends in the Weyr and had helped him a lot after failed hatchings when he felt worthless.
He laughed to himself when he saw Rael blushing again but quickly forgot it when she started singing. Her firelizard seemed to appreciate it and so did F‘ren, who worked quickly but let his mind be occupied by Rael‘s voice. It was soothing and also distracted from the boring act of changing glows. F‘ren said nothing while she sang but instead smiled encouragingly at Rael before focusing again on the glows.

K‘vin took Lialla‘s hand shyly but tried to make the handshake firm so he wouldn‘t look like a wimp in front of the girl that was unfortunately bigger than him. "Thank you, and congratulations to you too. My name is K‘vin and those two over there are Asileth and Toll,“ he nodded his head in the direction of the green and brown. He found it easier to talk to Lialla than many other people he had already met in the Weyr. The fact that they were equals, both weyrling green riders, and the fact that she was a girl made K‘vin more at ease. He didn‘t feel as nervous around girls as he often did around boys. Lialla also seemed to be the calm, easy going type and he liked that about her. But what should he say next? Something nice or clever or funny seemed in order but all K‘vin could do was smile feebly at the girl and hope that she was a talker.
Well her clutchsister was talking to her. That meant she would have to talk as well. It‘s not that Asileth minded terribly, but Cryth just wasn‘t the same as Calzanth. Oh well, it might be nice to make friends. Greetings Cryth. There. She had greeted Cryth so hopefully the other green wouldn‘t be offended but Asileth had no big desire to go into a long winded conversation with Cryth however she would talk more to Cryth if she was talked to. In the meantime she turned back to Toll who had been waiting impatiently for her to pay attention again to his pictures of Weyr inhabitants. He showed her pictures of a green that while the same color as Asileth, wasn‘t a bigwing. He tried to tell her trough happy thoughts that he liked the little green but he liked her, the bigwing, also. Asileth sent a happy emotion back to tell him that she liked him also. Not as much as she liked Hers, but she still liked Toll.

F’ren wasn’t convinced that Ranen was okay but he let it slide. There wasn’t anything that he could do or say anyway to make it better. When his best friend had impressed back at Southern, F’ren had been happy, if a little jealous, for him but as the days flew by F’ren had started to distance himself from his friend who had found a new best friend in his dragon. Sure the friend had been nice to him and had always tried to include F’ren but sometimes in a middle of a conversation he would grin goofily and not listen to F’ren for a long while before hurriedly apologizing. In the end the pain had become almost too much to take and in his last Turn at Southern they’re once close friendship had been reduced to nodding in acknowledgement when they passed each other. F’ren really did not want that to happen with Ranen and promised himself to be careful from now on. Of course it would just be easiest if Ranen would impress one of the dragons from the transfer clutch.
“Splendid! I don’t like oiling much to be honest with you, but every task is more fun if you have a friend by your side. Because that’s what we are, right? Friends?” F’ren held his hand out for Ranen to shake to establish their friendship. It was so much fun to make new friends and he didn’t have that many of them in Cerulean. He looked down on his plate, that was now empty. He had probably spent too much time here already. A weyrling didn’t have a lot of free time and his was almost over. He looked regretfully at Ranen. “I have to go now. I’m probably late already for chores so I can’t afford to spend more time here, but it was very nice to meet you Ranen. If we don’t meet again before the hatching, then good luck. I’ll be rooting for you. And I’m confident that it won’t be long until you’re R’nen or R’en or something like that.” He stood up and tried to grin a confidence-boosting grin to pep up Ranen but he decided that it wasn’t enough and walked around the table to Ranen before enveloping him in a hug. F’ren never thought much of touching people and he thought that Ranen just needed a hug right now. He just hoped that his holdbred friend didn’t think hugging was weird, because F’ren liked to hug people he cared about. A lot.

Kivin watched Toll as the brown graciously allowed H‘seo to scratch him. He was indeed handsome as Kheron had said and Kivin felt proud of being bonded to the firelizard. He had never loved anyone as much as him and he knew that even if he wouldn‘t impress, he wouldn‘t be that disappointed because he already was bonded to someone. Well Toll wasn‘t big and Kivin couldn‘t fly on him and they couldn‘t talk to each other but otherwise Toll was almost as good as a dragon.
It wasn‘t long before Kheron‘s own firelizard appeared and she was just as lovely as Kivin remembered. She was big for a green while Toll was small for a brown so the difference in sizes wasn‘t very big. Kivin stood up to go closer to Kheron and Yumi and smiled cheerfully at the green. "Hello Yumi, you‘re a very beautiful green aren‘t you?" Toll apparently agreed because after basking in H‘seo‘s attention for a while he left the bluerider to go inspect Yumi. Toll landed on Kivin‘s shoulder and watched the green firelizard for a while before he flew up in the air to go closer to Yumi, making exciting noises.
Kivin smiled at Toll‘s antics. He was constantly amazed by his brown‘s ability to go up to people, dragons or firelizards and instantly make friends with them. There was not a shy bone in Toll‘s body, contrary to Kivin. Although Kivin was rather pleased with himself today. He had made the first move in getting to know those two here and it was going so well too. He decided that he definitely wanted to get to know those two better. Kivin was a very curious young man. "How old are you? Do you have a family?" He looked at both H‘seo and Kheron to make it clear that he was asking both of them.

K‘vin really did not want to go to the feast. There were going to be lots and lots of people and the evening would be full of awkward conversations at best but most likely K‘vin would have to spend the evening alone in the corner because he would be to shy to start a conversation with anyone. Then don‘t go K‘vinmine. Asileth made it sound so simple... And why not? It wasn‘t as if many people would miss him. And it was not only that the feast itself would be a torture, there was also the fact that so soon after impressing Asileth K‘vin wanted nothing more than to spend time with her in peace and quiet. He wanted to spend every waking moment with her and wasn‘t planning on going to sleep anytime soon. You wouldn‘t mind? Of course I don‘t mind silly Mine. You are much more fun than everyone else. Besides you promised me that I would meet the little one. Oh yes, you‘re right. I‘m certain that you and Toll will love each other.
As if he sensed that he was being talked about, a brown firelizard appeared in the air, chirping curiously. He had been bored out if his mind since His had left to fetch the green bigwing. Toll had dutifully stayed put away from His as His had istructed but now sensed that he was welcome again. And now instead of settling down on his usual spot on His shoulder he approached the bigwing who regarded him curiously.
K‘vin couldn‘t see what they were discussing with pictures but it looked like they accepted each other, Toll at least settled on Asileth after a while and they continued communicating. The new weyrling led his two bonded ones to the main area of the Weyrling barracks, focusing all his attention on the pair before he noticed that they were not the only ones there as he had expected. K‘vin had thought that everyone wanted to be out celebrating but apparently another new greenpair had also decided to skip the festivities.
Asileth saw that there was one of her clutch sisters nearby but she instead decided to continue conversing with Toll, perhaps rudely ignoring the other green. A part of K‘vin wanted to do the same thing as his green but he didn‘t think that he would get away with being so rude. Besides, he actually wanted to get to know the girls that had also impressed greens and there was one of them. He wasn‘t particularly keen on being the first one to speak however. K‘vin ended up settling down near the girl, but not too near, and smiling tentatively. „Hi.“ Perhaps not a very good greeting but he didn‘t want to disturb the girl if she didn‘t want to talk and she could either ignore him or also greet him and maybe talk to him. The ball was in her hands really.

Well L‘mar seemed to have gotten over what happened at Silver Cove. If it were Kivin, he wouldn‘t be able to be so cheerful while talking about the tragedy but it was good to know that L‘mar wasn‘t suffering from bad memories. He was starting to like L‘mar. He was chatty like Kheron sot it there were no awkward silences even though Kivin wasn‘t talking much. He liked to just listen to them talking while he chopped but he guessed it would be kind of rude not to talk to them. He was kind of nervous though about what L‘mar said about him still being allowed in the kitchen. Why wouldn‘t he be allowed? Kivin really, really hoped that the weyrling was just joking but he couldn‘t be sure.
„I‘ve been here in Cerulean a few days longer than Kheron.“ Kivin supplied when asked. „I was searched from the Healer Hall but I grew up in Silver Cove Hold.“ He knew already that Kheron was from Monaco but he didn‘t know where L‘mar was from. After all, Silver Cove had only been established two and a half turn ago. „Where did you grow up L‘mar?“ There. He had asked L‘mar a question. Now he wasn‘t rude anymore.
Kivin smiled at Kheron. “Toll is happy and healty as always and hasn’t forgotten about Yumi either. I think he likes her the most out of all the numerous other firelizards he’s already met. At least he thinks most about her.” And he wasn’t lying either. During their time together Toll constantly showed Kivin pictures of him and various firelizards flying and playing together, but Yumi was the one he showed most often.

Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. Wake up! A cheerful voice resonated in F‘ren‘s head. A too cheerful voice. The weyrling groaned and put his hands over his ears in a useless try to block the sound. F‘renmine, you know you will regret it if you are late. F‘ren rubbed his eyes, late to what? Oh yes, weyrling lessons! He immediately woke fully up and hurried to get dressed. This was the first weyrling lessons for the new weyrlings and he looked forward to meeting the younglings. Finally there would be another bronze weyrling to talk to and of course Ranen and his dragon would be there too. Well no, it wasn‘t Ranen anymore but probably R‘nen.
When he arrived in the Weyr Bowl he looked around to see who were already there. Not many. It seemed that people were still a little tired after last night‘s feast. Shards! It seemed that he was surrounded by greenies. The Weyrlingmaster was of course a greenrider and L‘mar too and then there was a girl that impressed a green yesterday. Why are you complaining F‘renmine? I like greens. They‘re fun. F‘ren shook his head as he approached M‘ma. I like greens too dearest, it was just an observation. He was quick to assure Eneth before stopping before the Weyrlingmaster.
„Good day to you Weyrlingmaster and to you also beautiful Heneth.“ With the necessary greetings over with, F‘ren moved to stand beside L‘mar. „Looking forward to meeting the new weyrlings?"
Hello Dalisth. How are you and Yours doing today? Dalisth was Eneth’s favorite green clutch-sister and he liked talking to her. She was more fun than most other green dragons he’d met and he moved to stand beside her.
--//--
K’vinmine! Heneth is calling us! We are supposed to go to a lesson! Aren’t you excited K’vinmine?! Asileth certainly was excited as she waited impatiently for Hers to wake up. She didn’t have to wait long because Hers was just as excited as her, if not more. K’vin jumped up the moment he heard Asileth and immediately went to hug her. K’vin had been hugging Asileth a lot since he impressed her. He just couldn’t get enough of feeling her warm body against his.
After hugging Asileth for a suitable amount of time, K’vin started searching for appropriate clothes to wear. But what where appropriate clothes for a weyrling lesson? K’vin finally decided on comfortable clothes that were allowed to get dirty but weren’t too shabby and then the excited pair hurried to the Weyr Bowl.
K’vin was relieved to note that he wasn’t late, at least it looked like he wasn’t because so few people were already there. He walked hesitantly towards M’ma, the Weyrlingmaster, to greet him. “Good morning Weyrlingmaster and good morning Heneth,” K’vin said respectfully. “I’m K’vin of green Asileth.” He said in case M'ma didn't know who they were. Then he then stepped away from them and looked around for a place to stand while waiting for the lesson to begin. He recognized L’mar but another boy was talking to him so K’vin went instead to join Lialla. She had impressed yesterday like K’vin and she had also impressed a green but K’vin only smiled a little in greeting and then looked away from her to M’ma, eager for the lesson to begin.
Suddenly there was a flash of brown and Toll had settled on K’vin’s shoulder before he knew it. The brown firelizard wasted no time in scolding K’vin for leaving him behind and K’vin tried to sooth his faithful companion but Toll flew away in a huff to go to Asileth. Guilt gnawed at K’vin, he’d hardly paid any attention to Toll since impressing Asileth yesterday. Toll didn’t deserve that, they’d been together for six years, and K’vin promised himself that he would start to pay more attention to the brown and not focus all of his attention on Asileth.
Asileth for her part, greeted no one but instead stayed close to Hers. Then the small one came and Asileth greeted him enthusiastically. Asileth and the little brown had clicked instantly much to the relief of Theirs and Toll loved to show Asileth images of various dragons and firelizards that he’d already met as much as she loved to see them.

„Eneth is at the moment relaxing on the beach, so yes I would think he should be in good spirits now.“ F‘ren envied his dragon, especially after seeing the beach and the inviting sea through Eneth‘s eyes. Shards, he wanted to be in the sea now. With all those chores and other weyrling stuff, F‘ren was a very busy man. A very busy man who was slowly getting paler from all the time he spent inside. That‘s why dock work was best because then he could be outside and let the sun do it‘s magic while he worked. A lot of his time also went to Eneth and because of this, F‘ren was sorry to say, he had been neglecting his appearance a little over the last few months. Faranth! He hadn‘t even thought lately to maintain his eyebrows. They must be all bushy and disgusting by now. The vain weyrling couldn‘t stop himself from feeling his eyebrows to check if they were as bad as he feared. They were not, but they weren‘t great either. F‘ren cringed every time his finger went over a stray hair, what would Raelwyn think? Rael... F‘ren quickly put his hand down and concentrated on his task, a faint blush adorning his cheeks as he sneakily watched Rael to see if she had noticed something. It would never do if it got out that he tampered with his eyebrows. The teasing would be endless and F‘ren did not like to be teased.
He nodded at Rael‘s explanation of why Tydus was changed until she mentioned L‘mar. He looked startled at Rael. L‘mar had managed to befriend Tydus? In F‘ren‘s experience L‘mar just always seemed to be up to something and that he now had a firelizard ally terrified F‘ren. Who knew what mischief his fellow weyrling could cook up with a firelizard by his side? „Yes, I know him.“ F‘ren said carefully. „He‘s fun.“ And he was fun, especially when he pranked other people but F‘ren always had to be on his toes around L‘mar to be sure that F‘ren wouldn‘t be L‘mar‘s next victim.
Weyrlings busy, hadn’t he just a moment ago been thinking the same thing? Yes, it was safe to say that he understood Raelwyn. He hadn’t practiced his craft in ages. Not that he missed it that much. “Yes I know. I’ve given up weaving myself since I impressed Eneth. But my case is different. I was an average weaver not brilliant like you are as a harper and I didn’t like weaving all that much. But hey, you’re welcome to sing more now. I may be tone-deaf but I love listening.” He was going to talk to Eneth about Rael but found to his chagrin that his dragon had fallen asleep. So much for promises to stay with him. Oh well, it wasn’t that bad. His company was delightful.
While he continued working, he kept sneaking glances at Rael. She was beautiful, her eyes especially, but they were friends now. He knew that if he went there with her there would be no turning back and he would lose her friendship forever. Being attracted to someone physically and liking their personality as well, as F’ren did with Rael, usually meant that if the feeling was mutual a relationship could be started. But F’ren didn’t do relationships and had no desire commit to anyone in the near future. Not even Rael. So he would only hurt her if their relationship went any further than friendship. There had been this pretty friend at Silver Cove and eventually they’d both decided to start an open relationship. Everyone had been happy. Until the girl started wanting F’ren for herself. He had politely told her that no, he wasn’t going to give up other women and no, he didn’t want to have children with her. After that conversation F’ren had ended up with a bruised cheek and a destroyed friendship. Nope, not going to happen again.
